1. Did you have any “ah-ha” moments that you experienced during this course? My Ah-ha moment was learning about the classification of controlled substances. This helped me to understand why doctors are cautious when prescribing medications with a high abuse potential.
2. Which topic/activity did you enjoy the most? I enjoyed learning about the historic events that led to current regulations, I was particularly surprised to learn of patent medicines sold and given to children, such as Mrs. Winslow’s morphine drops (FDA, 2014).
3. Which topic/activity did you find least interesting? I honestly didn’t find any topics least interesting since medicine has always been of interest to me. I did find that the last session covering chemotherapy agents was difficult to learn about for me personally, after losing my father to cancer. More specifically, the devastating effects of cancer medications on body tissues, example: doxorubicin and the effect on surrounding tissues if not administered through a central line (D. Ballington & M. Laughlin, 2013).

If another student asked you for tips for successful completion of this course, what would you tell them? I would advise them to make sure they have time to read the chapter thoroughly, and to set aside time each day to utilize the learning activities. This daily repetition really helps you to understand the material and be successful.
5. How do you envision using the knowledge learned from this course in your personal and/or professional life? I have learned important facts about medications, proper handling and safety protocols that will prevent adverse events with medication. An example is never take doxycycline after it is expired, doing so could cause kidney damage. The knowledge learned from this course will help me both personally and

...happiness and usefulness, and make life a heartsickening burden, as her own husband; and no one can do one hundredth part as much to chill the hopes and aspirations of a man, to paralyze his energies and ruin his influence and prospects, as his own wife. It is from the marriage hour that many men and women date their success or failure in this life, and their hopes of the future life. {AH 43.1} I wish I could make the youth see and feel their danger, especially the danger of making unhappy marriages. {AH 43.2} Marriage is something that will influence and affect your life both in this world and in the world to come. A sincere Christian will not advance his plans in this direction without the knowledge that God approves his course. He will not want to choose for himself, but will feel that God must choose for him. We are not to please ourselves, for Christ pleased not Himself. I would not be understood to mean that anyone is to marry one whom he does not love. This would be sin. But fancy and the emotional nature must not be allowed to lead on to ruin. God requires the whole heart, the supreme affections. {AH 43.3} Make Haste Slowly—Few have correct views of the marriage relation. Many seem to think that it is the attainment of perfect bliss; but if they could know one quarter of the heartaches of men and women that are bound by the marriage vow in chains that they cannot and dare not break,...

...(Dick, p.7) Pivloktoq-like Behavior has less to do with the spirit or unconscious, but more connected with how human body interact with the demand of subsistence activity through seasonal climate change in the Arctic, such as intense work load and interrupted sleep pattern during summers, and in the winter, as Richard G. Condon concludes, “activity rhythms tend to take on free-running characteristics during the dark period as people stay up later in the night and sleep correspondingly later into the day (p.135)”. One of the characteristics of AH that commonly recognized by researchers is “slept for 15 hours after the attack” (Gussow, p.274). While sleep for 15 hours appears abnormal and symptomatic through western lens, the dark...

Mya Angelou: Becoming An Effective Leader

...When you learn, teach- Mya Angelou… Most of my youth and young adult years I spent struggling with accepting the label of leader, or teacher, or even mediator. I imagine two possible reasons why standing in this light is such a challenge. Part of the reason could come from societies dictation that minimizing one's greatness is a desirable sign of humility, especially for women. A more introspective response would say that I was/am simply afraid to accept that I have been gifted with the ability to lead, guide, and nurture others for fear of being misunderstood and rejected. In the past 4 years, I have grown to accept and appreciate my innate ability to relate to and lead diverse groups of individuals in various capacities. When fate and timing...

Ted Talk Research Paper

...If you choose to live your life safe in a bubble, far from ideas which contradict your own and never question your culture you will sacrifice the wonderful realization that in one way or another you are connected to the rest of humanity. One could argue that racism and prejudice stem from hatred and anger but this hypothesis fails to acknowledge that it is impossible to be angry and hateful 24/7. In reality, xenophobia stems from lack of exposure or experience. Culture is a complicated idea especially with immigration and globalization. Many people try to desperately hang onto their culture, fearful that their way of life will be taken away from them. While doing this, they often try to destroy other cultures around them in order to preserve their own. These people fail to realize that cultures are more alike than different. Everyone, everywhere wants to find happiness and love and be free of fear and hurt. Exposure to other cultures...

Aurora's Diary

... Friday Weather: Sunny Today, my boyfriend who loves me for three years, proposed to me. I was so surprised and told him that I was not ready to accept his proposal. I promised that I need one month to consider that. Date: 2520/01/18 Tuesday Weather: Windy Today, we went to the English Bay and learned a tragic story. It was that slightly alone moment in a day when the river had been flown slowly, or the willow leaves which were quietly falling on the surface of the water to out of our vision. A warm cloud was stretching out; some unknown birds were flying and oblique on the horizon, vaguely and quickly. The bench was sitting lonely here and seems to tell us a chilly story. Buskin, who told us this story, was coming from a distant place, partly hidden and partly visible. This should be in a quiet morning. The hospital is located in a valley which is surrounded by lots of mountains. On the west and east side of the mountain, is the luxuriant bamboo forest. Behind the hospital is the vast primeval forest. On both sides of the only road of the valley are flowers and plants in different colors. Flowers of every kind are being in bloom and the fragrance of flowers and plants drunken many people. A girl is sitting quietly beside a boy who is lying on a sickbed. This seems to be a peaceful condition but who sees that girl is looking at him with loathing and disdain? “When will you be ok? I feel so terrible. Oh my goodness… Oh my goodness… I cannot bear it!” Lisa...

