...When first embarking on the Stocktrak site I must admit I had very little experience with investing of any real kind. I was an amateur and I thought it would be a fun way to learn a little bit about the market and myself in how I might approach looking at investing and the kind of approach I would take. From the start I took a rather conservative approach to the entire thing. I roughly made about one trade a week and even didn’t make a trade in a week at all. Granted in a market that’s down a bit to maximize my earnings that might not have been the best approaches as the market didn’t not vary a whole lot, at least for what I had invested in, but I will get to that later. As far as what I hoped to get as a rough expected return was about 5-10%. I was hoping to make some money within the game but also not expecting huge profits based on the current financial climate and the amount of trading and effort put in for my more conservative portfolio. That return I was hoping to realize in the 10-week holding period but looking at it now with a change in the climate in future months it might be more realizable in an annualized holding period. Some constraints that I took into consideration while doing this project are not very severe and don’t entail a whole lot. When I took this project on I didn’t particularly see the 10 weeks as the final see all. I did not go and put all 500,000 directly into the market even though I used most of it. It was more long term probably closer to a...

...soldiers. In this case I have used my poster to go mainly against the Nazi’s, but I added a little bit against the Japanese as well. Within the poster itself you are able to see a nasty green hand with a swastika on top of it. I also included four hands breaking apart the swastika, and lastly I have portrayed the Japanese and their evils within a sort of scythe. This is what is mainly seen, apart from the slogan itself and the evil eyes in the background. As you can see, I used Demonization in this poster. This can be seen in the way Hitler’s hand was drawn. It is a nasty green color, with long yellow nails in which way giving it the looks of, perhaps, being a zombie or simply un-human. When it comes to the Japanese, I have represented them within the scythe. This was supposed to be a scythe just like the one of the grim reaper, but I decided in the end to make it look more like a skeleton hand as opposed to just having a long rod as is typically seen. The last factors used were the evil-looking eyes. I added Hitler’s mustache and comb-over so that he could be identified. In this way effectively showing how evil he is. The next tool I was able to use was name-calling. By saying, “Help get rid of those filthy Huns!” I am, in a sense, degrading the German army. I also used “Eliminate the yellows from the rainbow.” By doing so, I am not only making fun of them, but even adding a little humor to the situation. I think this is somewhat funny because I can imagine them super dirty...

...There was a couple moments only a sentence or two where he made me think the story was going to become easier to read, but it did not. In a way I do pity him, because his sentences consisting of only a few words and the way he would say the same sentence over, just switching the words a little made it seem to me that the narrator did not know how to speak correctly. The narrator seemed almost resentful about Robert coming to visit. He came across very rude and non-supporting of his wife, who was excited being able to see an important friend she had not seen in years. The narrator acted like being blind was a contagious and deadly disease. He did everything not to like Robert or to give him a fighting chance. Robert surprised me in the end, because after the way the narrator reacted throughout the story, in the end it was Robert who won over the narrator and gave the narrator an important life experience. Robert may be blind and could not see the narrator’s actions and facial comments, but he had to be able to feel the negative attitude the narrator had towards him. Robert just continued on, acting like he had not noticed how unwanted he was there. Robert pushed the narrator a little bit at a time to get him to open up and get to know him. After dinner I really did not notice Robert trying more than usual to get the narrator to like him. He seemed to take it or leave it as they went along, not taking the narrators attitude to heart and getting upset over it. The narrator...

...Ghosts by Naomi Wood The short story by Naomi Wood was written in 2012, and is about Pia, who is a middle-aged woman and the day where the short story takes place, is her 40th birthday. In this story we meet Pia, her partner Daniel and random people from the streets and of course Pia is our main character. The short story starts in the middle of Pia’s day, she just finished working and she is about to leave the car park at work. She is on her way home, where her partner Daniel waits to take her to a restaurant to celebrate her birthday, but on her way home she is reflecting over what it means to turn 40. The short story is told in a chronological order, but with flash back-like situations “Giving in, she ghosted back through memory. She drank the coffee, ate the omelette, took down the laundry...”. What’s most important is the middle and the ending of the short story, how Pia starts by thinking that turning forty will only be the first of many depressing situations, but actually comes to the conclusion that it is only as depressing as you make it. It is kind of an open ending where the author puts in a line saying “Time waits for no man” which sums up on every reflections Pia had during her drive home. The atmosphere of the story is to begin with really tense and dim because of how Pia feels about herself. Turning 40 should be something to celebrate but for Pia it is the same as starting digging your own grave. When she hears the news of the neutrinos she “…wondered...

