Observation Essay: The Dixon Public Library In Southern California Area

The library I chose to conduct a walkabout is the Dixon Public Library. Dixon is a small city situated in the northern California area. The Dixon Public Library is located in the downtown portion of Dixon. Depending on where one lives, the library can be considered within walking distance, however most patrons that come here, use transportation.
When first entering downtown, there is this old time feel to it as if not much has changed. One can say that not much has changed from the building styles and the shops nearby. I consider this portion of Dixon to be downtown as there are many city/government related buildings within walking distance of the library. Some of these buildings include the police station, the post office, and a few blocks down, is city hall. There have been no sign of other ethnic groups at this time. At the front of the library, there is a small sign that announces the library’s weekly activities. Most of these activities are geared towards the younger generation. Some of these activities include story times for younger children, and summer reading marathons for middle school kids.
The smells I’ve encountered while being here, are a mixture of nature from the surrounding trees, and the aroma of food from the nearby bar and grills. The traffic on the street seems nonstop busy. I would consider the street in front of the library, one of the two main busiest streets in Dixon. The sounds seem more overwhelming from the traffic noises, and birds chirping from the tree.
