History of LSPU
This state institution (LSPU) started from its humble beginnings in 1952 ... it was first established as a provincial high school known as Baybay Provincial High School, the first public high school established in the shoreline (baybay) district of Laguna de Bay and the second in the whole Province of Laguna. Then in 1957, by virtue of Republic Act No. 1807 on June, 1957, the Baybay Provincial High School was converted into Baybay National Agricultural and Vocational School (BNAVS).
BNAVS became the PACD-BVE Training Center in rice production for American Peace Corps Volunteers. This center produced 682 graduates. The Manpower Training Center Started to operate in the school year 1968-1969. BNAVS also became the pilot school for the 2-year Agricultural Technician Curriculum, Associate in Agriculture. This started in December, 1969 with 8 enrollees.
With the passage/approval of HB 269 into law in June 1971: Republic Act No. 6321, it converted BNAVS into Baybay National College of Agriculture and Technology (BNCAT). BNCAT then was offering the following courses: 1) Secondary Agriculture Curriculum; 2) Two-year Associate in Agriculture (technical course); 3) degree courses leading to Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (2nd Semester 1975-76), and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education (First Semester 1977-78). The College was also one of the Experimental Agricultural High Schools (EAHS) selected by the Educational Development Projects Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) under Presidential Decree No. 6-A, to receive World Bank Aid in terms of infrastructure, equipment, and staff development.
This state institution was a grantee of the Agricultural Education Outreach Project (AEOP) from 1980 to 1983. AEOP was a research project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Research programs became more prioritized and government extension programs became more aggressive.
On June 10, 1983 by virtue of Batas Pambansa No. 482, BNCAT was further converted into a state college, known as the Laguna State Polytechnic College.
From then on the Laguna State Polytechnic College grew bigger and better, with the incumbency of Dr. Ricardo A. Wagan as the first College President in 1986, several projects and infrastructure developments poured in to LSPC. Among the remarkable accomplishments then were as follows: * In 1993, this state institution was designated by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) as one of the seven (7) Provincial Technical Institutes of Agriculture (PTIAs) in Region IV under the Aus-AID-AGRITECH Project aimed at improving the curriculum, instructional programs and the development of practical and applied researches. * It opened four (4) satellite campuses through Memoranda of Agreements with the local governments; and * It integrated the following three (3) CHED-Supervised Institutions in accordance with the Special Provision No. 2 of the CHED FY 1999 Budget under the General Appropriations Act of 1999 or Republic Act No. 8745 and Republic Act No. 8292 "Higher Education modernization Act of 1997", through the issuance of the following: 1. CHED Memorandum No. 18, s. 1999 entitled "Issuance of the Implementing Guidelines on the Integration of CHED-Supervised Institutions (CSIs) to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)". This integration formally took place on October 5 and 25, 1999, respectively, to wit: * Laguna College of Arts and Trades now LSPU-Sta. Cruz Campus located at Barangay Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna * Los Baños College of Fisheries now LSPU-Los Baños Campus located at Barangays Malinta, Los Baños, Laguna 2. CHED Memorandum Order No. 27, s. 2000 "Issuance of Implementing Guidelines of the Integration of CHED-Supervised Institions (CSIs) to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) - Phase II". The formal turn-over ceremony took place on December 11, 2000, to wit: * San Pablo City National School of Arts and Trades now LSPU-San Pablo City Campus located at Barangay Del Remedio, San Pablo City
