Lacrosse

A team game, originally played by North American Indians, in which the ball is thrown, caught, and carried with a long handled stick having a curved L-shaped or triangular frame at one end with a piece of shallow netting in the angle.
The rules of lacrosse are different. There are different types of lacrosse. In this case we will be talking about the (MLL) Major Lacrosse League. The rules State that the MLL uses a 60-second shot clock, which is reset after a goal is scored, a shot hits the post or is saved by the goalie, or there is a change of possession. If the clock runs out, possession is granted to the other team. Because of the shot clock, there is no restraining box to "keep it in". There are two television timeouts per quarter in MLL games. They are at the first dead ball stoppages under 9 minutes and under 4 minutes. Dead ball stoppages include goals, penalties, and changes of possession. There is a maximum of 19 players dressed in uniform per team in MLL games. All quarters and overtime periods must begin with a face off, regardless of a man up or man down situation. The strategy for Lacrosse is quite simple to be a good Lacrosse player. The key to being a good Lacrosse player is to use your speed. Also to keep the ball as close to you as possible so the opponents stick won’t hit it and go loose. Another good tactic is to use a lot of passing and that will make you and your team a good team.
The equipment you need for lacrosse is a helmet, stick, gloves, shoulder pads, goggles, and arm protection. These are used while playing Lacrosse to keep you safe and to not cause serious injuries. This type of equipment is required to play in a league. Not having this type of equipment, will not allow players to play in team, since this is a huge part of the requirements.
Teamwork is important in Lacrosse Leagues, especially when playing with competitive teams. Because you need to motivate and help each other to maintain good communication in order to win. Communication is one of the main keys to win, because this will allow team players to have good passing positions and have good strategies to win. Teamwork helps each individual become a better player and a better team.
Lacrosse is a very competitive sport. It’s physical and using a lot of roughness on the field. Overall this is a very fun sport to play in, and the good outcomes of Lacrosse will help you stay in fit and have fun at the same time.

Lacrosse In War

...The purpose of Lacrosse in the novel is to practice for war, to unite as a family and a tribe, and for the devotion to Sky Woman and to the sky. Lacrosse is played in the novel to practice for war with the European colonists that were coming to trade furs with the Iroquois. Lacrosse is practiced between two different tribes, the Huron and the Arendahronnon. The battle was known to the tribes as “The Creator's Game” and was played over the period of three days. Personal Narrative: Lacrosse Goalie

...Lacrosse Goalie It was an unseasonably hot day in late April of 2012 when I first stepped into that white ring of glory that surround the lacrosse goal (commonly referred to as the “crease”). This would be the kickoff of my Lacrosse experience and a monumental part of my life. Normally, I played the position of either defense or midfield. If you have never played Lacrosse and do not know the positions, you should know that in midfield, there is a ton of running back and forth across the field A LOT (that’s crucial for later). Anyways, my best friend at the time, Madison, was the goalie at the time. She, however, hated the position because the entire purpose of the goalie is to protect and stop the ball from getting into the goal with your...

Why Lacrosse Is Important To Me

...years old, stepping on to the lacrosse field for the first, my white Nike cleats strung tight, and my light blue stick gripped firmly in my hands. I had little knowledge of how the game worked except I felt like I belonged on the large field of dried grass. I belonged in between the two orange poles of the goalie net. I had such a homey feeling since I am kinesthetic learner. I learn best when I am moving my body. Therefore, the drills would come naturally to me just by trying them out. For the first few years I played lacrosse I considered it to be only an after school activity at which I accelerated. It was not until my sophomore year in high school, when I began to struggle in math that I realized lacrosse means so much to me....

After practice, Coach talked to me and said he still had one place in the field. Of course I said yes, not just because it’s beneficial for college, but also because of Scott. Yeah, I was in love with him, head over heels. I always looked at him from a distance and now was my chance to really get to know him. Someone tapped me on my shoulder. Speaking of the devil: It was Scott. “Are you ready for your first practice?” His famous smile had formed on his face, you know, the one that makes you weak in the knees? “Yeah, I guess…” He looked at me from head to toe. Wait, did he just check me...

...interpretation of lacrosse and hockey. Journal of American Folklore, 115, (45), 271-282. In his article, Robidoux claims, the origin of the national identity of Canada is closely connected to sports and competition. He also stated that the modernization of sport not only involved the style and rules of play, but also symbolized the introduction of organization, dictatorship and a political structure. The modernization of sport however had an underlining of imperial assimilation as European sports, such as cricket, were being introduced. Robidoux suggests that George Beers, a politician, used sports as Canada’s way of escaping Imperialism and creating unity between Canadians. Beers used the native game, Baggataway, that was soon modernized and renamed to Lacrosse, as a perfect game for the new Canadian identity because it represented the aggressive behaviours that were respected and said to be embodied in a true Canadian. Robidoux suggested that Lacrosse, in design, gave Canadian males an opportunity to display their superiority over one another in competition. Competition became so aggressive and dominant by the working-class and natives, that the upper-class invoked amateurism, which was highly exclusive and made the working-class and native competitors virtually unable to compete. Ultimately Lacrosse became so exclusive that the working-class turned to other sports, of them hockey was the most popular. Robidoux claims that hockey had the aspects loved in lacrosse and the frozen...

Iroquois Indians Lacrosse

...Iroquois Indians and Lacrosse Lacrosse is a sport played worldwide and is centerpiece of the Iroquois Indian culture. This sport involves using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse (aka lacrosse stick) and because this is a contact sport, it requires padding. The head of the lacrosse stick is strung with loose mesh that is designed to catch and hold the lacrosse ball. The object of the game is to score by shooting the call into the opponent’s goal. The stick can be used to catch, carry, and pass the ball. This game was introduced in 1750 by the Mohawk tribe. Iroquois loved to play lacrosse because it was a source of entertainment, physical conditioning, and it was also a religious celebration as a way to honor the Creator. One of the highly celebrated traditions goes back to the Iroquois Confederacy where young warriors staged a lacrosse game for one of the league founders, Hayewat-ha, to console him for the loss of his children. Not only is lacrosse played to please the Creator but also is a rite that is sacred to the Thunders, the seven honored grandfathers who move across the sky from west to east cleansing the earth with wind and rains. Often times, lacrosse is prescribed as a ritual healing, usually recommended through a dream or fortune teller. When the Iroquois would play lacrosse, there would be approximately 100 to 150+ men on a field of a few miles long. The teams would play until one team scored 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 goals. This often took days...
