My name is __________________and I am writing this appeal letter in hope that you will reconsider your decision and grant my financial aid for spring semester 2014. I would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to read this letter and consider my request for my financial aid at University______________________.
What caused my grades to be what they were two years ago was that I was very unorganized and irresponsible. After my last semester attending _________ I received full-time work with US Airways as a Ramp Agent and I am still currently working with US Airways. This job allowed me to change into a more structured and organized lifestyle. Two years of manual labor has opened my eyes dramatically that my degree is essential in attaining a great career in todays world. This job has allowed me to obtain a great work ethic and motivation to complete my degree as soon as possible. I understand that I would be denied financial aid for my GPA if that semester just occurred but it has been a minimum of two years ago that this occurred. The distractions I had then I do not have now. I apologize for the lack of attention to my courses the two semesters I attended ________, and I have no one to blame but myself for that mistake. I took complete advantage of the fact that my parents were paying for my education and did not take my courses as seriously as I would if I were paying for them myself. I had no idea what I wanted to major in or what I wanted to do after school. Now that I know what major I want to do and having to pay for my own schooling has made me completely focused not only passing my courses but also doing very well in those courses. The fact that I know what I want to do and know what it will take to get there is what motivates me to get it things done. The semesters I attended I did not efficiently put use of time or resources that

Legal Aid for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. the Role of the Judiciary

...ACCESS TO JUSTICE AND LEGAL AID FOR REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS; WHAT CAN THE JUDICIARY DO? Introduction Asylum seekers, regardless of their immigration status, are human beings, with fundamental and basic rights, needs and aspirations. Refugees and asylum seekers are a diverse group with one thing in common; they are subject to forced migration, and are fleeing from persecution in their countries of origin. A refugee is defined as any person who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality or political opinion, is outside the country of his or her nationality and is unable or owing to such fear for reasons other than personal convenience is unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of that country. Refugee status is therefore adopted for those who, having applied for asylum, have been recognized and given refugee status. It also usually encompasses those who have received ‘exceptional leave to remain’ or ‘indefinite leave to remain’. Recognition of refugee status is also a pre-requisite for other basic rights guaranteed to refugees by international law, such as the right to seek employment, to move freely and to obtain education and healthcare on the same terms as citizens. The status of an Asylum Seeker is reserved for those who have applied for asylum and are awaiting a decision on their applications and those whose applications have been refused. Refugees therefore need legal assistance as soon as they arrive in...

Letters to Birmingham Analysis

...Socrates. His comparison would seem to indicate that he shares an affinity with them. However, the clarity with which he makes his arguments and the dedication to a single premise strikes most strongly of Kant. Just as Kant’s magnum opus, Critique of Pure Reason, attempted to completely upend a previously accepted mode of thought, so also was King’s work devoted to a single objective: the protection of civil disobedience as a form of protest such that the Civil Rights Movement could continue in uncompromised form. Despite this singularity of purpose, the complexity of the situation meant that a more nuanced response to the statement A Call for Unity as published by eight Alabama Clergymen was necessary. In this way, King’s letter in fact served a fourfold purpose: to establish himself as a legitimate authority in the eyes of his audience, to show the trials of the black in America, to justify his cause, and to argue the necessity of immediate action. In Martin Luther King Jr.’s letter, written to the Clergymen from Birmingham Prison, he uses the rhetorical appeal of ethos to establish his credibility on the subject of racial discrimination and injustice. He starts off the letter with “My Dear Fellow Clergymen”. By him saying this, he is putting himself on the same “level” as the clergymen, sending the message that he is no less than them and they are no better than him. He then goes on to say, “I am here because I have organizational ties here. But more basically, I am in Birmingham...

How Are Charities Going to Have to Adapt Their Fundraising Methods in Order to Connect with Young People in the Future?

