The Truth behind the Healthy American Lifestyle
America is a country known for its major industrialization over the decades but it’s also known for its major Fast food chains. As a result of our nation is changing their food morals, especially within our society. The American diet is a concern that arises. Although fast food is convenient for the busy lives of Americans, our society is ultimately worse off due to how fast food promotes unhealthy eating choices. Industrialization enhances the American identity while fast food regresses it.

For starters, people are constantly consuming fast food without any hesitation on what they're putting into their bodies. Since eating fast food more often can increase your risk of future health problems. …show more content…
Over the years, Fast food restaurants have been attempting to adapt to their consumers’ needs; proving how fast food restaurants are willing to change under pressure. Regardless of the Fast food restaurant, they have been trying to improve their ingredients by: adjusting to society’s demands; this doesn’t make these restaurants necessarily healthier. Wilson, the author of an online article “Birth of fast food” is explaining how, “The fast food industry has responded to these trends by offering a few healthier options, like salads, yogurts, and fruit. A number of chains, including Chipotle, bought local ingredients and humanely-raised meat. Salad chains like Chop’t, Tossed, and Saladworks have sought to appeal to health-conscious customers” (28). This is proving how not all fast food restaurants are filled bodily toxins like carbs, fat, and etc. Roman Espejo author of the book: “Fast Food,”offers the controversies behind these chain restaurants. He stated, “I like to call it “nutriwashing.” As the food industry finds itself increasingly under attack for promoting unhealthy foods, one of its major defense strategies is to improve, or to promise to improve, the nutritional content of its food” (Espejo 29). Espejo is exemplifying how fast food companies are trying to trick people into thinking that fast food restaurants are becoming healthier when in reality they’re are only …show more content…
Teens and children were a prime example. This is due to the fact that young adolescents/teens are often times doing an activity that would want instant gratification of fast food. This demographic is on the computer, watching TV, or on other forms of technology. The downfall to the leniency towards unhealthy options in the article Birth of fast food states,“ Fast Food is easy, cheap, high in calories, and marketed to the groups in society most subject to peer pressure- children, teens, young men, particularly from minority groups and low income groups, say Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition” (Wilson 22). Sadly, this quote is the harsh reality in society. On children TV channels like: “Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, or the Disney network” advertise at least one type of fast food restaurants aiming particularly at children. Espejo gave an analysis report on fast food advertisements found on websites targeting adolescents, “The advertising coalition reports that $10 billion is spent annually on food advertising targeting children… In a three-month monitoring project, over 12 million children visited websites promoting food and beverage products” (Espejo 25). Proving how America is unaware the effects of unhealthy foods towards the younger

U01A2 Health Care Management Problem in America

...Introduction The saying health is wealth has different meanings. It could mean that healthy people have less medical expenses or that people treasure good health more than money. The goal of a healthy lifestyle is to have a long life and remain disease or cancer free. The United States of America is known as a developed nation and people would assume that it provides its citizens with equal and an adequate medical care. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “America spent more on health care per capita ($8,608) and more on health care as a percentage of its GDP (17.2%), than any other nation in 2011.” This means that the US puts a lot of emphasis on their healthcare compared to any other country in the world. But the reality is the Commonwealth Fund, a private American foundation, ranked the United States of America last in the quality of healthcare compared to the world in 2014. Also, America is ranked as one of the most expensive healthcare providers in the world. The US was compared to countries like Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland. The rankings prove that the American healthcare system is indeed facing many issues. Some of the major issues are accessibility of healthcare to all, lack of consolidation within the industry, deficiency in technology, lack of data availability and lastly, over dependence on medications by healthcare professionals such as doctors. The issue highlighted in this...

The term “couch potato” is also known as a sedentary lifestyle. In my essay, I will discuss the negative impacts of having a sedentary lifestyle has on our society. A sedentary lifestyle is a way of living in which a person, an adult or child, has a significant lack of physical exercise for what is generally considered to have a healthy lifestyle. The term is normally used by doctors or professionals within the medical field to explain a lifestyle among many people in highly developed countries that does not afford them opportunities for physical activity. Technology such as television, video games, and computer use is partly to blame for this way of life. Other reasons surrounding this lifestyle can be contributed to inactive living with such high demands for the work force and just being lazy. As much as technology has developed and contributed to the further advancement of the world, it has also been a curse when it comes to a sedentary lifestyle. Emotional factors such as depression can have a lot to do with sedentary lifestyle. “A study of physical activity in more than 7,000 teenagers found that inactivity is associated with emotional and behavioral problems. Diabetes

...Diabetes Among African Americans Diabetes has been affecting the African American community in the United States for a long time. Diabetes is a disease that occurs in people by altering the body’s metabolic process in producing insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is produced in the pancreas which regulates the amount of sugar in our blood stream, and in turn becomes energy. There are two types of diabetes: type 1diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Type 1diabetes, which usually begins during childhood or adolescence, is a condition characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by lack of insulin (American Diabetes Association). This occurs when the body's immune system attacks the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas and destroys them. Type 2 diabetes which is the most common form of the disease, usually occurs in middle aged adults after the age of forty-five (American Diabetes Association). It’s a condition characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by either lack of insulin or the body's inability to use insulin efficiently. Forty percent of African American boys and forty nine percent of girls will develop diabetes during their lifetimes and therefore face the possibility of severe diabetes-related complications and a life span that is reduced by 4 to 23 years (Institute for Alternative Futures). In 2010, there were 5,547,700 African Americans in the United States with diabetes. African Americans have at least twice the risk of amputations, renal failure, and...