His incumbency is marked by a list of distinctive accomplishment such as the establishment of a multi-campus State Institution; a remarkable increase in the number of non-degree and degree curricular programs/offerings which resulted in increased inrolment and need for more teachers; exempted Secondary School Teachers to be transferred to DECS per CHED-DECS joint circular, intensified rehabilitation, repair, face-lifting of old structures and construction of new academic, research, library, dormitory, canteen-cafeteria, sports and recreation facilities; opened the Graduate Studies and Applied Research in its four (4) Campuses; acquired state of the art equipment - e.g. Speech Lab., computers, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Laboratory equipment, the Tissue Culture Laboratory, HORTANOVA Green House, communication equipment, etc. He was instrumental in the opening of the Siniloan National High School in cooperation with Mr. Antonio Villanueva and the Sanguniang Bayan, among others, while the Siniloan National High School was just starting -- LSPC has shared with them their library, and two faculty members, among others, until they acquired their own library and faculty members.
Likewise, President Wagan opened doors to Asian neighbors through academic and cultural exchange and complementation programs. He has signed Memoranda of Agreements and Sisterhood Agreements with the following: Changwon College and Changwon High School, both from South Korea; Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, Socialist Republic of Vietnam where in he established the LSPC International Language Center located at Thai Nguyen University in Vietnam; a trifocal consortium with Akamai University, Hilo, Hawaii and EDS-Asia and the Pacific Advance Academy, Penang, Malaysia. Being the concurrent Regional Chairman of the PASUC-Regions IV A and B, he spearheaded and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the Jose Rizal-Jose Martin Friendship Society between the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges in Regions IV A and B and the Republic of Cuba.
Until finally, its conversion into a state university in 2007 by virtue of REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9402 "AN ACT CONVERTING THE LAGUNA STATE POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE IN THE PROVINCE OF LAGUNA INTO A STATE UNIVERSITY, TO BE KNOWN AS THE LAGUNA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY (LSPU), AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR" during the 13th Congress. It was the result of struggle in Congress thru House Bill No. 5953 (introduced by Laguna Representatives, namely: Hon. Benjamin C. Agarao, Jr., 4th District; Hon. Danton Q. Bueser, 3rd District of Laguna; Hon. Joaquin "Timmy" Chipeco, 2nd District; and Hon. Uliran Joaquin, 1st District.) and Senate Bill No. 293 when it received the Certificate of Urgency signed by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Thus, on February 8, 2007, Republic Act No. 9402 was approved in Congress. It was signed into law by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on March 22, 2007.
The law became effective on April 10, 2007, that was, fifteen (15) days after its publication in two newspapers of general circulation, e.g. Malaya, dated March 24, 2007 and the Daily Mirror on March 26, 2007. By operation of the new law, Dr. Ricardo A. Wagan received a new mandate as the first University President, and LSPU-Sta. Cruz Campus in Barangay Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna became the Main Campus.
After four years of transition period, the LSPU Board of Regents elected and appointed the second University Presiden on May 2, 2011 in the person of DR. NESTOR M. DE VERA, of LSPU-Siniloan (Host) Campus. He was the former Chief Administrative Officer of LSPU-Siniloan Campus, the former Vice-President for Academic Affairs, former Dean of the Graduate Studies and Applied Research, former Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, former Campus Director of LSPU-San Pablo City Campus and former Campus Director of LSPU-Siniloan Campus, among his several designations. Dr. Nestor M. De Vera bested among the four (4) contenders for LSPU Presidency. The fact that he was the only "insider" among the four applicants for LSPU Presidency has given him the advantage to start swiftly his duties and functions upon his assumption into office as LSPU President on May 3, 2011. He spearheaded the review of the Five Year Development Plan, 2007-2012 to determine the real position of LSPU, what it has achieved and what are those that needs to be done for another five years?
He works toward his vision to make LSPU as "Center of Development" transforming lives and communities through its new Strategic Development Plan, 2012-2017 anchored on its six (6) major initiatives, namely: 1. Comprehensive Student Welfare and Development Program 2. Community Relations Program 3. University Research and Development Program 4. Comprehensive Faculty and Staff Development Program 5. Organizational Development Program 6. Comprehensive Resource Generation and Management Program

