...Making it by Faking it Danica Utnage Kaplan University MT203-01: Human Resources Management Professor Sharon Anton July 1, 2012 Education is important; it increases one’s knowledge and opens up opportunities for an individual. However, education by itself is not sufficient, it needs to be applied and acted upon and this is where experience comes in. There are situations where an individual’s academic records show that they are a brilliant scholar, but when the same person is told to apply his education in a real life situation, for example in a job, he is not able to. Experience therefore is important in helping an individual in translation of their knowledge base into development of skills and abilities. A candidate with a good academic background and the relevant skills and abilities is usually a prime and attractive candidate for the employer. Experience complements education; education helps one to build critical and analytical skills while experience helps one to be able to apply these skills in a real working environment. An educational background would be more appropriate for a candidate for a position such as medical coding, nursing, accounting, etc. Whereas having a good track record as a manager or leader would be important if the job was that of a supervisor, being able to lead successfully would be crucial for this position. If I was considering a candidate whose management tract...

...I used to be solely introverted. Though I was content with my behaviour, I always felt that I was missing out. Occurrences as such that have happened include having the praise stolen away from me when I couldn’t share my own answer, or not being chosen for a leadership role. These opportunities were not given to me for being incompetent, I was lacking the confidence and the qualities of an extrovert. In the beginning, I didn’t pursue the change of becoming an extrovert, though the thought of it was in the back of my mind. However, that all changed when I watched a TED Talk video. In this video, the speaker, Amy Cuddy, opened up my eyes, and taught me ways on how to “Faking it until you become it”. She sparked a drive inside of me to follow...

...University of Western Ontario, Canada Abstract With an eye toward research and practice, this article reviews and evaluates main trends that have contributed to the increasing use of personality assessment in personnel selection. Research on the ability of personality to predict job performance is covered, including the Five Factor Model of personality versus narrow personality measures, meta-analyses of personality–criterion relationships, moderator effects, mediator effects, and incremental validity of personality over other selection testing methods. Personality and team performance is also covered. Main trends in contemporary research on the extent to which applicant “faking” of personality tests poses a serious threat are explicated, as are promising approaches for contending with applicant faking such as the “faking warning” and the forced-choice method of personality assessment. Finally, internet-based assessment of personality and computer adaptive personality testing are synopsized. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. Keywords: Personality assessment; Personnel selection; Five factor model; Personality and job performance prediction Personality measures are increasingly being used by managers and human resource professionals to evaluate the suitability of job applicants for positions across many levels in an organization. The growth of this personnel selection practice undoubtedly stems from a series of meta-analytic research studies in the early 1990s in which personality...

...My analytical write up will focus on chapter six, which emphasizes sexual practices. The readings I chose are The Pursuit of Sexual Pleasure, Getting, Giving, Faking, Having: Orgasm and the Performance of Pleasure and The Privilege of Perversities: Race, Class and Education Among Polyamorists and Kinksters. The first two readings are somewhat related and similar, however, the last one is a bit different where it explains research in regards to kinksters and polyamorists. These three readings were the ones that caught my attention off the bat and the reading only enforced that feeling. The first reading, The Pursuit of Sexual Pleasure, educates the audience to sexual activity of all kinds. It begins by giving us a general idea of what is considered sexual pleasure. When I had originally thought of sexual pleasure, I thought of sexual activity between two people, rather than the self-pleasure aspect of it, as is mentioned in the reading. “Sexual pleasure may result from a variety of activities that involve sexual arousal, genital stimulation, and/or orgasm”. Solitary sex involves fantasy and masturbation. Solitary sex is something that I had never realized is considered sexual pleasure. It makes complete sense, however, I just did not link the two. From there, the reading goes on to talk about partnered sexual activity, which includes kissing, touching, oral sex, penis-in-vagina intercourse, and anal sex. These are the activities I usually think of when sexual pleasure is mentioned...

...Love or No Love Katniss and Peeta have shown that they are just “fake loving” each other despite the fact that the do actually show some signs that they love each other, I think the are just faking it. I think that they are faking it because katniss think of Haymitch every time they get romantic, Katniss understands Haymitch's code on food, and if they do like each other they don’t think it equally. Starting off, Katniss has a thought about Haymitch everytime her and Peeta get romantic. This has happened many times, it’s happened at the end of chapter 22 when they start talking personally and katniss explains that Haymitch is saying in her ear “Say it! Say it!” which is happening when Peeta says “Well I don’t have much competition here”...

...Running head: Executives: Making it Big by Faking it Making it Big by Faking it Miki Griffen Kaplan University AB203: Human Resources Management Jessica Marino March 24, 2013 Making it Big by Faking it A 2001 study of 7,000 resumes revealed that nearly 25% of the resumes were fabricated or misleading in reference to their credentials. (www.money-zines.com) This study is just one example of the facts that there are many people who purposely lie to gain employment or attempt to propel their careers by doing so. It is unethical and not fair to professionals that actual go to college and pay for it in an attempt at a better future. When people lie it means that there are less positions out there for the educated personnel that really went to school and invested in their future. Whenever there is a hiring decision that has to be made that requires the candidates to lead others or handle financial responsibilities, it is very important that the applicant’s track record and experience line up and is honestly represented to the hiring organization. It costs any company thousands of dollars to hire new personnel and even though a candidate thinks that they can get ahead by lying about their experience and education. It is quite important in any career field to be honest but in my opinion it is particularly important in the finance field. When a candidate manages or dictates how stock holders and business owners money is managed and...

