It is a clear example of how Kamikaze pilots were indoctrinated into seeing a divine image in the Emperor and the superiority of the Japanese nation; Furthermore, the origin of the source is of extreme importance since Captain Abe was a subject of indoctrination as a Japanese student; he was 21 years old when he died in 1945, which means he was in school in the 1930’s. Thus, this information allows the historian to analyze the educational system in Japan at this time and understand how it impacted Masaya’s decision.
