Since 7000 B.C. dentistry has been one of the oldest medical professions. James Wynbrandt explains throughout much recorded time, dentistry has been more advanced at the hands of unskilled practitioners. According to Wynbrandt, many people in the past did not have the misery of tooth decay, but most problems arose from the excessive wearing of the teeth. This dental problem had been seen in many dental remains of all prehistoric times. A few years later another problem occurred called tooth decay and gum disease. If a tooth had this problem the tooth extraction was knocked out by a piece of hard stone or other rigid objects. These maladies didn’t arise from lack of care. Wynbrandt states that loss of teeth was common, with extensive, chronic, superlative gum disease characteristic by destructive bone-the most repeated cause. The Egyptians had servants to keep their teeth and hair clean, therefore teeth were the in need of serious attention. As early as 3000 B.C. Egypt had 100 medical specialties, half a dozen associated with dentistry, and dental specialists practicing there.