...How are charities going to have to adapt their fundraising methods in order to connect with young people in the future? Introduction. People over 60 are now more than twice as likely to give to charity as people under 30. Although on average over 60s have more disposable income to give, this is not the only reason for this statistic. This report will investigate not just how much people are giving but more importantly why some under 30s are not giving at all. If many of these 30 year olds are not giving now, what is to say they will when they are 60? Charities are going to have to adapt the way they appeal to the younger generation, through methods such as social media, to prevent the ‘industry’ from falling apart within the next 50 years. There were a number of reasons for this topic being of interest to me: I have been involved in a few sponsored events for charity, and the church I have been brought up in has had regular involvement with the charity world both in London and overseas. I am also interested in the long term in doing some voluntary charity work abroad during a gap year. Is there evidence that something has to be done to engage the younger generation? Between 1980 and 2010 the total share of giving coming from the under-30s fell from 8 per cent in 1980 to 3 per cent in 2010, while the share coming from the over-75s grew from 9 per cent in 1980 to 21 per cent in 2010. This led the ‘Mind the Gap’ report to conclude that ‘The concern is what happens when...

Strong Peso Hurts Food Exports • Price Control Rejected

...Introduction Philippines economy nowadays portraits a good start for, as we are lifting our country from the previous economic situation. Not including the whole world economy, we are experiencing a smaller amount of problems in our economy than the recent. The rate of exchange between our Peso against the Dollar is going stronger from now and as some bank company said that it could reach as high as ₱37.50 in the next year. This is worthy for our country that it could raise the percentage to lessen the financial crisis and issues of our economy here in the Philippines. However, this could also mean that some other Filipinos, who are contributing a lot in our economic growth, will be at an edge of helping themselves to this “firmer peso”. Food producers and exporters alone, from the ₱37.50-to-the-dollar exchange rate could cost them around $30 million to $40 million this year, which are exporter loss around $100 million. This is the case that food exporters and local food producers worrying about the stronger peso against the dollar. They will also lose their competitiveness against the other Asian country that may cause severe unemployment, closures of factories, flooding of cheaper imported goods in the local market and other social problems and unrest. Besides, the appreciation of the peso may harm also the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families, business-process outsourcing (BPOs) firms and foreign investment in general. Improving Recruitment of Non-Traditional Students

...Improving Recruitment of Non-traditional Students Introduction The College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) at Friends University offers working and busy adults an attainable way to earn their bachelor’s degrees. Degrees can be earned through accelerated online and evening classes. Since opening in 1985, it has been the largest and most profitable of the three colleges at Friends University. Despite being the most profitable, CAPS has been impacted by a national trend of declining enrollment and increasing skepticism of the value of a postsecondary education. These two issues combined create a large barrier that is not easy to overcome. The recruitment staff for CAPS needs proven tactics to combat the declining trend and skepticism. This paper will detail the research and findings of proven tactics the CAPS recruitment team can use to combat these issues. Background In the past the post-secondary enrollment forecast has been extremely positive. According to the US Census Bureau, between the years 2000 and 2005, college enrollment grew by 15 percent. From 2005 to 2010, it increased another 20 percent. But the growth has come to a standstill. In 2013 enrollment fell yet again by two percent across the board. Because of the demographics served by CAPS, the decline can be contributed to the decrease in college-age population. This can be contributed to the economic recovery. The adults who lost their jobs during the recession or opted out of the unwelcoming job market...

Doctor Assisted Suicide and Euthanize

...deciding a question of this magnitude it is not up to all of the moral people of the world to try to stop them and impose their belief system upon them. There are more considerations to a question of this nature than just to end the pain and suffering of the person that is requesting to end their life. The financial burden that it would place on all of the people involved with the persons estate, with all of the charges for extended care and medications that we all know that insurance and either Medicare or Medicaid do not cover. There are always co-pays and many other things that are not covered by insurance and it is too soon to be able to know what kind of coverage that the Affordable Care Act will provide the terminally ill patients. It is my opinion that if I were facing such a situation that I would not want to burden my family with all of the expenses of a long illness and would be more than happy to be able to avoid all of the suffering and pain involved in a terminal illness of any type. Living wills are a legal form of choosing weather or not you want to be resuscitated and put on life support in the case of a horrible accident. It seems to me that this is a form of choosing to end your life and not have to exist as a vegetable or suffer the indignity of being paralyzed or in a comatose state. I for one do not just want to live just for the sake of...
