Study Chapter 14 Real Case, "He’s the Best – or Is He?," found on page 468 of Organizational Behavior (11th Edition) and answer the following questions:
1. In terms of the various leadership styles described in the chapter, how would you describe Steve Wynn?
2. If you were making any suggestions to him regarding how he could improve his leadership style, what would you tell Wynn?
3. Which of the three major skills in Figure 14.6 (in the required text) would be of most value to Wynn?
In terms of the various leadership styles described in the chapter, I would describe Steve Wynn as follows:
- Charismatic Leadership Style:
- Type “Energizing”. He demonstrates personal excitement and confidence, seeking, finding, and using success. -Type “Envisioning”. He creates a picture of the future setting high expectations with which people can identify and that can generate excitement.
- Hersey and Blanchard’s lifecycle approach:
- Participating style. Wynn asks his employees to challenge their supervisors with “planned insubordination” while the followers are on the high side of maturity.
Level 5 leadership:
- Vision. His ideological vision is congruent with the deeply held values of followers.
- Confidence, Determination, and Persistence. He has a high degree of faith in himself and the attainment of his vision.
- Image Builder. He is self-conscious about his own image.
- External presentation. He is the spokesperson for the organization and represents the organization to external constituencies.
- Expectations of and confidence in followers. He communicates high performance expectations to his followers and strong confidence in his followers’ abilities to meet such expectations.
If I have to make some suggestions to him regarding how he could improve his leadership style, I would tell Wynn that he has to modify his sometimes offensive behavior. Some people are

The pro athlete had not gone to far because people need to think about what he's saying, this was the best way to get what he had to say out, and other athletes have brought politics into patriotism before. People think he’s disrespecting the flag before they think about what he's trying to say. The flag is supposed to represent the people who fought for our freedom and rights. Some African Americans are treated differently and don’t have those rights. He’s trying to tell people he doesn’t feel equal, people ignore that and think he’s disrespecting the flag. According to the author, Tim Wendel, “It is our loss if we refuse to listen”. We only think he’s disrespecting the flag but not what he’s doing. If the flag represents our freedom then the people who treat African Americans are the ones really disrespecting the flag. We need to pay attention to what he’s doing and not what other think he’s doing....

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Misfit Essay

...to be young in your failures than old in your successes.” It is alright to fail when an individual is young. The time of youth is about making mistakes and learning and growing from them in order for a person to become the best version of him or herself. Most people pick up from their error and move on in life. Unfortunately that’s not the case for everyone. The Misfit and his pack are on the run from the police while the Grandmother and her family are on a road trip and they make a stop at Red Sammy’s Diner. While there the monkey is picking at his own fur. He’s “catching fleas on himself and biting each one carefully between his teeth as if it were a delicacy” (O’Connor 9). This is foreshadowing the Misfit’s appearance. It displays...

Letter Charlie Dialectical Journal

...Before picking up the book, I was unaware of the fact that the novel is written in letters. The first letter introduces the story’s protagonist, Charlie, and the best way to describe him is over-emotional and sensitive and maybe a little naive. He says that he’s a weird kid and that maybe the reason he’s so shut in and absent in society is because of his best friend, Michael's, suicide in middle school. Charlie says that he’s starting high school at the end of the letter and says that he’s afraid. To me, Charlie is a very relatable character especially considering how I was at the beginning of my Freshman year. In his next letter, Charlie says that he does not like high school. He talks about how different everyone is compared to how...

The House of God Summary

...23 28 Chapter 24 29 Chapter 25 30 Chapter 26 31 Characters 32 Objects/Places 35 Themes 37 Style 39 Quotes 41 Topics for Discussion 43 Plot Summary Roy G. Basch is a new intern in internal medicine at a hospital called the House of God. He begins his internship under the tutelage of the Fat Man, a second year resident who has some crazy ideas as to how to take care of patients. According to the Fat Man, there are two types of patients: the dying young and gomers. Gomers are elderly, demented patients from outside nursing homes who barely qualify as being human and who, the Fat Man says, never die. Only the young are sick enough to die at the House of God. Roy starts his internship fairly scared. He meets his fellow interns, Potts, Hyper Hooper, Chuck, Eat My Dust Eddy and the Runt—all scared and new to internship and patient care. Roy gets assigned duty with Chuck and Potts under the Fat Man on an internal medicine ward. Each takes turns being on call, and he is third in line the first week. Before being on call, he learns of several of the Fat Man's rules like "Gomers never die" and "Gomers go to ground". He learns about the hierarchy of the House of God—from private doctors down to the lowly intern. He learns about "buffing" charts so they make the patient and the doctor look good and about "turfing" patients—sending them...

Abin believes that MacDonald may do it to get into the head of the other teams batter. “ He likes to get a competitive edge on his competition, he likes to get under the others team skin,” said Abin. If that is the case MacDonald is doing a good job at that. “ There was one game where Kev was missing on his pitches and was constantly having conversations with himself. One of...

Political Leaders In Julius Caesar Essay

...William Shakespeare, you are easily able to identify the theme of ‘political leaders usually act in the best interest of their country’ on several occasions. Shakespeare portrays this theme not only in the character Julius Caesar, but also in Marcus Brutus and Mark Antony. Although neither of them weren’t ever actually in charge of Rome, they still represent the theme well by doing what they truly believe is for the best. First, I will go into detail about how Brutus depicted the theme by leading the conspirators to do what he felt was the right thing to do. Then, I will continue on and explain how Caesar acted in the best interest of his country simply by trying to do his job. Finally, I will go further into how, even after Caesar was murdered, he still tried doing good by Rome, and...

...When Friendship Turns to Love I didn't want to depart my home town, which I've been settling ever since the day I was born. Neither do I want to leave my school, relatives, and most importantly my best friend Samuel. Sam and I had been best friends since elementary school. I still recall the day when we first met; it was the first day of grade 1 and we were in the same class. Unintentionally I collided with his head trying to reach for my pencil that had been knocked out on the floor. Fortunately I didn’t know that he was trying to reach for it too. From that time on we got close, share lunch, talk and became best friends. We’d hang around together as often as I’d hang around with my family. He’s like my brother; a brother who I could lean to when I have problems, a brother who’s always there for me when I’m in trouble, a brother who loved me for me… at least as a sister. What he didn’t know is that I am deeply in love with him ever since the day we first met; which saddens me the most, assuming that he only thinks of me as his sister. In sixth grade, in spite of this, things changed. We had been together for 5 implausible years, but this year is diverse. I was moving. Moving far away from him, it’s like a new world I’m getting myself into. My deep profoundness love for him is still there and I don’t want to leave him. We agreed to call each other at least twice a week, send letters and emails if we have time, and stay in touch with each other. Except that, it wouldn’t be the...

English Essay

...of the text, is talking on the behalf of the country in the speech. His purpose with the speech is to encourage the young people to take an education and to be responsible for themselves and the country. His intention is also to persuade the young ones to give priority to education, by being a role model to them. He identifies with the young ones by telling about how it was through his own education and about all the good and bad things about it. The youngsters need to encourage themselves, because their parents and teachers are only a part of it, and the students need to do the main part themselves. Obama addresses the audience, the youngsters, by using a lot of examples from his own life, or from other people, who has achieved their goals and a good education, in spite of challenges in their life and no support from their surroundings: “Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.” Obama didn’t have a good and comfortable childhood. And it wasn’t easy for him to get an education and become the president of the USA. Fortunately, he got a lot of chances, which...
