...Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Ghandi are both two revoutionaly men. Racism was and is a problem in todays and yesterdays culture. These men fought for equal rights of all men and women, no matter the color or origin. This paper will compare the two men not competitivly but as a "based on the facts" comparison. Both men tried to stop the violence and racial hatred by using non-violence techniques. Ghandi has been known for fasting. Fasting means stopping eating intill his request is acknologed and completed. Ghandi fasted during riots and qould not stop intill he had proof that all violence had stopped. The only reason that this worked so well for him is because he was so respected in his socity. Mandela never fasted for his purpose, he found other ways of controlling his followers. Both of the men used rallys as their main campain gathering technique. These public events often ended in somekind of non-violent protesting. Prison is one of the many things that these men have in common, both of them served many years. Nelson Mandela served 27 years in his prison, the full sentence he had been given. Ghandi did not only go to prison once, but many times, he had served his several sentences in South Africa and India. Many times these charges that they were held upon were a law that would pass just to prosicute Ghandi or Mandela to lock them up. Both Mandela and Ghandi started as laywers, then moved into the field of being a active political member, in Mandela's case this was the...

...Though many sources have stated that religious concurrence betters the social resources of an individual, no hard evidence has been found to prove this. Ties to social engagement, however, can be found through many religions. Many religious groups view charitable activity such as the giving of alms, and helping those who suffer as something they are obligated to do in order to satisfy their faith, and uphold the principles that go along with it. Some of the most prominent social and political activists of our time were motivated by their faith, and their own interpretations of the sacred doctrine of their Religion. Not so coincidental, many hospitals, social service agencies, and clinics can trace the roots of their foundation back to religious tradition. Religion is not easily defined. Karl Marx once said “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature. The heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people.” According to Marx, it is by the circulation of false beliefs that religion allows the downtrodden and unfortunate to accept their lot. That statement cannot be proven true or false. What history tells us is Religion can be a powerful force for change that challenges not only social systems but political as well. Desmond Tutu, former Archbishop of the Anglican Church of South Africa, was driven by his religious commitments to take a stand against apartheid...

...Emerging Leadership Theories Analysis: Servant Leadership I sometimes wonder whether Robert Greenleaf, originator of the term “servant leadership” had any idea of the extent of the impact that his seemingly oxymoronic concept would have decades after he introduced it. He was the first to recognize it as a managerial model of leadership, where the highest priority needs of the follower are being served by the servant who is the leader (Greenleaf Center, 2008). This theory is one that is exemplified by the teachings of Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:43 NIV, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” According to Dierendonck, (2011). one of the attributes of the servant leader is humility. It is an attitude by the servant leader that acknowledges that workers may have more knowledge and experience than they may. I have found that when people are approached in humility, whether in a workplace or community setting, the results are very interesting. People begin to empathize with management and an environment of trust and value emerges. This goes hand in hand with an environment where learning occurs in a give and take manner. I worked in a department where no one, except the executives had been there longer than a few years. Although I was not a manager, I emerged as servant leader by being humble and willing to help other workers attain the knowledge...

...believe capitalism can be used as a very effective and productive tool but it must be used with caution for it can be very deadly. Capitalism has the power to eradicate poverty and at the same time has the power to destroy humanity within a blink of an eye. It is therefore a wise leader who will see the need for the inclusive capitalism as opposed to the real-world capitalist system. One of the greatest businessmen of the world, Bill Gates once said; "You know, Capitalism is this wonderful thing that motivates people, it causes wonderful inventories to be done. But in this area of disease of the world at large ,it has really let us down." -(www.brainyqoutes.com) While agreeing to this, Mahatma Ghandi said; "Capitalist as such is not evil; it is its wrong use that is evil"-[Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi (1869-1948)] REAL WORLD CAPITALISM VS INCLUSIVE CAPITALISM While an inclusive and desirable economy will strive to keep all the stakeholders happy and satisfied, the real world capitalism shall have inequality, waste, starvation, undemocratic, war and dictatorship just to mention a few. The inclusive capitalism economy will try to make the employees comfortable and will likely use the people-oriented leadership style are the democratic leadership style just to ensure its employees are free to voice out their opinions unlike in the real-world where the voice of the poor in oppressed. The real world economy is follows a marxist paradigm very cruel to the poor for their voice is...

...confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” -Eleanor Roosevelt The Bhagavad Gita has been estimated to have been in existence since about 500 BCE although the oldest known handwritten copy is in a museum in London and is dated to 1488. It predates the Bible, the Quran, and 50 Shades of Grey. As one of the oldest pieces of literature known to us it has gained a reputation as one of the most insightful tomes into the human condition and it’s philosophies and themes have influenced many of the most historically significant people and their actions. Mahatma Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, Henry David Thoreau, and even Albert Einstein all read the Gita and were deeply moved by it. These are not normal run of the mill people, but were great thinkers, people of action and world-changers. Surely, the world has been influenced by such a powerful text through the many people it has inspired and taught with it’s central themes of Yoga and Renunciation, and Dharma and Karma among others. Here we will take a look at some of the major themes of the Gita as well as some of the historically significant figures it has influenced and why and how it shares similar themes with key works of literature. The book is basically a one on one philosophical conversation between a god and a human. Reading the first chapter...

...Throughout history there have been leaders and famous people for that matter that have been looked at as leaders. A leader is someone who people choose to follow and influences others to do things that they may not otherwise do. Ideally one would expect the effective leader to be a person of integrity. But is that really always the case? There are five different leadership styles that would apply to leaders of yesterday as well as today. The first theory would be the trait theory. An example of a leader that falls into the trait theory would be motivational speaker Tony Robins, because he has charisma. The attributes that give off his persona of charisma is his magnetic personality, paired with superb communication skills. His approach to this is pulling people in with his smile. When he takes the floor, people listen. He proves to have the magnetic personality as he speaks people attract to him as if they were metal being drawn to the magnet. Of the five leadership styles, the trait theory is more salient for Tony Robbins because with the charisma the he exudes it does not matter. For example the type of behavior he presents good or bad for that matter gets over looked once he begins to speak. He takes on the Autocratic approach as what he “preaches” is the belief that he expects his listeners to take on. That is the right way and the only way it should be done. Ronald Reagan “the people’s president,” would be an example of the contingency theory. He would be categorized...

...The People vs. Martin Shkreli The People vs. Martin Shkreli In August of 2015, Martin Shkreli, the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, purchased the rights of a 62 year old drug , called Daraprim, that has been used for treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS, among other diseases. The Daraprim pill, which costs approximately $1.00 to make, was being sold for $13.50; however, soon after Shkreli purchased the rights to the drug, the pill went from $13.50 to $750.00 per pill, a 5,500% increase (Mclaughlin,2015). Martin Shkreli's explanations did not satisfy the public, hurting the credibility of not only himself but also of Turing Pharmaceuticals. People were outraged worldwide and the media had a feast , so much that it is safe to say that Shkreli was one of the most hated persons in 2015. Shkreli's explanations to the community and media for raising the price of Daraprim so high included, but were not limited to, the following statements: * We are not greedy, we are just trying to stay in business * The raise will go towards the improvement of Daraprim and the development of new drugs * The proceeds will go towards research and awareness (Mclaughlin, 2015). On an interesting note, John Carroll, the Fierce Biotech editor, was one of the firsts to be able to ask Shkreli about the raise on Daraprim. Shkreli's first answer was that it was a great business decision that also benefited all the stakeholders....

...As Mahatma Ghandi once said, “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” Saki uses the theme to this quote in his short story, “The Interlopers”. Saki’s use of foreshadowing, symbolism, and his omniscience to illustrate why you should always forgive those who trespass you. Foreshadowing is when the author indicates what is going to happen next in the story. Saki does an excellent job in the scene where Georg and Ulrich are stuck under the tree calling for help. While crying out for help, they see a figure emerging from the hillside where they came down. They each ask each other if that was their men coming to rescue them from the tree, which had fallen on them shortly in the beginning of the story. “I can see...
