Abstract
As society progresses through technological advancements and economical and social change, organizations has to continuously find ways to adapt and overcome changes and obstacles. Leadership within an organization is no different as a leader being able to adapt and be open to continuous learning will enable organization to function to its full potential. Having leaders that are diverse and have skills that they can use to influence others and create productivity has been in the forefront and emotional intelligence is a sort out skill that organizations are looking for within a leader.

When someone has EI they are able to motivate and empower employees to excel not only in job related activities, but also in their personal endeavors as well. Emotional intelligent leaders helps facilitate highly motivated workers. Leadership and motivation are intertwine together, according to Army Doctrine Publications (ADP) 6-22 “Leadership is the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization”. I say this because I currently work in a very culturally diverse organization the U.S Army. Being from a Caribbean country were brought up with different norms and values from my American counterparts and some customs are different. An example I have that I experience is as a junior soldier I wouldn’t look at my supervisor in the eye and some saw that as disrespect until one day my leader pulled me aside and asked me why I do not make eye contact and I stated that it was a form of disrespect and he acknowledged it and informed other leaders about it and it wasn’t viewed as disrespect. Being able to communicate with employee and learn from them makes the team bond stronger and EI assists in doing
