Stimulus control procedures are useful in helping us with problems for example time management in studying. The conditioned behavior has been learned from frequent association. With different stimulus control procedures the behavior can be unlearned and replaced with new responses. The four different stimulus procedures that will be described in reference on how managing time in studying can be attained will be through antecedent-based interventions, cognitive behavior intervention, differential reinforcement, and self-management. These four stimulus control procedures will be described individually based on their contribution towards behavior modification. Antecedent- based interventions is based on environmental modifications to change the conditions in the setting in which the person is engaged in. This stimulus is used to identify the interfering factors requiring reinforcement. “Once the antecedents that trigger problem behavior are identified, several types of interventions can be used. These strategies involve reducing the future occurrence of problem behavior by eliminating the antecedent event, modifying the content or by changing how the content is presented” (The University of Kansas, n.a.). Through praise or some type of reward the behavior is reinforced. A positive reinforcement is periodically give only if the individual completes the desired task in the desired moment. For example, if the individual completes the studying period at the given time indicated by the daily/weekly planner. Only than could the individual proceed to do something of interest as a reward for not only studying during the given time, but for sticking to the daily/weekly planner. The reward would be reinforcing the behavior allowing the individual to find a different means in studying in order to attain the desired