PART I
INTRODUCTION
Training is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, and performance. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at institutes of technology (also known as technical colleges or polytechnics). In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or profession, observers of the labor-market [who?] recognize as of 2008 the need to continue training beyond initial qualifications: to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life. People within many professions and occupations may refer to this sort of training as professional development

ADVANTAGES OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
Advantages:
1. Low cost - does not require the development of potentially expensive training materials or classroom/computer-based instruction. 2. Task-based - Since OJT is performed at the work area, training tends to be focused on performing real job tasks. 3. Well suited for small groups - OJT is often the most practical training method when you only need to train one or two employees at a time.

DISADVANTAGES OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
Disadvantages:
1. Inconsistent - Traditional OJT relies heavily on an experienced employee to provide the instruction based on what they feel is the most important topics. What is important to one employee may not be important to another. The result is what is learned may vary greatly, depending on who is assigned as the trainer. 2. Incomplete - Without a structured lesson guide, OJT trainers often forget to cover important information. What is learned is likely to be based on what happened that day rather than on what a new employee needs to know to be safe and productive. 3. Lack of founding principles - While the hands-on aspect of OJT may appeal to the practical learner, often the underlying theories of operation are not covered in sufficient detail or accuracy. Without this foundation of knowledge, trainees often learn what to do, not why they are doing it, resulting in poor decision making when things don't go exactly right. 4. Bad habits - The trainee observes and may adopt the trainer's habits and attitudes about all aspects of the job including safety, quality, customer service, and relationship with management. Poorly selected trainers can have many unintended consequences.

ELEMENTS OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

ELEMENTS OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING 1. Determine if training is needed. You train because employees need to know certain activities to perform their job correctly or safely. Training should be design to reduce or eliminate deficiencies and to increase job performance. It should be considered for employees who are unfamiliar with equipment, lack knowledge of a work process, or have been performing task incorrectly. 2. Identify Goals and Objectives. The next step is to develop learning outcomes. These outcomes describe knowledge and task that participants must know or perform to reduce eliminate the deficiencies. When formulating learning outcomes, be sure to put them in concrete behavioral objectives terms that are observable and/or measurable. 3. Develop learning activities. From the learning objectives, the course developers design learning activities and course materials to fulfill them. Course materials should be formatted to ensure that learning occurs. This is accomplished by carefully considering the learning process while developing your training materials. This includes the development of workbooks, job aids, hand-out materials, the design and building of trainers, and any other materials required to deliver the course.

Part II
Narration
November 22, 2012 was the 1st day of OJT at Techno Park Hotel in Sta. Rosa Laguna. It was our pleasure to have an experience on actual training through a Hotel. They said it’s better for us to be in a Hotel for our first OJT than a restaurant. Our schedule was 1:00pm to 10:00pm. I was so excited to start working. And as we start, there are some guests requesting for something to drink like juice and water. When we don’t have a customer to serve, we checked the availability of the products one by one like coffee, sugar, cream, and other beverages then we gave the list to the stock holder to provide it. After that, Kuya Wally, the dishwasher, washed the plates, glasses and other utensils that the guests used in their meal. And then, we wiped it. After finishing the assigned chores, we still waited for incoming guests. It was almost 8 in the evening; some guests came to order beer, nuts and some appetizers. As the time goes by, it was almost past 10 in the evening, Ma’am Alma; our cashier oriented us to have the guests’ last order. And after that, the customers had billed out and it’s time for us to go home.

November 23, 2012 the 2nd day of OJT. I’m so excited to serve the guests again. We woke up early in the morning to assure that we won’t be late in our OJT. As we arrived at the hotel, Sir Gilbert, a waiter, taught us their daily operation in dining before we open it to guests and He had given us the schedule for the task that we had to comply with. After a while, some of the guests came to see the menu (called News Paper in the Dining Area). I greeted the guests with smile and took their orders. I brought the order slip to the cashier then to the kitchen. After 10 – 15 minutes the bell rang signaling that the food was ready to be served. And when the guests billed out and gone, I bass out the plates, glasses, and other utensils. Then I set up the table immediately to provide the cleanliness of the tables so that the next guests would enjoy the ambience. Time had passed until it’s time to go home.
November 24, 2012 was the 3rd day of OJT. Same with yesterday, nothing new had happened. We greeted the guests and staffs politely, served their orders properly, and answered their questions. Time had passed until it’s time to go home and take some rest.
November 25, 2012 the 4th day of OJT. A hectic day for us, there was a company event at the function hall. As always, we greeted the guests with joy and served them politely until the program had ended. After that, we fix the set – up and returned it in the stock room. After that, we returned at the main hall to serve the other guests and to finish the chores. A very tiring day but at least we’re done and take a weekend rest at our hometown.
November 29, 2012 the 5th day of OJT. We went at the Emerald Room, one of the function room in the hotel. We waited for the other trainee students to finish their duties. Reynaldo, Ricky and I went at the mini bar to take a rest. Then, we went to the stock room to wipe the washed dishes, glasses and other utensils. At 3 o’clock we took our snack. After eating, we get back and served the guests again. As the time passed by, the task for the day is well- done, we went home.
November 30, 2012 the 6th day of OJT. We started the day doing the same task. There’s no event. As always, we greeted the customers politely and served their order. We have this regular customer he always order beer, sprite and nuts. He is a foreigner; his name is Khaizer from Germany. It was already 11 in the evening, Ma’am Alma talked to me and she said that we can go home.
December 1, 2012 the 7th day of OJT. “A not toxic day” weekends was defined something like that because most of the guests prefer to go to their homelands for a visit. And for that we went home early.

