Input Devices

Input devices – is devices that we put INTO the computer from the real world to receive data or information. ID can be as human interaction as keyboard and mouse or simply environmental data as sensors. This is the list of possible examples of input devices such as : Camera , Compact Disk, Keyboard , Mouse , Digital Camera, Microphone , Drawing Tablet , Scanner, Disk Drive , Joystick , Touch Screen, Barcode reader , Business Card reader , Magnetic-stripe reader, etc.
First of all, an input device is any hardware device that sends data to the computer, without any input devices. In other words the input unit is formed by the input devices attached to the computer. An input unit takes the input and converts it into binary form so that it can be understood by the computer.
Camera is used during live conversations. The camera transmits a picture from one computer to another, or can be used to record a short video.
Compact Disk (CD) - The CD can be put into another computer, and the information can be opened and added or used on the second computer. There is one possible thing like a CD-R or CD-RW can be used as an output device.
Keyboard is a way to input letters or numbers into different programs or web-bourses. A keyboard also has special keys that help operate the computer. For ex. key “Microsoft” that helps us to open “start” section whenever we need.
Mouse is used to open and close files, navigate web sites, and click on a lot of commands (to tell the computer what to do) when using different applications. This is a pointing device which contains a roller in its base. When the mouse is moved on any surface, the pointer on the screen is also moved. A mouse may contain two or three buttons. Now a day's optical mice are very popular. Mice often function as an interface for PC-based computer games and sometimes for video game consoles.
Digital Camera - A digital camera can be used to take pictures. Some digital cameras are responsible to make video. Not all digital cameras hold a floppy disk, and the floppy disk can be taken out of the camera and put directly into the computer. Nowadays nearly all digital cameras have memory cards and it is very easy to input this card to the computer. For install using card reader to connect all possible data cards to PC. By the way card reader is also input device.
Drawing Tablet is similar to a white board, except you use a special pen to write on it and it's connected to the computer. Then the word or image you draw can be saved on the computer. There is some pens with Bluetooth. Logitech's Bluetooth-enabled digital pen is designed to address the current shortcomings of mobile/office data capture devices. A digital pen with USB and Bluetooth technology used in combination with a wireless handheld communications device or PC, can help an organization to more efficiency gather, transmit and share important data in real time.
Microphone is used to record sound. The sound is then saved as the sound file on the computer.
Scanner is used to copy pictures or other things and safe them as files on the computer.
Disk Drive – A disk drive can hold a CD or a floppy disk. It reads the information on the disk drive can hold a CD or floppy disk. It reads the information on the disk so the computer can use it.
Joystick – A joystick is used to move the cursor from place to place, and to clock on various items in programs. A joystick is used mostly for computer games.
Touch Screen - A touch screen is a computer screen or other screen that you can touch with u finger to enter information. Examples of touch screens include a smart boards, a microwave, a dishwasher, or an ATM at the bank.
Bar Code Scanner – A bar code scanner scans a little label that has a bar code on it. The information is then saved on the computer. Bar code scanners are used in libraries a lot.
Computer Technology: History and Development
Nothing epitomizes modern life better then the computer. For better or worse, computers have infiltrated every aspect of our society. Today computers do much more than simply compute: supermarket scanners calculate our grocery bill while keeping store inventory; computerized telephone switching centers play traffic cop to millions of calls and keep lines of communication untangled. But where did all this technology come from and where is it heading? To fully understand and appreciate the impact computers have on our lives and promises they hold for the future, it is important to understand their evolution.
Using the example of punched cards it is obvious how computer technologies developed through the ages.
A punched card, IBM card or Hollerith card is a piece of stiff paper that contains digital information represented by the presence or absence of holes in predefined position. Punched cards were widely distributed in 19th – 20th centuries for operating fairground organs and related instruments. Nowadays some voting machines still use punched cards.
The punched card as used for data processing, originally invented by Herman Hollerith, was first used for vital statistics tabulation by the New York City Board of Health and several states. After this trial use, punched cards were adopted for use in the 1890 census. The article on Hollerith's tabulating machine in Modern Mechanism, Appletons' Cyclopaedia of Applied Mechanics (1895, Page 832) contains illustrations of the mechanisms used to process the 1890 census. Greatest discoverers that time as Semen Korsakov, Charles Babbage, Joseph Marie Jacquard, Herman Hollerith developed punched cards through the ages introducing new changes in the work area of IBM cards. Beginning with the raw material they increased efficiency and durability of Hollerith cards.
Another example of computer development in 20th century is dot matrix printer. Dot matrix printer is a kind of computer printers with a print head that runs back and forth or up and down motion on the page it prints by impact, striking an ink-soaked cloth ribbon against the paper, much like the print mechanism on a typewriter. However, unlike a typewriter or daisy wheel printer, letters are drawn out of a dot matrix, and thus, varied fonts and arbitrary graphics can be produced.
Early dot matrix printers such as LA30 was a second 30 dot matrix printer introduced in 1970 by Digital Equipment Organization in Massachusetts. It printed 80 columns of uppercase-only 5x7 dot matrix characters across a unique-sized paper. Printer evolution changed through the ages replaced LA(12,38,32,120,180) by new commercial laser printers.
Laser printing appeared in 1969 it is a digital printing process that rapidly produced high quality text or graphics on a plain paper. As with digital photocopiers and multifunction printers (MFPs), laser printers employ a xerographic printing process, but differ from analog photocopiers in that the image is produced by the direct scanning of a laser beam across the printer's photoreceptor.
Principle of the laser printer is different from dot matrix printers: a laser beam projects an image of the page to be printed onto an electrically charged rotating drum coated with selenium or, more common in modern printers, organic photoconductors. Photoconductivity allows charge to leak away from the areas exposed to light. Dry ink (toner) particles are then electro statically picked up by the drum's charged areas, which have not been exposed to light. The drum then prints the image onto paper by direct contact and heat, which fuses the ink to the paper.
Final invention in the world of printers named 3D printing hit stores in 2003. 3D printing is the process of making 3 dimensional solid objects from a model. 3D printing is usually performed by a materials printer using digital technology. The use of additive manufacturing takes virtual designs from computer aided design or animation modeling software, transforms them into thin, virtual, horizontal cross-sections and then creates successive layers until the model is complete. It is a WYSIWYG(!) process where the virtual model and the physical model are almost identical.
These examples show permanent changes in the world of computer technology. Innovative technology (IT) is not standing still today. Day by day little changes in this huge processing develop and who know what we will see in a 10 years…

The future of innovative technologies (personal view)
At the beginning I want to point that in the past twenty years, there has been a dramatic increase in the processing speed of computers, network capacity and the speed of the internet. These advances have paved the way for the revolution of fields such as quantum physics, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology.
Nanotechnology takes it beginning in 20th century and it is still not fully investigated. As for me I think that nanotechnology will be deeply explored in electronic nanocomputers, chemical and biochemical nanocomputers, mechanical and quantum nanacomputers. Time goes by and cure terrible disease such as AIDS has not been found. Based on this scientists aim to use nanotechnology to create nanorobots that will serve as antibodies that can be programmed. This will help to protect humans against pathogenic bacteria and viruses that keep mutating rendering many remedies ineffective against new strains.
Secondly , I think that in nearest future computer science discover non-touchable screens like in American movies about future or good example of such development submitted in movie “Iron man”. We could browse files, print, perform all the functions that we are doing by using the mouse without input devices.
It is obvious that future of computer development will be closely connected with wireless computing, voice recognition and Internet processing. In this way, computer technology will saturate almost every facet of our life. What seems like virtual reality at the moment will become the human reality in the future of computer technology.
