Job Title: Librarian
Supervisor: High School Principal Pay Rate: Level 3
Job Goals: Empower students and faculty to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skilled researchers, and ethical users of information and resources provided both inside the high school library and other outside sources.
Job Duties: * Opening and/or closing library * Assist students and faculty in researching and finding requested information * Search online sources, periodicals, books and other resources to assist students and faculty members with reference question * Organization of the librarian office and library calendar * Organization of materials and sources * Checking resources in and out of library * Assist in teaching students and faculty basic computer skills, such as searching computerized databases. * Review and evaluate current library materials * Supervise student librarian helpers * Cooperate and network with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school * Order updated materials and remove old or outdated material from library * Research and locate information in response to specific requests and questions * Explain library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies * Respond to students and faculty complaints, taking action as necessary * Develop library policies and procedures * Maintaining cleanliness throughout the library * Creating a schedule and ensuring that the library is open from 7a-4p Monday thru Friday * Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills: * Bachelors degree and one year related work experience (customer service field) * English Language * Customer Service skills * Computer, Technology, and Electronic skills * Training ability * Communication skills * Bilingual (preferred but not necessary) * Critical thinking skills * Reading, writing, and speaking clearly to both students and faculty * Lift 50-70 lbs * Reaching, pulling, and pushing materials on shelving * Standing or sitting for long periods of time
Supervision Duties:
It is the librarian’s job duty to hire, train, and schedule student library helpers. Ensuring the student helpers are learning about the library, organizational skills, customer service skills, and other work related responsibilities. As the librarian it is your duty to supervise the student helpers and report any problems with a student to their first hour teacher and/or principal.

** Team work is imperative in any job however not all jobs require daily team work to complete a task. As a librarian it is important to work with the school as a team and other librarians to ensure the library has up-to-date sources and is as resourceful and helpful as possible to both students and faculty. Another advantage to working as a team is the extra coverage available during high occupancy times (finals, before school and after school). One disadvantage to having a librarian work with the school and outside agencies as a team would be the time away from the library. If the librarian becomes involved in other “team” projects it takes that employee away from the facility and their job duties. In many cases if there are other commitments that take their time away from the facility it may become necessary to hire another staff member for the library which increases payroll, benefits and other areas of the budget.
**( My profession of choice is a Program Coordinator for a Residential Facility) I will access a job analysis and job description for my selected position by obtaining information from the web as well as interviewing a professional in this position. During the interview I will ask the professional if they have seen a job analysis or description for their position. If the professional has seen one or both tools I will ask them to elaborate with details so I am aware of what their current expectations are. I will also ask the professional what changes they would like to see be made on the analysis and description they were provided.
