Career Paper: History Teacher For my career project I choose Historian, which can be categorized as a History teacher or professor. History is the ideal career for me, due to the passion I have for it. As an individual I see myself as more open to working cooperatively, I find it difficult to work in solitude. Teaching is the perfect career for my personality; I value knowledge and consider myself an exemplary student. This career was one of the choices from my personality survey, It suits my style of working and the type of environment I most comfortable with. History is my favorite subject in school, so perhaps my passion in it can lead me to a prosperous career.

Historians and or History teachers have one common goal, to spread the knowledge of the past, and make people understand the importance of history and how it connects to our world and our life’s. History can range from teaching World History, European History, Art History , and any other study that involves the analysis of the past. The process of historical analysis involves investigation and analysis of controversial ideas, facts to create coherent narratives and theories that explain "what happened" and "why or how it happened". Modern historical analysis usually specifies on social sciences, including economics, sociology, politics, psychology, anthropology, philosophy and linguistics. There are some historians that are guides in museums, this takes great knowledge and memorable facts to appeal to the visitors. History teachers usually teach in classrooms, starting as young as 5th grade to Highschoool, and perhaps even college (If you meet the requirements).
To become a history teacher/historian one most have at least a masters degree, although it doesn’t necessarily require “On The Job” training, you’re more likely to be accepted by the job if you do. Historians must have extent knowledge of the criteria. They must be able to research, analyze, record, and interpret the past as recorded in sources, such as government and institutional records, newspapers and other periodicals, photographs, interviews and or films.
The median annual wage of historians was $53,520 in May 2010, but due to economic instability, that number is predicted to decrease. There are different salaries depending on the source of the employment, for instance if the job is categorized as part of the federal executive branch than the pay is 84,860, annually. If the job is part of Professional, scientific, and technical services then the pay is 55,410. If the employment is part of the state government the salary is 49,990, where as if it is part of local government it has a pay of 30,950 significantly smaller.
By the year 2010, there employment rate of a historian in the United States was approximately 4,000. It has been predicted that by the year 2020 the employment rate will increase to 4,700. Federal, state, and local governments, which employ 57 percent of all historians, are expected to experience a decrease in employment, which will ultimately lead to a limited number of historian positions. Historians are recommended to seek jobs outside of government, such as in historical societies, research organizations, and or historical consulting firms. However, many types of organizations that employ historians depend on donations or public funding, so employment growth from 2010 to 2020 will depend largely on the amount of funding available. There are many jobs similar to Historians, or that somehow involve the skills and knowledge of Historians. Anthropologists, Curators, Geographers, Sociologists, and many more alternatives. Anthropologists are archeologists study the origin, development, and behavior of human beings, past and present. Curators manage collections, such as artwork and historical items. Geography goes hand in hand with History, Geographers study the earth and its land, features, and inhabitants. Sociologists study society and social behavior by examining the groups, cultures, organizations, social institutions, and processes that people develop. For more information in the field of History, I can consult The National Council On Public History. In conclusion Historian is a very profitable choice in a career, It has an average salary of $53,520 per year and $25.73 per hour. Historians/History teacher requires a Masters degree. Historians do not perform heart transplants, design magnificent edifices, or solve mathematical expressions, but Historians still play an important role in society. The effects of history are more difficult to define than those of engineering or medicine. History is in fact very useful, actually indispensable, but the product of historical study is less tangible than any other subject. History should be studied because it is essential to individuals and to society, and because it harbors beauty. How can we evaluate war if the nation is at peace—unless we use historical materials? How can we understand genius, the influence of technological innovation, or the role that beliefs play in shaping our life, if we don't use what we know about the past, we learn from the past from all the mistakes our ancestors made. This career is exactly what I search for, the aspect of investigation, developing theories, explaining the past, It’s all what categorizes me.

