I Was Only Three

But I Was Only Three Mommy and daddy, two people who you think would be in life forever. Well, not in my case. When i was just three years old my dad passed away in a tragic car accident. My “so-called” forever turned into a never in a matter of seconds. Did you know that losing one’s father during childhood was linked to a 50% greater risk of premature death? Its true, but does that mean in going to death early because of the experience of my father? I was left with so many question my mother wouldn't talk about. Where was he originally from? Did he attend college? What were his goals in life? What was he doing at ten o’ clock at night when he got into that terrible car accident? Why wasn't he coming home from church with us? As the years go by, i realize that a life without a father has created an empty hole in my heart. The only memories that remain of my father are the ones from the night he died and his funeral. The night my father passed away was a big blur, but I have gathered up the main events. I clearly remember the ride home from church and how my mother and I were able to see the car accident that occurred at the corner of where I lived in Miami. We both wondered what had happened and were puzzled as we pulled in our driveway as our neighbors were going insane. My short memories allows me to confirm the fact that I was stuck in the car with my neighbors’ daughter as I was screaming and yelling at her to let me go see want happened. My memory of that night ends there. The day of the funeral I remember innocently asking my mother why my daddy was wearing red lipstick. I failed to ask her if he was coming back, why he was sleeping in a box, and if he would ever wake up. She quietly whispered to me that he was wearing red lipstick because he had to look pretty as he presented himself to God. I slowly started to understand that my father had died. Growing up without a dad has been beyond a difficult task. From birthdays, to music recitals I only counted on my mom. Being a widowed parent was hard as she was forced to work more then one job in order to financially support us. My worst memories consist of music recitals, dance recitals, and school plays. I would always search the audience to find my mom, but rarely was she able to come because of her work. I envied those girls that were greeted by both of their parents with a dozen roses. What was wrong with me? Why did I have to lose my father? But I was only three I thought. I wasn't able to live a normal life without a father by my side. I didn't grow up with a male influence in my life. Throughout middle school, I just forgot about who i once called daddy. Living life as a six-teen year old in high school without a dad is still just as difficult. There isn't one day that goes by that I don't think about my father. I daydream about what my life would be like, where I would live, if I would be dating my boyfriend, or even if I would have the same friends. Thinking about my father makes me want to have him here with me even more, but then I realize that he is in a better place. The thought of knowing he is actually right there beside me looking over my soothes my pain, and that when I don't think i have anyone, he is right there. Its still hard for me when my friends have their dads and they are playing around with them, asking them for advice and having one more parent to count on. God received one more angel October third of the year two-thousand and one. I still have that piece carved out of my heart that belongs to the most important man of my life. I certainly wish I could have known my father for much longer. But has the years go by, and i keep growing older, I just hold on the picture of him in my wallet. I know he would have been proud of me for all of the accomplishments I have made. Although he died when I was just three short years old, I continue to keep him in my heart, my thoughts, and my dreams. I aspire to be just like my father when I am older and make him proud of the women I will become. As I keep turning pages in my life, I continue to have more questions about the person i would be with him. My mother isn't open to talking much about him, but I will continue to wonder and learn small bits and pieces about him anyway I can. I was only three, yes I know, and the fact that he died has left a hole him my heart, but without him, I still continue to be someone he would be proud of.

Bloody Neighbors

...Stupid neighbors garden, I thought, they just had to make the fence that low. Me, Julia, and David were playing football in the back yard when the ball accidently went to the Frost’s yard. They’d always creep me out, especially David; he was there only child and practically the creepiest kid on the planet. This time the ball didn’t land in there back yard, further more it landed inside there house, only crazy people like them have a big hole in there rooftop and that’s exactly where it landed, bulls eyes. The three of us never dared to step an inch close to the house this time, we were dared by David; and therefor I’ve never lost a bet in my life. The three of us took longer steps in deeper fear as we got closer to the house. As John Drew Maxi, I took a deep breath knowingly that this might as well be the last day of my life. As my foot reached the ground I heard the echo on the steps. I nocked three times on the door but there was no answer, the three of us held hands in alarm. The Door slowly opened like they do in horror movies, there was no one there. But I wasn’t as stupid as the guys in movies who are like “ hey, is anyone there” its not like the bad guys is going to be like “Hey man I’m in the chicken wanna sandwich?” that’s only what they do in movies, but unfortunately this was reality. Taking several deep breaths and the fear anguished inside us. Taking the first step in was the hardest ,scariest and most defiantly the riskiest. After the three of us took a few steps...

Myfitnesspal Reflection Paper

...On November 8th I embarked on my nutrition analysis using Supertracker and, originally, an excel sheet that I started logging my food intake on; however, it only had two spots designated for calories and fats, so I asked around and discovered MyFitnessPal. I ended up choosing Supertracker and MyFitnessPal as my mediums for this assignment, and overall was impressed by how easy they were to navigate. To begin, both sites offered great information on food intake, but the biggest difference between the two was that MyFitnessPal actually registered every food I entered; whereas with Supertracker I had to use a food similar to the one I was eating, but not quite the same food I had actually ingested. MyFitnessPal had the foods, brands, and the labels set up to where I just had to specify how much of it I ate. Overall, I would say that MyFitnessPal was the most accurate source of the two and had more information, but both sites did a good job of making their page easy to understand. I also enjoyed the graphs that Supertracker supplied once I recorded the foods that were consumed; furthermore, the graphs made it more appealing for my visual...

