COMM317 – Interpersonal Corporate Communication

Self-Awareness/Self-Analysis Most individuals believe they have a good understanding about what makes them tick therefore are not consciously aware of those aspects that need improvement. Self-analysis is not easy but is necessary for one’s self to be an effective player in a professional environment. Currently, I work for an organization that has been hit hard by the downfall of the housing industry. I have watched numerous colleagues lose their jobs to layoffs, been part of tough budget cuts and project eliminations and still must cope during these unstable times feeling the pressures of double work, less pay and an unhappy environment. In my immediate department I work with one gentleman that displays such negative behavior and attitude that trying to be productive under extreme conditions is hard enough without hearing his daily rants about his lack of entitled respect, lack of appreciation from management or the fact that he feels he is entitled to give his two cents where I feel quite frankly, he is not entitled. The problem is that I listen to his rants but I have failed to eliminate this negative behavior put upon myself by not speaking up and communicating my thoughts to this gentleman. I continue to encourage this behavior by not speaking to him but feel, at times, this little gesture of compassion is all that he needs. Unfortunately, I am not truthful in this compassion as he has become an irritant and I am quickly gaining ground on my dislike of this individual. I realize I need to step back and do a self analysis on myself so I reflect on what action I should take in this situation.

Behaviors I am one of those individuals that can be all over the board when trying to understand my behavior or patterns in my behavior. Negativism motivates me before positive. This stems from my childhood and
