...By contributing in the Senior Project, I have learned more about my topic and myself. Since I was very young, I have always dreamed of getting married. Just the thought of matrimony made me giddy inside. Around the age of four, I was always the flower girl at all of my relatives’ weddings. Over the years, I had discovered that children, in some third-world countries, can be forced into marriage against their will. Even though I love the concept of marriage, I would never had been ready for that kind of commitment at such a young age. I have learned that I am so privileged, and I should be grateful for many instances in my life. I could have been forced into marriage, however I am able to say that I can dream about matrimony in the future. Throughout my high school career, I have made a long-lasting impact on myself. I have learned more about myself in the last four years than I did in my entire lifetime. Since freshman year, I have always desired to obtain a 4.0 grade point average or higher by my senior year. I can proudly say that I have reached this goal successfully. When...

...Description of the “project” you hope to accomplish in the senior year (500 words or less): As a certified reiki I practitioner, I am interested in exploring perceptions of reiki therapy in end-of-life care amongst nursing students. Some people do not believe reiki to be an effective form of therapy, or may not even know what reiki is to begin with. I am curious to research how much nursing students know about reiki and to what extent they believe it is effective in end-of-life care. Caring for patients at the end of life is a special kind of nursing, as nursing skills and priorities may contrast from those regularly seen in typical medical-surgical settings. Reiki helps people and animals transition from their bodies with grace and ease....

...the importance of scholarly work nor how to find it. The only time I was assigned a major research project was in my senior year of high school. I went to one of the specialty schools in the Richmond Public Schools system. Two of the requirements for graduation was the freshman paper and the senior thesis. Looking back, I remember how hard I was struggling in completing my freshmen paper. It was about the effects of the pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. The 10 page paper required extensive research with 350 flashcards, 3 drafts, and a class trip to the Chesapeake Bay at the end of...

...I would categorize my senior year as one of wild progression when it came to my writing. Senior year mirrors my sophomore year almost exactly when it comes to just pure progression. In that sophomore year, I greatly improved in an area that had irked me for years, the organization of content, and I grew in other critical areas throughout the course of this year. While I would consider my writing far more refined than it was in 10th grade, there are still multiple core elements that I always work to improve. The first few journals last semester echoed the thoughts of a teen who refused to take risks in his writing, who couldn’t be told his faults without a fear of personal attack. Last year the majority of my writing was for AP courses, and...

...As I approached my senior year and began to schedule classes, I was already confident of my desired career path: I wanted to be a pastor. My future goals led me to question the classes I had decided to take during my senior year. Surely I would not need to complete AP Calculus in order to acquire a degree in Christian Ministries. I considered scheduling an easier math class to fulfill the minimum requirements for the Academic Honors Diploma; however, after thoughtfully considering my choices, I decided to take Calculus. But why? Why would I decide to take a three-trimester class that I did not even need for my desired major? The answer is fairly simple, and it lies within the traits I have displayed throughout my life: I love learning, I am self-motivated, and I believe the pursuit of knowledge is a paramount part of God's plan for my life. These aspects will continue to motivate me to succeed in my studies as a "free will" student....

...and to build ShARE brand at IIM Indore. I believe that my reading habit, three years of work experience and the positions I have held in the past have endowed me with intellectual and managerial abilities necessary to manage an organization like ShARE well. I have led various student bodies in varying capacities in the past - General Secretary of NITK Students’ Union, Financial Coordinator of SPICMACAY Mangalore Chapter, and Convener of NITK 2009 Yearbook committee to name a few. I was also the only person in my batch to be elected to the NITK Students’ Union three years in a row, which is a testimony to my ability to elicit trust among my colleagues. Having worked in the analytics consulting industry for three years, I am quite good at making structured presentations and quantitative analysis. The job also gave me some exposure to Pharma and Retail sectors. I was rated among the top analysts at both my previous companies (Mu Sigma, Tesco) and was also appreciated for conducting excel training workshops, mentoring new hires and handling client communication well. I also read a lot of books on a wide range of topics – business, biographies, philosophy etc. My intellectual rigor is also evident from my ShARE junior presentation itself – both in terms of the originality of the idea and the thoroughness of my research. (I researched more than 50 papers to prepare 10 slides). These skills and knowledge lend credence to my presidential candidature. There is a lot of...

