Introduction: Successful multicultural congregations must be willing to subjugate their culture and language to a biblical standard in order to meet the spiritual needs of the younger generations.
Multiethnic and Multigenerational churches face enormous challenges in America. Non-dominant-group (meaning non-Anglo) churches struggle with external challenges of language, cultural differences, discrimination, marginalization and socioeconomic differences. These external challenges of non-English immigrants are difficult to overcome, but one of the greatest threats facing these groups is the internal conflict of language preference within the families. In light of these challenges, Non-English church congregations must be willing to subjugate …show more content…
b. The apostles in Antioch
The congregation must submit to the mandate of Scripture as seen in the Great Commission and also as demonstrated by the apostles in Antioch. The apostles faced a challenge as they experienced tremendous growth in the early church. During these early days, Paul and Barnabas were called by the church in Antioch to expand the reach of the Gospel (Acts 13:2).
Van Sanders with the North American Mission Board offers this insight.
“Eventually, Paul and Barnabas encounter non-Hebrew people who have no Old Testament understanding of God…[they] learn quickly that Gentile pagans, the ta ethne [all nations] of God’s mission mandate, have difficult cultural and linguistic barriers between them and their gospel message…the missionary team structure introduced at Antioch is God’s patter for moving the gospel between population groups that are culturally distinct and distant from each …show more content…
In the early years of developing Mosaic, a multiethnic church in Arkansas, Pastor Mark Deymaz realized the importance of taking deliberate steps to address these challenges. Because they were concerned about the language differences, they sought “integrated” solutions. Once such solution was the considerable financial investment in simultaneous translation equipment. They also printed their publications in multiple languages, sang worships songs in multiple languages and were inclusive of the various language groups in the leadership of the services. Along the way, Deymaz discovered one vital

Tomorrow's Human Resources Management

...enough to capture the opportunities in emerging trends? Much of the work addressing this issue has defined the future of HR in terms of competencies, workforce demographics, or professional techniques or practices. Here we take a different departure point by starting with prominent emerging general trends and examining their potential effect on HR, now and in the future, and HR’s desired and actual role in addressing them. What we found was that while HR leaders generally feel their ideal role is one of broad leadership, their assessment of the current role often is far less than that. Our research at the Center for Effective Organizations was conducted with a consortium of 11 large companies: Citrix Systems Inc.; Electronic Arts Inc.; Gap Inc.; Lockheed Martin Corp.; Mattel Inc.; Rockwell Automation; Royal Bank of Canada; Sony Pictures Entertainment; Unilever; UPS Inc.; and The Walt Disney Co. Twenty to 30 HR professionals within each company participated in the consortium. We examined the trends of globalization, generational diversity, sustainability, social media, personal technology, mass customization, open innovation, big data and gamification. Beyond Tradition: Reach Out, Venture Out, Seek Out, Break Out Our findings suggest that human resources can make great progress by simply allocating more time, budget and expertise to the emerging trends that have the greatest potential effect on organizations. However, at a larger level, lasting change will require fundamentally...

Workforce Planning Case Study

...Summary: Workforce planning is a critical element within a human resources strategy to ensure that an organization has the workforce to meet the challenges of today and to build for the challenges of tomorrow. Changing demographics and increased competition for qualified employees makes workforce planning critically important to the future of any organization. The development of a workforce plan requires an analysis of the companies positions; a review of present workforce competencies; an identification of skill requirements needed in the future; a comparison of present workforce needs to identify gaps and surpluses; strategic plans for building the workforce needed in the future; review and an evaluation process. It enables an organization to adjust and respond quickly to immediate and future changes to its business requirements. In its simplest terms, workforce planning is the process of ensuring the “right people are in the right place at the right time” to accomplish the mission and goals of the organization. The objective of this five (5) year workforce analysis is to determine the sample company's (ASC) present and future human capital needs, in order to achieve its strategic business goals set out below. What Motivates Millenials

...Christina Lee Analysis of Business Issues The George Washington University October 13, 2015 There are many organizations in the world today that are composed of four generations of employees with an age range spanning more than 60 years. Each generation is a distinct group, including the Silent Generation (1925-1942), Baby Boomers (1943-1960), Generation X (1961-1981), and Generation Y or Millennials, (1982-2005). These dates are given by Strauss and Howe (1991) to define each generational cohort. Each of the generational cohort brings varying beliefs, work ethics, values, attitudes, and expectations with it to an organization (Niemiec, 2000). Generation Y is the most recent and potentially largest generation to enter the workforce. Generation Y’s have a drastically different outlook on what they expect from their employment experience. Generation Y’s are well educated, skilled in technology, very self-confident, able to multi-task, and have plenty of energy. They have high expectations for themselves, and prefer to work in teams, rather than as individuals. Generation Y’s seek challenges, yet work life balance is of utmost importance to them. They do, however, realize that their need for social interaction, immediate results in their work, and desire for speedy advancement may be seen as weaknesses by older colleagues. In order to establish whether or not Generation Y is motivated by the same elements as the generations before them, we will compare what motivates...