Nursing Timeline of Historical Events

...The knowledge of the foundations and history of nursing has provided great enhancement in the role of a nurse. I read the “Nursing History Timeline” and found out how much Florence Nightingale, Walter Whitman, Dorthea Dix and Harriet Dame made an enormous impact on the nursing practice. I wish everyone who chooses nursing as a career embraces their patient advocacy and compassion for others. The first trend in the “Nursing Timeline of Historical Events” was the quality of care. In the beginning of nursing prior to the 1800’s very little attention was given to the quality of care provided to patients. Most of the nursing care was provided by men of religious orders and currently the nursing profession is employed by women. Today we strive to provide the best quality of care to our patients as a whole. I feel it’s not the quantity of care given it’s the quality that makes the patients feel they have been given the best care possible. The second trend is “Modern Nursing” early on in the Crimean War a nursing job was considered “undesirable”. “A nursing job was given to the immoral, the alcoholic and the illiterate”. These days a registered nurse is one of the most desired jobs for men and women. I feel very honored to be a nurse and very lucky to have a college degree. Society has made nursing a reputable and educated career choice and highly desirable. The third trend is technology and how it has tremendously evolved and become so complex. The timeline shows many things...

The Catholic Church, a powerful institution in its own right, with the dedicated word of European missionaries, the growth of the religion led to the conversion of much of the indigenous populations in the Americas. The missionaries built missions and had haciendas that created environments in which the Catholic religion was a fundamental incorporation of life, so as to convert the indigenous population. The missionaries also built schools and universities to educate the Spanish colonials. The University of Mexico was one of the first universities in colonial Mexico and provided the education needed to be a physician, a lawyer, and any other career that required a degree in colonial times. Only men were allowed to attend universities in this time period and religion definitely played an integral part in the education of the male...

Career Counseling

...Career Counseling Term Paper [SCHOOL NAME HERE] [YOUR NAME HERE] [DATE HERE] Person-in-Environment The person-in-environment theory concentrates on the situation one may find him or herself in over the course of one’s life. For example, various life stages may include preparing to graduate from high school, going into college, graduating from college, getting married, buying a home, having children, and so forth. These various situations impact the person in different ways. Also, the social context in which the person experiences these stages is also relevant. For example, if a person is entering college and is seeking employment in an area in which other people of the same age are not seeking higher education, there will be some conflicting priorities, needs and abilities that the person will encounter and have to cope with. Another term used to describe the person-in-environment theory is “ecological system” (Zunker, 2012, pg. 57). While this term is more commonly used when talking about flora and fauna in the wild, it is very applicable to career counseling as well. The career world is often congruent to that of the animal kingdom. There are hierarchies, competition for resources, and inevitably someone thrives and someone fails. By focusing on this corresponding model as an analogy to how one’s career may evolve over time and through various obstacles, a career counselor can help a person to focus on external issues and how to best handle them. This is...

Rizal

...about the university career he would follow as the school year 1877-1878 is nearing. Different authors of Rizal give different answers on what and who influenced Rizal in opting what course to take. It is the question of who made the final choice, he himself, his mother, his father, his brother or the Jesuits. Rizal tells us that his mother was worried about him pursuing a university career in Manila because of her ingenuity, or possibly her motherly instinct. His mother Teodora feared that Rizal would come to a bad end just as the fate of ilustrados before like Father Burgos. Buthe does not say in memorias de un estudiante, he did not specify what her mother preferred for him. His brother Paciano discouraged him from taking law, because of the belief that Rizal would not be able to practice that profession due to the political conditions that time. In his memorias de un estudiante, he recalls: “I enrolled in Metaphysics because, aside From the fact that I had doubts about the career I should follow, my father wanted me to study it (Metaphysics).”  Very likely, Don Francisco had pictured Rizal having a career in Civil Law. And due to this, Don Francisco advised Rizal to take up the preparatory course of “Metaphysics.” (Rizal terms the philosophical subjects he’s taking up then as “Metaphysics.”) But in the University of Santo Tomas that time, there was no such thing as a career of Metaphysics, neither a Faculty called “Philosophy and Letters.” The career of “Philosophy” was...

