...Bullying in its truest form is comprised of a series of repeated intentionally cruel incidents, involving the same children in the same bully and victim roles. It differs from harassment and discrimination in that the focus is rarely based on gender, race, or disability. Children bully because of abuse at home, feelings, and inferiority. The consequences and effects of bullying are that the bullies suffer mentally in future, commit suicide, or suffer from depression. The solutions of bullying are to get together, talk about it, and educate people. Children bully because they are abused at home, to achieve popularity, they are in need of money to fulfill their wishes and desires, they are hungry and they need to eat at drink because they don’t get fed at home, they are coping with a serious family situation, they have learned violence at home, they have displaced anger, they feel powerless and out of control, and they lack self-esteem. People may bully because they are jealous of someone and they may not know how it makes other people feel and the person who is bullying may be bullied him or herself too. The consequences and effects of bullying are very bad. According to statistics from Smithtown Elementary School, by age twenty-three children who were identified as bullies in Middle school suffered from depression and low self-esteem than their peers who were not bullies. By age twenty-four, sixty percent of identified bullies had a criminal record. Bullies are less likely to...

...1. Beth used the power play “you got to be kidding,” when she laughs at his suggestion of visiting the doctor as a family. In this power play, Beth is not acting out of surprise. She is trying to show how ridiculous Calvin was to suggest it. Calvin refused to become angry, as he stayed calm and elaborated. Beth again shot him down. She repeats his statement of the doctor thinking the group therapy would be a good idea in an incredulous voice, adding to the “You got to be kidding” method. By asking questions, she expressed the want to keep everything the same. “Don’t try to change me, Calvin. I don’t want any more changes in my life.” Following this, Beth proceeds to hint at the recent family troubles and concludes them to be enough change....

...If you were to ask me what’s the first thing I notice about a person, it wouldn’t be their eyes. It wouldn’t be their hair. It wouldn’t even be their face. Nor would it be their personality. It would be their shoes. It’s not because I’m looking down a lot. Or maybe it is. I do look down a lot. I get shy. But I’ve always been a firm believer in that shoes are the pathway to the soul. Hold your laughter. Shoes tell me a lot about a person. And no, they don’t just tell me the superficial things. Yes, if the shoes are trendy, you’re probably a trendy person. But maybe they’re a bit beat up. No, it doesn’t mean you’re beat up. Maybe you just like adventure more than fashion. Maybe you wear flip flops in November. Maybe you wear Uggs in July. I will judge you for that. I will wonder about your sanity. Maybe you wear 4 inch heels walking up the university steps. Maybe you wear beat up Converse down the aisle to the tune of ‘Here Comes The Bride’. Or maybe you’re like me and you wear a different pair of shoes every day. Why yes, I do have a problem. But this post isn’t about me. If you’re wearing running shoes when you’re not running, I think of you as the wannabe athlete. Or maybe sports are your life. It’s all you think about so why would you need any other pairs of shoes? If you’re wearing Hunters, I might want to be your friend. After all, us rain boot girls gotta stick together. If you’re wearing $500 leather boots, I applaud your wallet and your ability to realize that life is a...

...What are you laughing at? Simon Pegg, The Guardian, Saturday 10 February 2007 You could spend a lot of time exploring the differences between British and American comedy only to reach the conclusion that, ironically, they're pretty much the same. Back when director Edgar Wright and myself were writing our debut feature, Shaun Of The Dead, we were certainly banking on a comic universality in the story of a suburban waster battling the living dead. We had every confidence that the humour would translate. Indeed, we made only one subtle dialogue adjustment during the writing process, changing the word "pissed" to "drunk", so as to avoid any confusion between the conditions of being munted and mardy. The film went on to enjoy surprising success in the US, suggesting that surmounting the supposed gulf between our respective senses of humour requires nothing more than a light skip. When it comes to humour, however, there is one cultural myth that just won't die. You hear it all the time from self-appointed social commentators sat astride high horses, dressed as knights who say, "Ni". They don't get it. They never had it. They don't know what it is and, ironically, they don't want it anyway. That's right: "Americans don't do irony." This isn't strictly true. Although it is true that we British do use irony a little more often than our special friends in the US. It's like the kettle to us: it's always on, whistling slyly in the corner of our daily interactions. To Americans, however...