Relationships and Race Inequality in Hurston’s “the Gilded Six – Bits, ” “Sweat” and “Magnolia Flower.”

...Zora Neale Hurston wrote her stories about human experiences. In her stories people experience love, hate, forgiveness and betrayal. Her stories also tell of people’s relationships and feelings. Also, she provides her readers on discrimination and racial inequality which were popular at her time. She wrote about these issues from her own experience and her own feelings. “Someone is always at my elbow reminding me that I am the grand-daughter of slaves” (Hurston 762). Besides, some of her stories had happy ending where characters achieved their entire goals and found their way to joy. However, death sometimes takes place in her stories. It is bringing some changes into the characters’ lives. “The Gilded Six-Bits,” “Sweat” and “Magnolia Flower” explores relationships between men and women through racial inequality in Hurston’s time. In “The Gilded Six- Bits”, the author looks at Joe and Missie May’s relationships through race. At that time black people were discriminated against by white people. Majority of the black people were unequal in society. In some parts of the country they didn’t have the right to vote. Langston Hughes says “ In Mississippi the state spends nine times as much for the education of each white child as it does to educate a Negro child, yet the Negro population equals the white, and the wealth of the state is based on the labor of Negroes in the sun of the cotton fields” (Hughes 768). From the beginning of the story, Zora Neale Hurston writes about...

Waiting for Godot

... but also through its language and structure. The structure of dialogue chosen by Beckett, mixes short and concise sentences with meaningful ideas and opinions about the human condition. Although the dialogue appears to be an illogical banter, it would be a mistake to make the assumption that it has no meaning. For instance, throughout the play, Estragon and Vladimir repeat the lines “nothing to be done” and “nothing happens.” Such references along with the cyclical nature of the dialogue, suggest Beckett’s vision that human existence is bleak and that nothing significant ever really happens in our lifetimes, but instead the same situations are repeated throughout life. Beckett’s style revolutionizes the traditional play as he deviates from the orthodox playwright by creating a play with no central plot or storyline. There is no progression of the characters in the play. They simply wait for a man named Godot. Although nothing changes in the lives of the two main characters, Estragon and Vladimir, signs of progression of time are revealed throughout the play. For example, the tree on the set of the play grows leaves between act one and act two, suggesting that some period of time has passed. Furthermore, Beckett’s style...

Analysis of “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston

...Analysis of “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston Western Governors University Humanities C100 July 19, 2015 Analysis of “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston Initial Reaction I suppose my initial reaction to “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston was one of disgust. The story shows “Delia’s” husband “Sykes” to be both physically and psychologically abusive as well as an adulterer. “Sykes” shows no respect for his wife, their marriage or the work she does. “Delia” works every day, and all her hard work pays for their home and puts food on the table. I found this to be most evident in this line “Mah tub of suds is filled yo' belly with vittles more times than yo' hands is filled it. Mah sweat is done paid for this house and Ah reckon Ah kin keep on sweatin' in it" (Hurston, 1926, p. 46). I found it very interesting that “Delia” has stayed with “Sykes” for 15 years despite his abusiveness and apparent failure to provide a stable income for them. I enjoyed that “Delia” finally decided to stand up to her abusive husband. By his initial reaction when “Delia” threatened him with a frying pan, you can see the “Sykes” is nothing but a bully. This is also made apparent by the way the gentlemen in the store were talking about him, even thinking of murdering him, but ceased their bravado when “Sykes” showed up at the store with his girlfriend (Hurston, 1926). Analysis Hurston’s short story was written in 1926 and given the obstacles of African Americans during that time it’s amazing it was...

A Complicated Relationship

...A Complicated Relationship Once, there was a shy girl who likes to play the guitar. Her name is Gelou. She is always alone. She doesn’t have many friends and if she has, she doesn’t hang out much with them. Every time she’s at school, she always sits on the bench, play a song and sing it with harmony. One day when she was walking at the porch, she bumped into a girl. “Where are looking?!” “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention,” she replied. “Oh, I’m sorry, too. My day is just bad. By the way, I’m Kelly,” the girl said. “Hi, Kelly. My name is Gelou. Nice meeting you.” “Okay, got to go. See you around. Bye!” “Bye!” That was the start of their friendship. Every lunch and recess, they will meet up and talk about many things. They talk about a lot of things about academics because Kelly is not the type who will scream for her idol or wear make-up just to be noticed by her crush. She’s kind of boyish. Not like Gelou. But even though they are different, they still got along just fine. Suddenly, some popular boys, which are their classmates, just bumped into them. As expected, Gelou wouldn’t say anything. But Kelly is different. “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” “Oh, miss. We’re sorry,” one of the boys said. “Next time, you guys should look where you’re going,” looks at Gelou “Let’s go!” The next day, Kelly didn’t go to school leaving Gelou alone. For the second time in her life. Again, she was sitting in her favorite bench, playing a smooth song in her...
