...his paper will examine the topic of heroism in Stanley Kubrick’s films Paths Of Glory and Full Metal Jacket by comparing the visual styles and narrative structures and offer insight into Kubrick’s views on war. Paths Of Glory is a 1957 film based on the First World War focusing on the political struggles of the French army as they battle the German army. It is a study of the bravery and cowardice that exists within the ranks of the army, as well as the results of extreme amounts of fear. The focus is primarily in the barracks and the court. The plot focuses on a group of soldiers who are charged with cowardice. No man is perfect, but war magnifies qualities such as honour and deceit, and this film illustrates this phenomena in a very clean, proper way. Paths Of Glory does not show actual combat very much, unlike Full Metal Jacket. Full Metal Jacket is a study of what becomes of a soldier at war. Set in the Vietnam War, it begins with a focus on the training of a platoon of U.S. marines and continues to follow the service of Private Joker in his experiences in Vietnam as he goes about his service. Full Metal Jacket is a well paced film that studies the violence of war, portraying the physical as well as the mental dangers in a hyper realistic way. One overarching element that ultimately combines both of these films is their emotional poignancy. Both are highly engaging, yet thoroughly disturbing films. These are two demonstrations against war, revealing the subject in an...

...Kate Miller NTR 260 The foods we eat on a daily basis give our bodies the energy it needs for basic development and function. Micronutrients are essentially just vitamins and minerals, and are necessary to help aid in this development. Almost all foods provide us with some level of micronutrients. Vitamins C and D can be found in citrus fruits and broccoli, while iron is found in leafy greens and legumes. Vitamin A can be found in yellow fruits and vegetables. On any given day I probably eat and average of 1-1.5 cups or servings of fruit and 1 cup of vegetables. Myplate suggests 1.5 cups of fruit and 2.5 cups of vegetables daily for someone my age. I didn’t realize how badly I measured against the suggested servings until I tallied what I eat during a given week. I try to eat an apple every day at work or on the way home from night class as a way to avoid unhealthy snacking. I also get some applesauce in with a few meals every week. This time of year I definitely don’t eat as much as I do during the summer, when I can just go outside to where the blueberries or strawberries are growing and just eat until I’m full. I don’t crave fruits and vegetables during winter they way I do in the summer. I will definitely be looking for more ways to incorporate both into my day, as I’m sure it would greatly improve my energy levels for my long work days. I probably only get a half cup of vegetables in during the work day, if I snack on carrots, and another serving at dinner if I make...

...Geog 140 10/27/2015 Group 11 Ethnic Restaurant I have been always want to try different Ethnic fooda, because I believe that trying different foods can always be a great advanture to me. To me, Korean food is very unique .But my expeience with Korean food was rare. So I Google lincoln’s best korean restaurant, and then I found Yami Korean Cuisine. It was like 15 minuntes drive distance from campus, which was not too bad. I have friend who recommend this place to me before, she said the Galbi Short Ribs are really good. I ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap, which is a bibimbap prepared in sizzing hot stone bowl. On the menu, it introduced that bibimbap is “steamed rice with beef, sauted mushroom, spinach, carrot, zucchini, bean sprouts, and onion. Topped with fried egg and served with hot pepper sauce. ”. I did not like the flavor of carrot so I asked a Dolsot Bibimbap without carrot in it. The dish got different colors from the vegetables and meat, which made it looked really nice. The waitress told me stird all the ingredients together, so it is basiclly like a korean mixed rice. The Dolsot, which is the hot stone pot, keeps cooking the rice even after the dish was served. I thought it was interesting and new to me. In Chinese food, we have the dishes called Xiang Guo, which is a hot pot has fire under it to keeps on cooking while serving. But in Korean food, they made the Dolsot very hot and use the heat from the pot itself to cook. So always be careful with it...

Another cool new trend is hotel bars designing new tasty cocktails that incorporate food with alcohol. They incorporate there native cultures onto their menus to create exotic local dishes. Such as Fusion Bar & Restaurant, the signature restaurant at Gallery Hotel in Florence serves up a Miso Bull cocktail that features Stoli Vodka and schochu stirred with miso soup and seasoned with Bloody Mary dressing. Along with the upgraded drinks, spas around the world are now adding local and organic elements into their treatments for a fresh spin on pampering. These spas are adding treatments that involve gold, diamonds and other precious metals. Generic flow aromas are out! The new big thing luxury hotels are getting into is partnering with local scent companies to choose unique aromas that embody the spirit...

...Although often forgotten, the Winter War remains as one of the finest examples, in modern history, of a small defending force successfully warding off a noticeably larger attacking force. While pitily left to itself, the Winter War has undoubtedly set up the groundwork for all future conflicts involving “bush fight” warfare, commonly referred to as “guerrilla tactics”. Apart from that Political warfare, one of the key aspects of any war, was polished to its present-day state. Political warfare has many names, most common being Psychological Warfare, Psy Ops, MISO, Psy Ops and the most sounding being Propaganda. Without the Winter War, today’s fighting techniques would have been fundamentally different. According to different sources, the...