...Imagine a drug that can transform you into a zombie slave. A machine that loses all free will, is very compliant, but still appears to be alert and coherent. The drug is easily removed from a very common plant. It’s tasteless, odorless, and can be quickly mixed into drinks, food, and cigarettes. This demon drug is called borrachero. Ask any Colombian resident about borrachero, also known as burundanga. They’re sure to tell you some horror story about the drug. They’ll tell stories of victims who willingly handed over their wallets and PINs, or visit the bank with their captors and withdraw huge amounts of cash. They also take the thieves to their home and casually help them load all their possessions into a truck. Sound scary? That’s because it’s supposed to. The borrachero is real and dangerous. The active substance is scopolamine and is extracted from the Bugmansia plant, also known as Angel’s Trumpet, which grows wild throughout the Andes. The stories about criminals chemically making people compliant are an urban myth. There’s plenty of mystery surrounding scopolamine and it’s ability to create submission. Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele, known as the “Angel of Death”, supposedly experimented with the drug as an questioning aid. The CIA had a similar idea and investigated it as a truth serum, but it was unsuccessful. It’s mentioned in a number of Hollywood movies, including “Where Eagles Dare”, “The Guns of Navarone” and “Robocop 2”. So it’s not surprising that scopolamine...

...because everything Emmy goes threw is like a detour for her from start to ending. Emmy went threw a lot from being a regular teenager to being a mother at teenager years. Emmy had to change her goals and her dreams because of on little mistake that happened. But that didn’t stop Emmy from being the best she could be. She continued her life but down another path because she had another life to take care of besides her own. Being a single parent for Emmy was hard because she didn’t have Art there to help her or be there for Rosie. This was another big detour for Emmy because she thought that Art would’ve been a little bit more of a father and help to Rosie and her but he wasn’t. Everything to Emmy was a big disappointment to her in her life but she would just take another turn to make things better for her. Life for Emmy was full decisions to make either she took one path or she took another. Usually one was the difficult path because she either had to give something up she didn’t have the help. She would always have to take the path she knew would be easier for her and would help her with Rosie. “Detour for Emmy” was a very good title for this book as I explained the things Emmy had to go threw and the detours she had to make because of a little mistake that happened that turned her whole life...

... interesting story. The characters are memorable and distinct. I only have a few recommendations for improving the script. !1. The relationship between Jake and Polly !I think it would be nice to have some more background on their relationship together. At some point the reason they are together should be made clear. It would raise the stakes once Antonio becomes involved and allow us to see a more complete character arc for both of them. Without it, some of the dialogue, tension, and conflicts sometimes feel a little bit forced or unrealistic, particularly on page 58, 68, and 77. Particularly on page 77, instead of saying “So I’m selfish now,” maybe Polly can say something acknowledging she made a mistake. That way, Jake will seem more in the wrong once he says something hurtful and it will make even more sense as to why Polly almost hooks up with Antonio. !2. Polly’s Transformation !Much of Polly’s transformation throughout the middle of the script seems a bit shallowly presented—merely through outfit changes and her growing acceptance of Antonio’s taboo behavior and ideas. She mentions that Jake wants to change her, but it seems more that he just wants to bring the old her back. It would be nice to have clarification on that change and why it is so hurtful to her that Jake doesn’t seem to like it. This relates to the tension I addressed in #1. I think there needs to be a moment where Polly fully recognizes that she has changed but that it is for the better. It would make...

...Explore the presentation of Myrtle, Daisy and Cecilia Myrtle is presented as a woman that is made to look a little bit cheap, and a woman who is from a lower class to those of Daisy, Tom and Gatsby. We can see this clearly as she lives in the valley of ashes. This is almost an automatic contrast to Daisy who lives in West egg. As an egg has just been born, and is full of a future, whereas ashes are something that remains from a thing that used to live, but will never be anything again. Something that Daisy, Myrtle and Cecilia all have in common is that they’re all materialistic. Daisy is won over by a pearl necklace, Myrtle overcrowds her apartment with “tapestries furniture” and Cecilia “switches dresses three times before going down to dinner”. However this also presents them as materialistic in three different ways. Daisy is a woman in the 1920’s who has been given more rights; however she doesn't know what to do with them. She still feels as if she needs protection, and looking after, which is why she chose Tom over Jay Gatsby. Myrtle just wants affection. She looks for love in objects because she wants to feel that love. This is why she is seen to be so happy when Tom gets her a dog – which is nothing compared to daisy’s pearls, however is a symbol of a rich man’s love to her. Cecilia put her money into her clothes because her appearance is everything. She goes to college and comes back to amount to nothing, moping and smoking round the house. And so she chooses her dresses...