Personal Narrative: Becoming A Teen Child

...I have always been told I size does not matter and I could do anything that I set my mind to do. When I read General Dwight D. Eisenhower saying, “What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight – it’s the size of the fight in the dog”, I could not agree more. The reasons I believe this to be true would be becoming a teen mother, completing three degrees with a grade point average of 3.75 and joining the military at the age of twenty-six. Over the course of my life, I have encountered several challenges that have proved this theory true. My fight inside me has shown that I could overcome any obstacle placed in my path. Being raised in a Catholic home, my first life challenge came sooner than I was prepared for. I found...

Personal Narrative: My Identity, Culture, And Family

...To singularly define my identity, culture and family in three items is extremely difficult. How do I encapsulate my entire essence with three tangible materials to complete strangers? After much thought, conversation, and pure chance the three things I would have to explain my background would be a football, Gummibärchen, and a pair of pink baby booties. The three things I have selected encompass my family identity, link to my German and American heritage, and pay ode to myself and culture. Football may seem like a typical American nod to our culture, but in my circumstance it is atypical. For as long as I can remember, football has been one of the only things to bring my family together. In 2006, I remember living on the military base, Camp Lejuene, and my mum burning her Pittsburg Steelers candle while the Steelers...

Personal Narrative: Varsity Singing

...I have always been very involved. I have been dancing since I was three and take 4-7 classes a week of many different types. Each class ranges between 45-60 minutes in length. I became a part of band and choir when I was in middle school and was the first chair flute player through all three middle school years, despite challenges from all the other players. I received an award from my band director for my musical talents. I became a part of a middle school show choir in my eighth-grade year called “Cougar First Edition.” We sang and danced for different events around town and rehearsed for three hours once a week. I auditioned for the Varsity Singers as an incoming freshman and made it in with only five other freshmen. Varsity Singers is a competitive show choir that puts in a minimum two three-hour rehearsals weekly. Practices on the weekends could be anywhere from 6-12 hours straight. Weeks right before competitions or performances were often filled with five rehearsals per week for two weeks, taking place every day after school...

Sci 220 Food Intake – 3 Days

...SCI/220 Food Intake – 3 Days     I kept a record of my dietary intake for three days using the WileyPLUS iProfile food intake journal. I definitely feel that the journal is a great tool since it breaks down the ingredients of my diet and shows me exactly what it is that I am putting into my body on any given day. In addition, since starting this journal I feel that it is important to be aware of what I am eating and I plan to continue to use this journal in the future. Not only does the journal allow me to record my daily diet but it also shows me the recommended daily values for each of the food groups, minerals, and vitamins based on my age, height, and body weight. Understanding what is being put into my body is essential for living a long, healthy life.      I tried to eat a wider variety of foods over the course of the three days so that I could have a balanced diet to write about. Out of the foods that I included in my diet, only a few foods contained protein, carbohydrates, and lipids. The protein in my diet was attributed to the chicken and the green vegetables that I consumed over the three days. The carbohydrates in my diet were mainly from the bread and the pizza that I consumed over the three days. The lipids that I consumed over the three days were from the fatty foods that I ate, such as fish, bacon, and pizza. Lipids come from the fats and oils that are in my diet (Carter). According to the Dietary Recommenced Intake, I had exactly 100% of the DRI for protein-carbohydrate-fat...

3-Day Diet Analysis

...Three Day Diet Analysis Hans, Ronald J. SCI 241 November 11, 2012 Stacey Nagy Three Day Diet Analysis Growing up I have always given my dad a hard time for his weight until about four years ago when he pulled out his wedding tux and I tried it on and could not fit in it. I am currently six foot four inches and weight approximately one hundred and fifty pounds so you can share my amazement when I found out that I couldn’t fit into my two hundred and fifty pound father’s tux. My dad got married when he was twenty two and I just turned twenty two, so I believe that it is about time to start being more a wear of what I eat. Being that I am currently underweight, I haven’t had to discipline myself when it comes to eating too much. My problem is that I do not eat enough of the right stuff. My three day food tracker account has shown me that my eating habits are horrible to say the least. I only managed to meet one daily food group target and that was only for two of the three days. I fell under the recommended calorie allowance on all three days as well. It is obviously that my diet needs help. Super Tracker recommends that I ingest 3200 calories per day. The highest I achieved in the past three days was only 2353 and that was because I almost ate an entire twelve inch pizza for dinner. Of the six classes of nutrients, Super Tracker recommends that I eat ten ounces of grains, four cups of vegetables, two and a half cups of fruit, three cups of dairy, seven ounces of protein...
