Some would say that I’ve had a “picture perfect childhood.” I have never lost a close loved one, seen someone go through a hard time, gone through one myself, had a family accident, or had some big traumatic thing happen. For the most part I was a privileged child who got to do a lot of things most kids couldn’t. It’s hard for me to console people when something bad happens to them because I just don’t know what to tell them because I have never been through something like this. Instead I am going to tell how a happy thing had impacted my life in a very positive way and helped me understand what kinds of people go through these things everyday. How MASC student council changed my outlook on life.

Towards the end of the week, we write letters to everyone in our council. I waited till I got home to read them. A few specific ones stuck out to me. One letter was from a girl named Jillian. I’ll be straight up, she was a little weird. I judged her at first and I won’t deny it. Once I started talking to her more I realized she was one of the nicest people ever. I couldn’t get enough of her positive attitude. She did not care at all what others thought of her and I aspired to be able to do that. She started out her letter with “You my friend, are something special. I hope that one day you become aware of that fact.” I don’t know why I just couldn’t let go of it. It might have been something she put on all the letters but even through the letter, it felt so sincere. That will always be with me and inspire me to really be something. Even if other people can’t understand why they were so special, I’ll always have the special
