...My Personal Leadership Experience Megan Schlafer Transformational Leadership/LS335 November 6, 2012 Dr. Mary Weber My Personal Leadership Experience The following paper will include a brief explanation of my occupational background, as well as a discussion of the circumstances, experiences, and people who I believe have helped my leadership ability. It will go on to explore my own experience and abilities in leadership roles, described by my viewpoints, and future ambitions related to leadership. Further detail will be examined of my leadership philosophies, style, and where I have put them into action. Lastly, I will conclude the extent to which I feel my leadership abilities are consistent with transformative leadership principles, as well as how these abilities will help me in the future. I will also discuss how I might strengthen said abilities in the present. Occupational Background I entered the workplace by the age of fourteen. I managed to get a job bussing tables at a supper club on the lake. I continued working in restaurants until the age of nineteen, moving up the ladder from busser, to hostess, and eventually settling on bartending. I liked restaurant work, for the most part. Truth be told, it was the money that kept me in the field. My experience was so narrow, that I had a hard time getting out of it. Management at this point in my life was never something that interested me; I was content just doing my job. I was immature, and did not...

...Through my experience at the Northeast Region Regional Cadet Leadership School, I hope to gain knowledge in leadership theory, teamwork and the overall cadet program. This being my first official day of RCLS, I am excited to learn, grow and have fun. First, I am excited to learn more about leadership. From effective communication (whether it is written or oral), to resolving issues, to organization and management, to the principles of “leading by example” and “servant leadership” — I hope to build the skills I do not have and sharpen the skills that I do. It’s a well known fact that “iron sharpens” iron and, by working around so many other talented cadet officers and senior noncommissioned officers, I hope to learn from the ideologies presented...

...Wisdom Many respected people in the world are often considered to be wise. To be considered wise becomes an attribute many aspire to obtain. Whether you are a political leader a religious leader or are involved in anything that requires leadership skills, wisdom is always a desired quality. Wisdom is a trait that one can gain over experiencing different types of situations. Being wise is a title that is bestowed upon a person, rather than that person claiming the title for their own. Even though wisdom can mean a lot of things to different people; the description, negation, and process of someone who is wise can help us better understand the true meaning of wisdom. Let us begin by stating that one is not born being wise, but wisdom is acquired though experience. The experience may vary from person to person. Mostly it is though hardship that one earns wisdom, through enduring difficult situations and staying strong. Although it is not just enduring a bad time because one can go through a rough patch in life, but learn nothing and do the same mistake all over again. Thus, to gain wisdom is to persevere and learn though experience. Wisdom, aside from deriving from experience has to stem from humbleness, as there is no wisdom without humility. Humility is often characterized by a person’s unwillingness to be the center of attention or by a person’s quickness to share credit or place others in a superior position. One who is wise recognizes that the standing of others should...

What specifically do you hope to gain personally from experiencing life in another culture? 2. Personally, I plan on gaining a lot from experiencing life in another culture. I am excited to see how their community works as a whole in comparison to how Americans live. The United States' culture, values, and beliefs are not like any other country. We live a totally different lifestyle than most people all over the world; and I would like to experience it firsthand. To be able to live on another continent, in another country, living another culture-it will expose me to a new environment with new traditions. While I'm there, all I can do is learn, taking in every new experience, and realize there is more to living than the way I was taught in America. I love to learn and embrace new ideas; different cultures it has always...

...I believe that I am using self-fulfilling prophecies by allowing underclassmen the ability to make more mistakes and learn at a much slower pace than my seniors who are more experienced. Knowing that certain players are coming in with little or know experience at all at the college level I make the assumption that they all will learn at a much slower pace than the upperclassmen and that’s not the case in every instance. When an experienced player makes a mistake that they shouldn’t I am much quicker to react in a not so positive manner because I feel as if they should no better. An underclassman can make that same mistake and instead of reacting quickly to discipline them I give them more feedback and hands on instruction so that future errors can be minimized. Taking this approach can have an impact on a player being successful because playing time will be given to those players that I feel have the best grasp of what I won’t them to run and typically this will be the more experienced players and those that are inexperienced will have to wait for their chance to prove that they can execute as well as if not better than those who are upperclassman. Part 2 1) Beliefs about Athletic Ability- 10 2) Beliefs about Coaching Success-10 3) Stereotypic Beliefs-7 4) Preseason Expectations-5: Having players weigh in with me before they leave for summer break will allow me to give them a weight in which I would like for them to be at when they return for the fall semester instead of...

...websites of Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Two prominent companies in the aerospace and aviation industry, which is, and will most likely always be, the primary industry I'm employed in. Both companies' websites successfully convey information in a simplified and descriptive manner. With Lockheed Martin, there are navigational links for different levels of employment and experience levels, such as ex-military personnel transitioning into the civilian careers, new college graduates, interns, and experienced professionals. This simplifies the job search into a 'one-click' method in which interested applicants can view the opportunities that are available to their respective experience levels, as well as any further instructions for applying. Boeing, while also having links to different employment levels, seems more focused on communicating information about the company's ethics, history, and products. This field is based on staying on top of new technology and producing goods of exceptional quality, which means there is a . However, at some levels of both companies, there is a cost-leadership strategy in producing goods for the lowest cost and having employees more efficient than the other. Therefore, it appears that both companies are using a combination strategy, and doing so successfully. There seems to be an encouraged strong desire for entry level applicants with both companies, however, there is a clearly evident need for experienced professionals. There isn't...

...Case Study Chapter 15 Leadership Question 1: I would consider Jim Blaylock a figurehead leader. First because he didn’t have any experience with sales, but in spite of this he was chosen to be vice president of sales. Regardless he would have been able to over come this if he had the willingness to learn from his team and humility. He did the opposite though he had a harsh and extreme attitude that made it so he didn’t care for his team nor clients. Therefor he showed no skills in building relationships. So with this major characteristic and the fact that he was also unable to deliver results one could easily categorize him as a figurehead. Question 2: I would consider Jim Blaylock an incompetent manager because of first his lack of subject matter expertise. Jim was placed in a head sales position but had no former experience with sales. On top of this he wasn’t able to build a team like needed, so therefor was unable to use any expertise from his followers. His attitude actually made him more distant from his followers than anything. So with these problems I would definitely classify Blaylock as an incompetent manager. Question 3: First off Jim was recruited straight from college and the company paid for him to go and complete law school, because of this he was promoted very quickly. From the information we are given though we can’t be sure whether he was promoted from his knowledge of the position or not. Its possible that since the CEO portrayed him has a bright...

...Mentee The purpose of this essay is to discuss how I identify myself as an early careerist in understanding my goal of climbing a ladder in leadership, the reason I need mentoring and its importance, describing what my mentor does professionally, and his or her possessed traits and why is this important to me. I may say that a professional leadership is a combination of both theoretical and practical work-experience an individual achieves through education and hand-on practice in organizational daily activities to plan, execute, and implement. First and foremost, I will distinguish the two mutualistic terms: these are mentor and mentee. To say it one way or another, a mentor gives advice while a mentee receives advice. According to Ledlow and Coppola (2011), mentor is “a person of greater knowledge or wisdom who shares experience to help to develop the abilities of junior person;” mentee is “a person who seeks guidance or wisdom from a mentor” (Ledlow & Coppola, 2011). Currently I am a student who works at the entry-level job with hope to achieve a better learning that may pave a way for me to enter a professional market in healthcare. In this context, I consider myself as an earlier careerist after completing the program. Perhaps someday, I will get hired by a certain organization at junior position; despite the learning experience that I have acquired, I will surely expect to seek a mentor among seniors who have been in the organization for a longer time to direct me...
