As an entrepreneur, I have been faced with many stressful and challenging situations. In the exterior remodeling industry weather can play a huge factor, and when deadliness need to be met, this can lead to a lot of stress on myself, as well as my team members. One particular instance was when we were working on a home, and it rained three days straight, we were scheduled to have the job completed that Friday, and the homeowner was planning an outdoor event on Sunday and need the job to be complete. This was a higher end customer, who would be having other homeowners, which potentially meant more business so long as we could pull it off. After the second day of rain, I called my team members in to the shop, and we came up with a plan. I assigned three members to go to the home and take measurements, of windows and doors, and other related measurements. They also loaded up whatever material we would require to precut as many pieces as we could. We spent the remainder of that day, as well as Wednesday precutting pieces. I than contacted the home owners of two other job sites, and explained the dilemma I was in, and requested permission to pull my crews off of their projects for two days, explaining that the following Monday I would have an additional crew out to assist with finishing their projects, luckily both homeowners agreed. Thursday morning I sent all three of my crews out, and recruited two additional people from our roofing crew to assist us. I than assigned everyone one side of the house, and we managed to finish the project by mid-day Friday as promised. We spent the remainder of Friday “broom sweeping” the entire yard, so that when we left it was barely visible that it was recently a construction site. Saturday morning, myself and one crew went back to the home to remove the trailers, we also assisted helping the homeowner with setting up for the next day’s event. In the end, I received an excellent review from this homeowner, as well as three additional clients, and a nice bonus.