December 2, 2012 the 8th day of OJT. . “A not toxic day” weekends was defined something like that because most of the guests prefer to go to their homelands for a visit. As well, a regular guest named Khaizer had arrived for a beer and billed out. And for that we went home early.
December 5, 2012 It was Wednesday we have a lot of customers in the dining area. We did our best for our customer’s satisfaction. It was already 1:30pm in the afternoon the customers had finished. In the evening, around 8:30pm we had served a Japanese customer. Sir Pado took the order. It was already 10pm, I cleaned the coffee brewer and we went to the locker room and went home.
December 6, 2012 The schedule was shuffled and I was assigned on a day shift slot 6am to 3pm. Many customers had arrived for their breakfast. I pour their cups with a hot coffee. Time passed we went home.
December 7, 2012 An OJT at the Paseo Premiere Hotel, a branch of Techno Park Hotel. There is a Coca- Cola Event and it was a huge event for us. We assisted at the buffet, bussed out the used utensils and served the guest properly. We gave our very best for the guest’s satisfaction. I gave my 100% alertness for the success of the task that they had given me. A very toxic yet fulfilling day.

December 8, 2012 Still having my OJT at Paseo Premiere Hotel. Another event to groove up, a wedding event with guests of a 100 pox, I was assigned at the buffet table assisting the guests on their food. I bussed out the used utensils and returned to help out. It was a wonderful but very tiring day.
December 9, 2012 the 14th day back in Techno Park Hotel. Night shift again. 6 days more and our OJT are about to finish. But the hotel needed more trainees, so Ricky, Jaymark, Clair, Rea and I have to be on duty for 2 days. The day has ended we went home.
December 12-13, 2012 The hotel has many events. In Grand hall, there’s a Debut; in Titanium hall there’s a Christmas Party. Jaymark, Ricky and I was assigned to the Titanium hall we went home by 2:30am. The next day was another toxic day but I didn’t mind I stayed focus on finishing my duty so that I’m cleared.
December 14-15, 2012 Another Christmas Party event and it was toxic again. We went home by 1am. The next day, another Birthday event I’m so tired. We want home by 3am.
December 16, 2012. Our schedule is 1pm to 10pm in the evening. Because it’s Sunday the customers are just limited. So we went home by 9:30pm.

December 20, 2012. This day is our last day in the Hotel, but we have to be on duty for another 2 days straight because of the big event. Jaymark, Ricky and I were scheduled at 7am to 4pm. We set up all the event hall for the preparation of the big event. We went home by 4:30pm to take a rest for tomorrow’s event.
December 21-22, 2012 This is the day that I’ve been waited for, the last day of OJT. As well, I have learned a lot in this practicum though it’s very exhausting. But now I’m so proud that I could share my knowledge to the new trainees on board. Anyway, this day is the most toxic day, the events held was very big. At the ground floor of the hotel lies a tent with 450 pax and at the grand hall lies a tent with 150 pax. I was very exhausted. I assisted them as best as I can and partly, I succeed. We went home by 4:30am.
December We went back to the hotel and get our practicum requirements such as: Grading Sheet and Certificate. We also got the chance to say thanks to all the staffs that treated us as a part of their family, and also for training us to be ready on our chosen field. I had fun. :)

