Identify the formal and informal roles of the group. Why is it important to understand these roles in professional practice?

As defined in the text the formal and informal roles are scapegoat, the quiet member, the defensive member and the monopolize. Out of all of all of these I think that the scapegoat is the hardest roles. Taking the blame for something can be very hard to do especially when you are in a group. I am more of a defensive member in a group setting. It is important to understand these roles in order to be able to understand a group and each individual person contribution to the group.

How does the group leader develop the culture for work in the group?

The group leader can develop the culture for work in the group by setting values and norm in the beginning of the group. The reason that it is important to set at the beginning of the group is so that the group members have a standard to follow. That way there is anything based on perception. Informing group members what is acceptable and what is not is a great way to stop maladaptive behavior before it starts. Another thing that group leaders can do is if the forget a value or a standard they can model that standard that they want in front of other group member to show them what is and what is not acceptable.

I think that the group can improve on their empathy. I didn’t feel like the other group member really cared what others were saying. I think they did a really good job at interacting with each other, which can be a challenge in groups sometimes.
