It is already estimated that by year 2003 over 30% of online sales will be generated by online travel alone, including actual travel products as well as advertising earned by travel-oriented sites. The number of travelers who use the Internet for travel-related and other purposes tops 70 million, half of which consult the Internet to get information on destinations or to check prices and schedules (Travel Industry Association of America 1999). The number of travelers booking online has soared by more than 80 percent to 11 million in the last year (PhoCusWright 1999). Travel remains one of the most popular e-commerce categories, with 45 percent of online buyers saying they purchased travel online. This is outpaced only by books at 54 percent. Methods of analysis include quantitative secondary research using the geographic information system (GIS) SuperDemographics to examine key demographic data corresponding with Uniqlo’s primary and secondary target group. The use of qualitative formal studies including consumer traffic data from commercial shopping malls, a competitive environment analysis, as well as an online audit of websites containing relevant location information were also been employed. The research draws attention to the key demographics and psychographics of Uniqlo’s target groups as they compare with the demographic data collected from specified geographic locations within the GTA. Results of the data analyzed indicate that Uniqlo’s direct market share and target group competitors have positioned themselves in high traffic retail areas in close proximity to one another capitalizating on the traffic created in the competitive environment. These centralized shopping hubs reveal a correlation between mall patron statistics and the surrounding trade area population. It is the most important factor for rapid urbanization as well. Dhaka, the only megacity in Bangladesh, became a megacity having more than 10 million of population in 2001. Dhaka is the center of attraction of this region since 7th century and the development phase of this megacity can be categorized into five- Pre-mughal period, Mughal period, British period, Pakistan period and independent Bangladesh period. Although rural-urban migration plays the crucial most role to turn Dhaka from a city to megacity, it was not very significant during the first three period. With the partition of subcontinent Dhaka became the capital of independent Bangladesh and huge numbers of migrants start to step into this city. SCOTT The article begins with a brief definition of the cultural economy. A first generation of local economic development policy approaches based on place marketing and associated initiatives is described. The possibilities of a more powerful second-generation approach are then sketched out with special emphasis on localized complexes of cultural-products industries. An extensive review and classification of these complexes is laid out, and their inward and outward relations to global markets are considered. On this basis, a critical discussion of local economic policy options focused on cultural-products industries is offered. Contrasting examples of development initiatives in major global cities, in selected old manufacturing towns, and in the Multimedia Super Corridor of Malaysia are briefly presented. It is suggested that the growth and spread of localized production agglomerations based on cultural-products industries are leading not to cultural uniformity but to greatly increased diversity at the global level.