Narration of Pre-Practicum Expereience The Different Things that we Experience there in Baguio is unforgettable like in our first day in Baguio the time we see the Hotel of Azalea Residences in Baguio we are amazed because it is so beautiful and it is on the top of the mountain we many houses in the surroundings of the Hotel and the climate is so cold that all the time we used are jacket because if we don’t use it we get cold and when we speak the smoke was coming out to my mouth. In the 1st day of our stay there we just stay in our room from morning until the afternoon and in the night we do our interview in HR department of the hotel, and in the second day of our stay there we early woke in the morning in 6 o’clock in the morning because we have to take a breakfast and our duty in that day will start at 10am in the Front Office and the Help Desk we know how to greet the guest and how to accommodate them, at the midnight our duty is in the F&B Services and in the Banquet we serve to the Costumers and take care of the duty in the kitchen also in that day we also duty in the Housekeeping that’s the hardest and the most tiring duty in our stay there because we clean a one entire room a deluxe room and we sleep in the 2am of the morning we are all tired that we’ve all go to bed after that duty, and in the 3rd day the day that we are waiting for because we will have a tour on the city of Baguio we all go to the Philippine Military Academy and we go back to the Hotel to check out and eat for the lunch and we pack up our things and put it on the Bus because after we have a tour on Baguio we will go home, our experience there was the most amazing experience that we had in our life because we are all gathered together not as a classmates but also a family that’s why we were all cherish the moment that we are together in that place and in that beautiful place of BAGUIO CITY!!!

PART III CONCLUSIONS Techno Park Hotel I therefore conclude that to become success in the future, we need to enhance our Talent, Knowledge, Task, and dedicated to work Techno Park Hotel gave me more opportunity to develop my skills and apply on what I’ve learned and my knowledge. We’re responsible enough to our superior, costumer and co-OJTs.

Azalea Residences
Therefore, I conclude that this Pre-practicum Activity in Azalea Residences in Baguio gave us many things that related to our course. We experience to become the employee in the hotel on how to handle the guest, we felt like this experience be the way to become one of the future hoteliers. It helps me a lot because I learned how to overcome my shyness and give best in working, how to be professional and loyal to your work.

PART IV RECOMMENDATONS
Techno Park Hotel
Student, we need to be responsible to the thing that we are assign and show our respect to the superior, employee and to the customer. Schools gave us to develop our skills and knowledge. This establishment should be accommodating and very willing to help the students to train very well.

Azalea Residences
This kind of Pre-practicum was a great opportunity for us to see what will be in the future. So if you want to develop more skills and knowledge you should must join in this kind of tour. It may help us to understand and remember all the things that you encounter and know more idea.

But I pursue to continue to have my OJT because it is for my own good. Ms. Emily assigned me at making the pizza which is pretty cool for me because I really want putting toppings in the pizza. At first it is quite hard for me because I don’t know the flavors of the pizza yet. ...be found in the movie. What’s more, the lighting in this film is high-key lighting which connotes the meaning of happiness and serenity. Moreover, the mode of address in this film is indirect to the audience which was used the third person angle to encode the meaning to the audience. On the other hand, I choose this movie because of few reasons. Firstly, I love the main character- Zac Efron very much. He has acted in many teenage romance films before, for instance, High School Musical 1, 2 and3. After I watched the High School Musical, I admire his out-looking and his acting skills. Therefore, I choose this film. Besides, the narrative of this movie is very special, which is a non-linear structure and always include some flashback scenes. Firstly, I am going to analyzing the narrative structure of this text. As Todorov mentioned; narrative structure can be divided into 5 parts, which are equilibrium, disequilibrium conflict, recognition of disequilibrium, attempt to...

Movie Critic Review of Crash

...Crash: Of Racial Discrimination and Stereotypes November 3rd, 2011 Crash: Of Racial Discrimination and Stereotypes Directed by Paul Haggis and produced in 2004, Crash was the Oscar Awards winner of Best Picture in 2006. Aside from Best Picture, the movie won only one other award: Best Original Screenplay for Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco. Despite its little recognition, Crash is an important movie to watch. The movie is essentially about racial discrimination and the consequences of stereotyping people. Set in LA, the story covers a 24-hour period. The movie depicts the stories of several people whose lives are intertwined by accidental and casual encounters, usually on the streets. The characters in the story are people of varying ethnic groups: a bad and a good cop, a group of police investigators, a couple of teenage robbers, a DA and his wife, an Arab family, a Hispanic locksmith and his family, and an affluent African American movie director and his wife. The story revolves around how all of these people have deeply ingrained prejudices and how they themselves could suffer from discrimination. Compare and Contrast the Secret Life of Walter Mitty and I’m Going