This means that marketers need to understand the six U.S. generations: Pre-Depression Generation, Depression Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z. When a marketer factors in the different characteristics and behaviors of the generations, it should be easier to build relationships, gain trust, and close business. [2, 3] As such, an understanding of multigenerational marketing is very important to the marketer. The purpose of this paper is to describe briefly the U.S. generations in terms of the times in which they grew up as well as the characteristics, lifestyles, and attitudes of the group. However, the primary focus of the paper is to describe various marketing understandings and strategies appropriate to each generation’s characteristics and behaviors, particularly in terms of segmentation, products and services, and communication. Generational Differences in the Workplace

...Ambition, Altruism, Affiliation and Anxiety in the workplace: A review of generational differences in work attitudes. Madeleine Fogarty Melbourne University Abstract Popular books and articles claim that there are significant differences between the generations in attitudes to work. However, there are relatively few empirical studies that support this claim. This review examines the reasons for the dearth of empirical work, reports on the US and Australasian findings published in the past decade, and suggests a taxonomy of ambition, altruism, affiliation and anxiety to synthesise the diversity of previous research and reach a coherent conclusion: all are on the rise for Gen Y. Directions for future research and recommendations for organisations are discussed. News articles regularly demand that we pay attention to the different needs of the next generation and their attitudes towards work. Last week the Sydney Morning Herald claimed that “Generation Y . . . has high expectations of their employers, seek out new challenges, are not afraid to question authority, value teamwork, seek the affirmation of others, crave attention and want to be included and involved” (Zavos, 2010). Other stereotypes of Gen Y, including Myers & Sadaghiani (2010), pitch them as self-centred, unmotivated, disrespectful and disloyal. There have been many articles and books in “popular literature” that describe differences between the generations, including Strauss & Howe (1991),...

Managing Gen Y

...Introduction Persons that are born between 1980 and 1994 are classified as generation Y. They are latest members to join a multigenerational workforce, in fact they are the newest and the last members of the workforce. “Generation Y are likely to have high expectations of personal and financial success, feel that hard work pays off, and have a get-it-done result-producing attitude” (Breaux 2003,p52). Managers all over the world have been struggling with the challenge of attracting, managing and retaining Gen Y workers. Gen Y have different values and expectation of the companies they for compared to previous generations. Companies must learn how to manage Generation Y workers and cater to their needs if they want to retain Gen Y works. "Generation Y'ers are like X'ers on steroids. They are the most high-maintenance generation to ever enter the work force" (Breaux 2009,p95). As Gen Y has already started to enter the work force companies cannot afford to ignore the wants and need of Gen Y. Gen Y is just as big in numbers and will keep entering into the workforce at a rapid rate. The companies that don’t figure out how to attract and retain the growing Gen Y workers are likely to find themselves at a distinct disadvantage. After all, Generation Y is the next generation of workers who will ultimately be managing companies and determine if businesses succeed or fail. ...Capitalizing on Complexity Insights from the Global Chief Executive Officer Study This study is based on face-to-face conversations with more than 1,500 chief executive officers worldwide. Samuel J. Palmisano Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer IBM Corporation Letter from the Chairman 3 A note to fellow CEOs In the first chapter of this report on dealing with complexity, the CEO of an industrial products company calls the economic environment of 2009 “a wake-up call.” I agree. I’d only add that it was just the latest in a series of alerts that sounded during the first decade of this new century. In a very short time, we’ve become aware of global climate change; of the geopolitical issues surrounding energy and water supplies; of the vulnerabilities of supply chains for food, medicine and even talent; and of sobering threats to global security. The common denominator? The realities — and challenges — of global integration. We occupy a world that is connected on multiple dimensions, and at a deep level — a global system of systems. That means, among other things, that it is subject to systems-level failures, which require systems-level thinking about the effectiveness of its physical and digital infrastructures. It is this unprecedented level of interconnection and interdependency that underpins the most important findings contained in this report. Inside this revealing view into the agendas of global business and public sector leaders, three widely...