...I know not what a witch is.” / Hathorne: “How do you know then, if you are not a witch?” / Martha Corey: “If I were, I would know it.” / Hathorne: “Why do you hurt these children?” / Martha Corey: “I do not hurt them! I scorn it!” I think that Hawthorne is doing this, just because he is desperate to find an answer. Hysteria is taking over the way he thinks. It would be stressful to be in the court, and to have everyone looking to you for the answers. He is pushing people that he shouldn’t, just because he wants to find an answer. We also see this in other situations in the courtroom. Parris is hysterical enough, to not believe Mary when she says that she has been faking this whole time. On page 1191, we see him pushing her. Parris: “Prove us how you pretend in the court so many times” / Mary: “I cannot faint now, sir” After this, Parris and the other court members continue pushing Mary to faint, even though she has told them that they had faked it. The judges in this part of the story are wrapped up in hysteria, that they won’t believe Mary, even when she is the only one telling the truth. Hysteria has taken over their judgement, and now they cannot tell truth from a lie. Act 3 of The Crucible, is based on people mixing their judgment with the hysteria in the town. This affects the court, and the decisions they make, the way people are treated, and the lies that are being told. I’m not sure how this story...

...There I am in the middle of a hard classroom floor and my chest hurts my blond hair is flying everywhere and I can't stop laughing… It was a normal school day and I was heading to the last class of my long day. I sat in the spot I always sit in, the brown marble one by my friends Jordan, Isabelle, and, KC. It was health class and our teacher was really laid back so we could laugh and talk. At the beginning of class Jordan had said his chest hurt but no one thought much of it.At about the middle of the class he complained again about a sharp pain in his chest. But know one seemed really concerned that it could be anything. We were looking up some answers in our health book when…. All of a sudden Jordans arms were shaking like...

...They girls would start speaking verbatim in a different language along with other odd behavior. One of the girls said that it started with a bad headache then she did not remember any of the rest. A total of nine girls were affected, people began to suspect witchcraft. “Mass hysteria is often misunderstood as being an illness that sufferers are making up.” This quote says that it is misunderstood as people faking but that is not true. These mass hysterias both are caused by students in two different schools. The first example of mass hysteria is a chain reaction of these girls getting sick one by one similar to the girls in the salem witch trials. The second example the girls start having odd behavior like in the salem witch trials. These problems could of been caued by multiple people faking or augmenting their sicknesses or from an actual sickness. Sometimes there are viruses that breakout and lots of people get sick. Years later when they realized the witch trials were wrong, The town redressed the...

... you must be sure to speak directly to your boss. 4Not to a co-worker or secretary. 5If you talk to a person who doesn’t like you. 6The individual may “forget” to give the boss the message. 7Making you look totally irresponsible. 8Or the person may tell the boss, in a sarcastic tone, “Terry is sick again.” 9Transmitting the message that you are definitely faking. 10Second, being careful not to ruin your excuse by overacting or exaggerating. 11For example, coughing on the phone like a tuberculosis victim or sneezing after every word. 12Also, don’t tell the boss that you have a complicated disease. 13Such as bronchitis combined with pneumonia. 14A simple excuse sounds more truthful, so stick with the flu or a stomach virus. 15The most important technique involved in calling in sick is making sure you don’t get caught. 16You must, for instance, be willing to stay home all day. 17So that a co-worker can’t say, “I tried to reach him, but he doesn’t answer.” 18And never return to work after sick leave with a suntan or a leg you broke while skiing. 19If you follow these tips when you call in sick. 20No one can accuse you of “faking it.” 1.F 6. ...based on fake profiles on Facebook (Peterson, 2013) . New Schulman fall in love with a beautiful young woman’s Facebook picture and her voice over the phone, which turned out to be a middle-aged wife and mother. When asked the reason of her act, she mentioned that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and she felt lonely. Schulman decided to turn the documentary into a show and reveal all online relationship fraud to create awareness on fake identities used on social media. In my opinion, fake identities should not be used on social media because it is a crime offence, it is not an ethical act to perform and much worst it creates unnecessary troubles for teenagers as they are the ones who are extremely active on social media. Faking identity is a serious crime offence in all the countries. Sometime back in 2011, local United States online mail (Stevens, 2011) reported news of a 41-year-old woman who created a fake Facebook profile of her ex-boyfriend who is a narcotics detective. The women posted some personal information, photos and several false posts involving his...

...Malingering is the intentional creation of false or grossly exaggerated physical or psychological symptoms motivated by external incentives. The motivations can include external incentives such as avoiding military duty, avoiding work, obtaining financial compensation, evading criminal prosecution, or obtaining drugs. Malingering is different from lying in that is intended deception about a physical or psychological problem (as opposed to deception about anything else). Obviously, it is possible for an evaluee to both lie and malinger but the two are separate issues to be considered in a criminal forensic evaluation. Whether the information that the evaluee's reported was consistent across the evaluation and with case and file information/collateral information is important to address in a report addressing the issue of reliability or value of self report and other information. It is equally important to address the issue of malingering and whether you believe that the evaluee complaints have any soundness; this should be addressed in addition to, but not completely separate from, the issue of the reliability or value of the information that the evaluee has provided throughout the evaluation. Malingering, like psychopathy, is a global area of concern for any criminal forensic evaluation; that is, the possibility of malingering should always be evaluated in any type of criminal forensic evaluation context. Very little is known about the ways in which the malingerer's operate...

Refer to the movie to illustrate the symptoms that the character demonstrates. • Discuss all the possible symptoms of the disorder; does the client show all the possible symptoms, or only some of the possible symptoms of the disorder? • In some cases, the character may be lying, and does not really have a disorder. For example, the person may be faking the disorder to avoid prosecution for a crime. If you feel that the character does not really have a disorder, what makes you think that the person is lying? What evidence is there that the disorder is not genuine? What do they do well in faking the disorder? o You should summarize any possible origins of the disorder. o Is it likely to be genetic?
