Implementing a remote access to the organizations computers while keeping it secure via firewalls and VPN server will ensure protection from outside intruders. I recommend that you install a VPN server as well as Remote access security. One firewall with Network Address Translation (NAT) this will add to the security that will not be visible outside of the organization and another firewall without NAT which will be visible outside of the organization.