Sustenance and Health

...fashion American bacon! I know what you’re thinking right now; sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, the fact of the matter is that none of these foods are good for you. So, why am I talking about these foods? Sustenance and Health in America have been key topics in culture for many years. Many people are still finding it hard to lead long, healthy lives. What can people do to achieve these goals? The answer is relatively simple actually; improve your overall health and the quality of the food you consume. I’d like to talk to you about just that; overall wellness and food and drink consumption. 2. Wellness in America has been overlooked by many people for many years now. Wellness is defined as the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind.1 It’s also an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.1 That’s right! Wellness isn’t just about eating healthy and exercising, it’s also about preventing sickness and living a healthy life without relying on prescribed medications for unhealthy symptoms. The idea behind this concept is that most illnesses can be cured by being healthy versus the use of medications. According to James Strohecker, a pioneer in e-health and president of HealthWorld Online, America’s wellness culture has two faces. One that focuses on health through medication and the other that focuses on health through healthy living.2 Does one attempt to get healthy by taking...

What Made Fast Food so Popular

...What Made Fast Food So Popular In the old days people used to eat healthy home cooked meals together as a family. However things have changed, today we can see that people prefer to eat outside their home and order from fast food restaurants, and this is due to the huge increase in popularity of fast food restaurants. Today people try to save as much time as possible due to the necessity to cope with numerous tasks within a limited amount of time. In the majority of cases modern people have busy work schedules and don’t have enough time to cook a meal. The fast food industry is more popular than ever but is it because fast food restaurants made themselves popular? The American lifestyle has changed and these changes have caused the fast food industry to grow in popularity because of its convenience, it’s inexpensive and the need to eat healthy is not a priority. One of the main reasons why fast food restaurants happen to be so popular is the change in life-style. The American lifestyle has changed greatly over the last few decades, people have demanding work schedules with long hours, children come late from school so parents are left with very little time to think about what to make for dinner. It is difficult for them to divide their time between their job and their responsibilities at home like cooking or finding time to prepare their food. This is why they rather go outside to eat instead of spending time on preparing a meal. Now many families have two household...

Perausive Message

...Persuasive Message Anthony Comeaux Comm/470 Communicating In the Virtual Workplace July 12, 2013 William Curci Persuasive Message When creating a persuasive message the writer must plan the message first, know what the purpose of the message, and be very clear to the audience. According to University of Phoenix “Writing Persuasively on Paper and in Electronic Formats” A persuasive message can be in the form of a letter, an e-mail, a memo, a proposal, an advertisement, or a presentation (Roebuck, Mckenney, 2006, para. 1). Depending on the person receiving the message it can be interpreted in different ways and might need to be analyzed. Therefore, the writer must establish a rapport with the reader by convincing him and omitting common mistakes when writing the message. A great strategy to use when writing persuasively is the indirect approach that helps to get the main point across by grabbing the reader’s attention. By following certain rules and steps will help the writer to compose a successful persuasive message. Following theses certain steps; deciding what topic will be discussed which may be even something the reader may disagree on. Fad Diets

...Fad Diets versus Healthy Life Style Changes Valerie Heintz Fad Diets versus Healthy Life Style Changes A commitment to a lifestyle change is needed to become healthy. The following essay will help give you a better understanding of why fad diets are not the answer for becoming healthy. Most fad diets and healthy lifestyle changes are both based on reducing the number calories that you take in every day. Unlike healthy lifestyle changes fad diets usually recommend severely reducing the number of calories below the recommend daily amount. According to the Medical New Today website http://www.medicalnewstoday.com, the average adult male should consume approximately 2,500 calories a day to maintain his weight and 2,000 calories for an average adult female. These numbers can change depending on age, gender and the amount of physical activity a person performs daily. In the past I have gone on several fad diets that were asking you to reduce your calorie intake to as low as 600 calories a day, way below the recommended amount. Yes you will reduce your weight quickly, but you will also be losing muscle tone as well and as soon as you increase your calorie intake the weight will come back on. Some fad diets have you eliminate certain foods from your diets. For instance the South Beach diet wants you to eliminate certain fruits like pineapples, watermelon, and raisins because they are higher in sugar. On the Medifast Diet they are asking you to eat 5 of their Medifast products...