...Lake Erie CollegeMBA 534 – Organizational Behavior Summer 2013 | “Troubling Topic, Tremendous Return” | “Incorporating Organizational Behavior Concepts in the Workplace to Improve the Business” | | | 6/26/2013 | | Bob Givens Component 1 - Issue The Accounts Payable department within any organization is an extremely important player throughout the entire company. The saying, “You have to spend money to make money” is spot on; especially for a manufacturing company. Whether it’s ordering raw materials, paying for electricity, travel expenses and of course payroll, are all examples of common payables for most companies. In order to maintain good vendor relations, the Accounts Payable department needs to maintain accurate records and provide payments to all vendors in accordance to the predetermined payment terms. Failure to pay promptly within the vendor’s terms will result in the inability to order from the vendor that has the material you need in order to fulfill your customer’s order which could very well result in a lost sale and or customer. The point is that having an efficient accounts payable department is an integral part of everyday business and having good policies and procedures, organization and best practices can actually save a company’s money. Having previously worked in a manufacturing company as an accounts payable coordinator, I have the knowledge of what the position entails. The accounts payable department where I currently work...

...The Problem-Based-Learning Project that I completed in this class was my favorite project that i’ve done in my school career thus far. This assignment had a perfect balance of professionalism, structure, and fun. I was allowed to choose a topic I was passionate about and apply everything that I have learned from all of my English and Science teachers. I believe kids, especially students, tend to do better on projects or even tests when they enjoy the topic. We are also able to stay on task and take initiative. Not only did I learn learn new things when researching my topic, I also got to share what I learned with my peers. Completing this project taught me about myself, what interests me, and what environment I enjoy working in. Overall, I enjoyed my PBL experience. As always, there were positive and negative moments. My favorite moments were ones where everything fell into place. Once we picked our topic, it was easy for us to work together. My work ethic and drive also made my experience better. If I would not have been on top of my work, this project would have been torture. On the other hand, the negative moments were pretty rough. While doing this project I often found myself frustrated, both with myself and my group. At certain times, continuing this project and working with my partners seemed pointless. Honestly, there were more challenges of learning in this...

...Shayla Tracey Shayla Tracey Comm215  HOW TAXES BY THE STATE AFFECTS THE LIFE OF SENIORS IN MY COMMUNITY I live in Mount Vernon Illinois and I reside with both my grandparents. They are now retired from years of active professional service and now they live on the retirement benefits they get. They chose to live in this state because they felt this was the best place for them to manage their cost of living. The state of Illinois is one of the best states to accommodate senior citizens since they have tax systems that are aimed towards having the senior’s enjoy their retirement benefits. Many people planning to retire use the presence or absence of a state income tax as a test for a retirement destination. This is a serious miscalculation since higher sales and property taxes can more than offset the lack of a state income tax. The lack of a state income tax doesn’t necessarily ensure a low total tax burden. Illinois is one of the states that exempts seniors from pension income taxation but only if while working they were professionals. My granddad used to be a truck driver for a water packaging company where else my grandma used to work as a supervisor in a bakery. These are jobs that are considered professional and as such, my grandparent’s exemption from taxation of their pension comes in handy as it will allow them to boost their financial flexibility with the money they receive. On matters of taxation on the social security income, the state of Illinois does not...

So you can never be too sure of what comes your way during the placements. PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE - I started my placement journey by getting shortlisted in Capital One on Day 1. They shortlisted 125 candidates on the basis of resume. Then they took a case study interview and reduced the number to 30. Then again took an aptitude test but finally didn’t give offer to anyone. - Then came Coca Cola on Day 2. They organised GD in the groups of ten each and then there was a single interview of about half an hour which mainly consisted of HR based questions. The topic of the GD was “Are Engineering students wasting time in studies ?”. The interview mainly focussed on the commitment to work with them and asked whether I did any activity depicting leadership skills. - Coca Cola shortlisted candidates with medium profile like moderate CPI with few extracurrecs. ...the students will have to compensate all the suspensions with make-up classes to complete the 201 calendar year imposed by DepEd. School division superintendents will be the one to decide what type of make-up classes will they implement. It’s either make-up classes that will fall during weekends, or by simply extending the class hours during weekdays. These make-up classes are effective for both public and private schools. • It is interesting because I can relate to the topic. As a college student, I am personally involved and concerned with the issue and it has a direct effect on me. • I don’t have any negative reaction on this issue since It’s caused by natural calamities and no one wants it to happen, so make-up classes is a good alternative. I think same goes for college students like us. It’s just right to have make-up classes because we’re paying a big amount of money and we will just get nothing in return? So those 3 days is a huge loss for us and we need to take them back through these make-up classes. My other concern is the late declaration of class suspension last week. 7 in the morning is the usual start of classes, so it is expected that students are already at school before that given time, and then all of a sudden they will suspend the class by 9am? What I’m trying to point out here is that, students wake up early in the morning just to go to school, and the parents will give snacks or money as...