...Recently I have been using CFNC.org to gather more information about myself. Also what career I would be the best at and the careers I wouldn’t do so well in. CFNC.org gave me multiple choices to choose from. So I went through some choices like Finance and Law and public safety because those were my top two career clusters. I finally choose to do Law and public safety as a career. Based on my results CFNC.org told me that I shouldn’t do anything with agriculture, food and natural resources. But if Law and public safety doesn’t work then I should try finance. I have many options to choose from. I took a basic skills survey to see what skills I need to improve on and what skills I am the best at. Learning strategies is my highest skill. With reading comprehension coming in as a close second. My lowest result is monitoring and active learning. I now know which skills need improvement thanks to the basic skills survey....

Organizational Structure: Nordstrom

...Organizational Structure MGT/230 October 8, 2012 Organizational Structure Nordstrom Incorporated has a history that dates back to 1901, when John W. Nordstrom and Carl Wallin joined forces and opened the first Wallin & Nordstrom, Inc. They opened their first shoe store in downtown Seattle, Washington, and found that they needed to look for new and innovative ways for their company’s growth. They ventured into the clothing market and started selling fine apparel and added men’s clothing and children’s wear to expand the needs of their customers. In 1971 they went public, and the company was recognized as the largest-volume West Coast fashion specialty store, and the company name was formally changed to Nordstrom, Inc. From the beginning, John Nordstrom shared a business philosophy that was exceptional service, selection, quality, and value. Today the philosophy remains the same (“Nordstrom.com,” n.d.). The vertical structure is very apparent in the Nordstrom, Inc. organization. The company has key executives, board members, and executive key committees that run the organization. According to Bateman & Snell, (2011), corporate governance is a role of the corporation’s executive staff and board of directors in ensuring that the organizations activities meet the goals of the stakeholders. The board of directors’ selects, advises, and oversees management and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company. Although Nordstrom, Inc. is a vertical organization...

Even though Sans Serif fonts are more popular for resume, Yahoo has chosen Helvetica as the best font to use for your resumé. * Times New Roman is actually a little hard to read on a screen for many people. Instead of changing between fonts, try making specific sections bold or italicized instead. * The font for your header and the introduction to a section may be a size 14 or 16, but otherwise you should not use a very large font. * Your text should always be printed in solid black ink. Make sure to deactivate any hyperlinks (like to your email) so that they don’t print in blue or another contrasting color. * Image titled Make a Resume Step 2 2*Set up the page.* Your page should have one inch margins all the way around with 1.5 or 2 point line spacing. Career Preference of High School Students

...would not be put at risk. Preference is the act of preferring, choosing, or favoring one above other. One example of this is choosing what career path to be taken in College. But it is not simply choosing, there are some factors associated why people choose one above other. A student might choose Engineering because he is good at Mathematics or Accountancy because it is an in-demand course. This proves that choosing a career path is an important decision that will make in determining future plans because this decision will impact throughout ones lives. Usually, this occurs in the midst of fourth year in high school of the students. For them to be able to go onto higher level, they are sought to choose a career path among many options. Locus of Control

...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1. BACKGROUND OF STUDY Generally, researchers have investigated issues relating to aspects of career choice by teenagers (Breakwell, 1988; Dick & Rallis, 1991; Jawitz, 2000; Woolnough, 1994). Southwick (2000), for example: observes the trend toward a decline in graduate enrolments in health-related fields, as well as science and engineering, having recorded enrolment decline from 1993-1997, after four decades of annual increases. A continuing decline of admissions in these areas may lead to a shortage of skilled health and science workers and this could ultimately hurt the society. Palmer (2005) also observes the reduction in the numbers and calibre of students seeking admissions into engineering education in Australia. Poor image of the engineering profession generally and the poor understanding of engineering in schools were identified as contributing reasons for this situation. In Nigeria, many youths make wrong career choices due to ignorance, inexperience, peer pressure, advice from friends, parents and teachers, or as a result of the prestige attached to certain jobs without adequate vocational guidance and career counseling (Salami, 1999). Consequently, many of them are unsuited for their careers, as they usually find themselves in jobs that do not satisfy their value needs. When this occurs, they constitute nuisance to themselves and their employers. They are usually unable to contribute meaningfully to the society, and they ultimately...
