Michael’s Basic Information and Relationships Michael is a single 45 year old male with no children and he is a practicing attorney. He volunteers for a youth mentoring program for male youths. He is currently dating Tina, whom he is considering marrying. Tina has three adult children. He seems to be unable to confront Tina about whether or not she loves him and would accept an offer of engagement. Michael is 200 pounds overweight, eats high-fat and high calorie foods, and is currently on high blood pressure medication. His recent visit to his physician has encouraged slight and immediate changes to his diet. Michael has no desire to go to the gym or to exercise. He goes at least twice a year with a group of other physicians to Zambia to provide medical care and much needed medical supplies for the Zambian people. HIV is very prevalent in Zambia and most of the people there are infected. While in Zambia, Dr. Marshall decides to go sightseeing and while out he collapses due to dehydration and suffers a significant laceration on his arm. A woman comes to his aid and because Dr. Marshall was so worried about his injury, he fails to notice that this woman is HIV positive and has wounds on her arms that are oozing and she helps Dr. Marshall with his open wound. After returning to where his fellow physicians are, he decides to confide in his friend Dr. Singh, he tells him that he is afraid he may have been exposed to HIV because of the woman who help clean up his wound. Women who were raised with a lack of paternal authority can often face significant setbacks when dealing with everyday life issues. Promiscuity as a self-destructive behavior has substantial consequences often resulting in mental and physical suffering. This qualitative single case study was designed to explore the correlation of promiscuity- as a self-destructive behavior with women who were raised in single-mother households where there was a lack of paternal authority. A single intrinsic case study was used to explore one woman’s battle with promiscuity. The data obtained formed a narrative generated by the triangulation of psychoanalytical therapy sessions, a client intake form and the woman’s journal. A case analysis was performed and later reviewed by an attending mental health clinician. The results indicated the woman manifests the self-destructive behavior of promiscuity at the expense of poor self-esteem which directly correlates with a lack of paternal authority. The disruption of the woman’s psychosexual development in childhood negatively altered her self-image.