...“The Gift of the Magi” Milton Wiscovitch Jr. ENG 125 Prof. Jennifer Chunn November 26, 2012 Theme and Narrative Elements of “The Gift of the Magi” O Henry’s short story written in 1906 “The Gift of the Magi” identifies the theme elements as poverty and love. The lack of money and living in a poor neighborhood affected both Della and Jim. They expressed their unconditional love for each other by sacrificing their most prized possessions in order to buy a Christmas gift. Through this act of love both Della and Jim saw how much they really loved each other by wanting to make their partner happy. This short story identifies that love has no boundaries over having money through self sacrifice when it comes to giving all you have for the one you love. The couple sacrificed items that brought them joy such as Della’s hair and Jim’s watch which was important to the both of them but wasn’t worth much financially (Clugston, 2010). The plot’s analysis centers around the initial situation which states that Della only has $1.87 to purchase her husband Jim a gift on Christmas Eve. Both Della and Jim are poor and love her husband more than in the whole world. Della’s long hair and Jim’s gold watch were the only things they had and gave them up for one another. In the conflict, Della sells her hair to get the money in order to purchase her husband Jim a gift. This solves the problem of not having enough money and later she finds the perfect present for her husband. This opposes...

The Role of Sound in the Thin Red Line

...The Role of Sound in The Thin Red Line Terrence Malick attempts to recreate a part of the war in the pacific on screen through the use of a variety of techniques in The Thin Red Line (1998). One of the most prevalent of these techniques is the use of sound in the movie. Unlike the majority of war movies this movie doesn’t feature a soundtrack that glorifies the battle scenes. The presence of periodic narration and a focus on natural sounds like wind and water moving across the landscape also set this film apart. These audio features combine flawlessly with video to create a very deep and seemingly realistic depiction of the horrors of war. There is little, if any, soundtrack in the intense scenes of battle. This stands out in contrast to the blockbuster action flicks that portray intense action as thrilling and exciting with high tempo musical scores. By creating this contrast with typical action movies Malick lets the audience know that this movie should not go down the same way as the latest Rambo movie does. When a musical soundtrack is present it is often sad and low or it is associated with the environment of the film, such as native islanders singing or sticks drumming against one another. The toned-down soundtrack gives the movie a more authentic feel. The musical soundtrack is most lighthearted when Pvt. Witt is with the natives, separated from the army and civilization. Malick also uses the soundtrack to highlight shifts in emotional scenes. An excellent example...

Saving Nea

...Saving Nea In the short fictional story, “Saving Sourdi,” author May-lee Chai focuses on the bond and relationship between two sisters, Nea and Sourdi. Nea, the younger sibling in “Saving Sourdi,” looks up and admires her older sister, Sourdi. As the two sisters grow in age, Nea isn’t ready to face reality and watch her older sibling start a life without her. Throughout the story, Nea makes desperate attempts to “save” her older sister. In reality, Nea is the character in the story that needs to be “saved”, rather than her sister. Nea, the protagonist and major character in “Saving Sourdi,” is immature and dramatic. At the age of eleven, Nea stabs a man at the restaurant, after hearing him call Sourdi a “China doll.” While Sourdi manages to remain calm during this event, Nea reacts without thinking of the consequences. Toward the end of the story, Nea calls Duke and tells him that her sister is in danger. “Look, I don’t have time to explain. We have to go tonight. It’s an emergency. A matter of life and death.”(Chai 91). Here, Nea acts without thinking and makes it sound like Sourdi will die if they don’t go to Des Moines. Nea’s decision to call Duke for help leads to Sourdi’s husband getting punched in the face. Also, this episode results in the two sisters growing further apart, which is not Nea’s intention. The mother brings some light onto Nea as a character. She tells Nea: “You not like your sister. Your sister know how to bear things!”(Chai 90). What does the mother mean...