I pay ten bucks a month for snail mail Netflix. If I would have went out to a theater and seen this on the big screen for ten bucks, I'd be happy. Just seeing if you the reader, are still paying attention. All kidding aside, nearing age 55, besides money I don't like to waste time. No such thing happened viewing 'Bloodsucking Bastards'. And remember, I watched it twice, listening to the commentary by Dr. God the second time around. Blu-ray Disc: Nice job by Scream Factory. Cool bonus features / easter eggs. I recommend not only renting 'Bloodsucking Bastards' like from Netflix, but also purchasing. A nice one for those who still collect discs, and are not into streaming. ...

...I MISS THE CANDY ENG/340 JULY 15, 2013 I MISS THE CANDY I miss the candy, and the cute costumes the little children wore with such glee. I could sometimes even see a glimpse of supreme genius in the adult participants’ attire if I looked closely. One such memorable occasion, I saw two gentlemen dressed as characters from the movie “A Clockwork Orange.” This turns out to be a very obscure movie; as I have recently discovered. Uncharacteristic boldness propelled me to confirm the reference and relate my woes on procurement. Turns out they had similar difficulties for research on their costumes. Even the all mighty worldwide web work [just kidding] could burb up little but still photos from the movie. Bummer. I digress….. Sorry. Ehh hemmm I miss the time when little princesses, super heroes, witches and the like were herded through the eagerly waiting neighborhoods. The well-kept lawns and street facing gardens still valiantly struggle; holding on to the last remnants of summer beauty, but chilling nights have begun to take toll on even the best landscaping efforts, amateur and professional alike. Many took advantage of natures’ outcome to make them especially scary in theme decoration choices. I had trees, lots of different ones. There were tall mature oaks, Christmas pines of all types, along with a colorful variety of maples and various fruits. Each one capable, in the right hands, of transforming into a corner of the eye heart stopping something...

The director, Bennett Miller, has succeeded in matching author Michael Lewis’ style by using a great sense of lighting, audio, characterisation, setting and editing to help capture the theme; underdogs can be winners in the right circumstances. ...Description: What could be more hell-like agonizing than waking up in a mysterious room with the people you’d least want to be stuck with, with all of you having nothing to remember about who you were and why you are there? And then a man would enter, call himself the custodian and reveal that you are no doubt in hell itself. As you observed the room, you begin to far consider it as hell since it is not a thing as you imagined hell to be. The room had no corners with only about ten normal steps in diameter. It is also glass-walled but with nothing beyond it in sight. Then you noticed the ceiling which produces the brightness of the room. It is a whole ceiling flat with light wherein no switch in the room can be sighted. The floor was also fully made with cushion, making it comfortable to sleep at, except the man emphasized that drowsiness in that room does not exist. Minus the fact that it has no furniture or anything, it could have been a pleasant room, way better than hell as imagined. The custodian left, and since the room has nothing left to offer, you have no choice but to notice the two other people there with you. The girl must be in her early twenties. She seemed to be in middle class with a flabby body structure and a white complexion. One irritating thing about her is her screechy voice, which have been surrounding the room since she gained consciousness because of her constant crying. The man on your opposite side, who must be in her late forties, chose to be...

...Rashid Whittaker Mr. Chaemsaithong English 1302 2/21/10 Midterm Essay In option 1 the two conversations portray different styles of indirect complaints that involves a third party. While looking similar, essentially the politeness strategies implemented in this are not all the same, seeing as how the level of familiarity between the two parties is different. The party discussing the hotel give the impression of two strangers having a conversation, while those discussing the airport security guard seem to be acquainted with each other. I will be investigating the politeness strategies used in these two conversations, their differences and their similarities. As I stated above this exchange seems to be conducted between two strangers seeing as how the person complaining is using positive politeness in order to feel like he is not the only one who felt appalled by the bugs and living conditions inside of the hotel. Victor is constantly stating his opinions on things and exclaiming that he can’t believe he’s in London. This indicates that Victor is hoping that Luda will agree with his opinions. He does this so that he can feel more comfortable with his rant about the hotel and to feel as if he isn’t alone in this conversation. Victor is also constantly talking familiarly with Luda going so far as to use grammatically incorrect English when conversing. At one point Victor interrupts Luda in the middle of her saying something. This shows that Victor is openly announcing...
