...nursing metaparadigm involves four core concepts: nursing, health, person and environment. However, as the discipline is constantly evolving, a more adaptable viewpoint may better encompass the various aspects of the metaparadigm. This essay will be comparing and contrasting the core concepts of nursing that are seen in two different articles; one that conforms to the more traditional metaparadigm concepts and a second which has a more open point of view. After careful examination and comparison of the key concepts in both articles, I will be discussing how they fit into my own nursing practice. Fawcett’s article, which analysed a research study on the implementation of evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP), encompasses all four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm. This approach to the examination of the nursing metaparadigm has a specific focus on nursing and the environment. The study aims to change the environment of nursing care by encouraging nursing directors and executives to disseminate information and training revolving around evidence-based nursing practice to nurses. The underlying goal is to streamline nursing care, improve patient outcomes, and lessen redundancies and workplace frustration. In comparison, Newman’s article has a broader scope of focus using the unitary-transformative paradigm. The aim of this article is to examine the progress made in the development and growth of the field of nursing, using the seven core concepts: caring, health, consciousness, mutual...

...What concepts or ideas from the chapter are illustrated in this article? There are numerous concepts illustrated in this article from Chapter 1. First things first, the article goes into detail about the internal as well as external factors about the NY Times as whole (i.e. the transition from physical to digital news), and provides an analysis for the reasoning behind that from Chief Executive Mark Thompson. In addition, the NY Times has strengths that are pointed out, as far as revenue growth in addition to just recently reaching 1 million digital subscribers; something that no other new company can claim. This international audience relates to the theory of globalization. Lastly, but certainly not least, this article explains about strategy being a “roller coaster.” Chapter explains how strategy is a constant work in progress, which is something the NY Times is currently undergoing. 2) For one of the concepts or ideas you identify, explain how the article serves as an illustration. For example, the article states, “the international audience is the richest target growth for digital subscription growth.” This is the perfect example of how the NY Times is identifying a target, or sector, within the audience and intentionally pursuing this target. Currently, 13 percent of the digital subscription audience is international, and they are intending to “further attract” this global crowd. 3) What question(s) about the application of this particular concept or idea...

...Canada Hits Milestone with Gender Parity The article “Canada Hits Milestone with Gender Parity” issued on November 5th, 2015 in The Globe and Mail by Jane Taber, discusses gender, race/ethnicity. This article reminds me of sociological concepts in the textbook “Seeing Ourselves” of Gender in chapter 32 and Race and Ethnicity in chapter 34. Also, the theme I can relate to is groups and organization because it discusses the different gender and race/ethnicity in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet. In this article Justin Trudeau kept his promise for a gender parity parliament. Fifteen women were put in a position of Trudeau’s cabinet. Canada is now one of five nations to have gender parity in government at the federal level. The article identifies...

...Article Review on: Toward Culture Intelligence: Turning Cultural Differences into a Workplace Advantage. The article under review is entitled as "Toward Culture Intelligence: Turning Cultural Differences into a Workplace Advantage." by Earley, P. Christopher, and Elaine Mosakowski. This article has been acquired from the journal, Academy of Management Perspective, Volume 18, Issue No. 3 and was published on August 1, 2004. The article attempts to explain the traditional approaches that were used in understanding and explaining the differences among people who belonged to diverse backgrounds and have a different culture. It then focuses on the recent development of a newer approach that is cultural intelligence, its framework and different managerial profiles that can be helpful for competing with other organizations in this era of diversity and globalization. The authors have described two traditional approaches in this article that were used to study cultural diversity. The first approach is, the aggregate approach, in which the researchers identify and ascertain the values and beliefs of people in a particular region or a country and then they associate those beliefs and values to those set of people. This approach is more generalized and therefore it does not account for the differences among individuals from the same cultural background. The second approach is, the individual approach, in which the researchers do not focus on the culture to which the individual belongs...

...my research paper of new technology in my field on Electronic Paper. Electronic paper is one of many new technologies that are being developed in today’s new technology world. Everything is getting smaller and lighter weight and more mobile. The concept behind electronic paper is sheets of thin material that are the size of a sheet of paper, which can display a newspaper article, a book, or magazine and then be updated to new material at the click of a button. Although it sounds like a lot of the e-reader device technologies that are already on the market now, the difference in this technology is that the paper will be lightweight, flexible and require a lot less power to operate then today’s modern devices. The main concept of the electronic paper is to have billions of balls, each measuring one-tenth of a millimeter and have them sandwiched between sheets of clear flexible plastic with ultra-thin transistors to direct the balls in to the words or pictures needed. Each of the two companies involved, Xerox Palo Alto Research Center on the West Coast of California, and on the East Coast is eInk found by a professor and two students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab, have their own different designs on how the balls will actually form the words or an image of what you are reading. As of now the electronic paper designs can only show black and white, although both companies are working on ides for color. As of the date of this article, March 2002, it said that...

In the article “Design- Oriented New Product Development: LG Illustrates What It Takes To Be Successful” the authors suggest that the two approaches in reflecting a customer’s point of view in new product development (NPD) are customer-following approach and customer-leading approach. The theme of the article revolves around identifying the dynamic evolutionary process and key success factors of design oriented NPD for the case of LG Electronics’ Chocolate Phone. ...Berkley, R. A., & Watson, G. (2009). The employer-employee relationship as a building block for ethics and corporate social responsibility. Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal, 21(4), 275-277. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10672-009-9124-4 This article emphasises on keeping up of a good employee-employer relationship as the important element of maintaining ethics and corporate social responsibility. Employee as one of the inevitable factors of organisation should be considered as the most important stakeholder of business. Restrictive approaches towards employee will badly affect the organisation and the organisation may not be successful towards external stake holders like society as its basic duty itself towards the employee is a failure. At the same time, the employee has to be concerned about his duty towards organisation and should try to fulfil it in union with the employer. In conclusion, employee and employer relationship is an unavoidable element to secure ethics and social responsibility of the firm. This article gives a bird’s eye view about the requirement of maintaining a good employee-employer relationship, although it does not deal with the topic in a wide manner. The article consists of some relevant examples to prove the writers’ arguments. But, it does not put forward relevant suggestions to make the point practical. In spite of that, the writers have won in ascertaining employee and employer relationship as the requirement of time to secure...

...Review of Management Articles Article assigned ANALYSING the thinking of F.W. Taylor using cognitive mapping Introduction Scientific management is one of the three major branches within the classical approach to management. Although the concept was suggested approximately a century ago, it still makes a significantly important role in 21st century management with new conditions and a considerable number of challenges. Frederick Winslow Taylor who was regarded as the father of scientific management suggested his concepts in 1911. Scientific management is defined as a theory that emphasises careful selection and training of workers, and supervisory support (Taylor, 1911). Taylor (1911) believed that precise procedures that were developed after careful study of an individual at work should replace the tradition on decision-making. The purpose of this essay is to review three articles that analyses the Taylorism and present how Taylorism is applied in current management sphere. Analysis of Assigned Article Cossette, P. 2002. Analysing the thinking of F.W. Taylor using cognitive mapping. Management Decision, 40 (2): 168-182 The author of this article used the cognitive map and the Decision Explorer to present and analyse the thinking of F.W.Taylor to produce a more in-depth and detailed knowledge and understanding of his ideas.
