The two key elements utilized in this story were setting and symbolism. Each played a significant role to capture the theme of this narrative. The story begins in a country setting; a woman is standing at the edge of a flowing river. It was a clear and sunny day and the sky was blue. As I read the opening paragraphs, I had a sense that the environment described felt to be peaceful and serene, as one might feel when they transcend into the afterlife.
