Old Bag Speech Evaluation
Link: -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zut0um94R60

I was given the task to evaluate and old back speech given on YouTube where the presenter began her presentation very enthusiastically making me interested in what she had to say and had very good body language projection. Her description of the reasoning for choosing her bag was very well put together and very detailed. She gave a good introduction on bags which lead to her over reasons of why she choose her specified bag and wanted to let audience no the emotional connection behind her choice which I got fully. She projected her voice clearly and introduced each topic flawlessly and in detailed.
The organization of how she made each segment of her presentation was well put together. In her presentation on her item of the past she gave a good description and presented an item that completely complimented each other and as the audience listening to her speech I could completely relate to what she had to say without having gone through it myself.
She had the same flow of connections in her second item as she did in the first one. At this point her voice was still projected excellently and her body language was still projected perfectly keeping me interested throughout the presentation.
She then followed up her presentation on the final items was done in the same manner. She made sure that the audience cud relate to what she was saying and if need, paint their own picture of what she was saying in their heads. Personally I didn’t see any flaws in her presentation, she introduced the speech nicely, had a solid and descriptive body, and concluded her presentation smoothly. Her Delivery was in my opinion very well done, as stated in my earlier paragraph she projected her voice and body language very well.
Overall I grade her

Colorism

...------------------------------------------------- COLORISM WURAOLA, MUHAMMED June 29, 2014 iNFORMATIVE SPEECH SPEECH 103 June 29, 2014 iNFORMATIVE SPEECH SPEECH 103 COLORISM I will inform the audience about colorism and the effect it has on African Americans today. I will discuss when and how colorism started, and how it affects the way you feel about yourself and the way you live your life. “If you’re black, stay back; if you’re brown, stick around; if you’re yellow, you’re mellow; if you’re white, you’re all right.” This is an old nursery rhyme sung by kids. These days you would probably see the same idea being expressed by African Americans themselves. There is only one ethnic group that acts as if light and dark skinned are two different nationalities. Which ethnic group, you ask. African-Americans. Colorism refers to discrimination based on skin color. Colorism disadvantages dark-skinned people, while privileging those with lighter skin. I have also experienced colorism. People of my own race, especially the men will treat you differently just based on the color of your skin, and I also used to wish I was lighter. This topic may relate to you because colorism may exist in other cultures too, like Vietnam and India. I will discuss when and how colorism started, and how it affects the way you feel about yourself and the way you live your life. This brings us to how colorism started. A man name Will Lynch, a British slave owner gave a speech at the Virginia colony on the Bank of James River in 1712. He...

Immediacy

...Immediacy Whenever it is time to prepare for a speech in class the first thing I think about is how I can connect with the audience. I do this first because I feel that any audience member should feel a connection between them and the speaker whether or not they agree or disagree with the speaker. And the way I display this connection with the audience is through the types of immediacy such as verbal immediacy, nonverbal immediacy, technological influences on immediacy, and cultural influences on immediacy. In my first speech of the class, Any Old Bag Speech, I focused on getting the audience to me and like me for who I am. When I watched the speech on acclaim I realized that I used a form of verbal immediacy. Verbal immediacy directly relates to judgments of a speaker’s competence and character and includes the use of personal examples, humor, addressing others by first name and asking questions that solicit viewpoints or opinions. Using humor and personal examples in the speech certainly helped me relax because I could tell the audience was enjoying my speech instead of nodding off due to boredom. It also gave me confidence in my ability to speak in front of people, which is one of the main purposes of this course. My informative speech was a bit of struggle trying to find the connection with audience because the topic I chose. I could tell by the way that some of the audience were sitting that I was lacking immediacy. The nonverbal immediacy, which describes nonverbal...

...voice, pronunciation of vowels and consonants, stress, and prosody. For this assignment I chose to go to the “speech accent archive” website. The Speech Accent Archive website is established to uniformly exhibit a large set of speech accents from a variety of language backgrounds. At this website, native and non-native speakers of English all read the same English paragraph and are carefully recorded. I chose to listen to Turkish, Japanese and Arabic and compare the accents of the different English speakers. Throughout the paper I will discuss the different speaker’s pronunciation of vowels, consonants, and phrasing intonations. The first speaker I listened to was a 27 year old lady who was from Bingol, Turkey. She began to learn English at the age of 26 and has been living in the United States for almost a year. The first thing I noticed after listening to her Turkish accent was that she did a lot of devoicing. Devoicing involves turning consonants that are supposed to be voiced into either a voiceless or its voiceless counterpart. A good example of this is when she said the word “Bob.” When the final consonant in Bob was devoiced, it sounded like she said the word "Bop." I also noticed that she did a lot of consonant voicing by changing the s to a z. So for example all the words in the paragraph that ended in an s (things, spoons, peas, cheese, plastics, kids, and bags) she pronounced the ending sound with a z. So it sounded like she was saying: thingz, spoonz, peaz, cheeze...

Movie Analysis of Secohand Lions

...character, who seems to be desperately trying to hold onto his youth and prove that he is still as strong and capable as ever. After getting into a fight with several teenagers, Uncle Hub brings them back to his house. He gives them his “what every boy needs to know about being a man” speech. By the end of the movie, both uncles have grown attached to Walter and are upset when his mother returns to take him. Walter decides that he wants to stay with his uncles, but insists that they be involved in all of his activities including little league, boy scouts and PTA (McCanlies, 2003). On the surface, the public image of the uncles are that of two grumpy, bitter, old men. They regularly shoot at salesmen that come to call on them. They are rude to their relatives. Uncle Hub gets into a fight with teenagers. He checks himself out of the hospital after yelling at the nurses and throwing stuff down the hall. They are both in conflict with the idea of getting old and they lash out. However, there is also another very important side to the uncles. They are both strong, adventurous men who want to share their life experiences with the next generation. Uncle Hub’s “what every boy needs to know about being a man speech” is something he is proud to pass on. Uncle Garth...

Defense Paper

...On December 24, 1968, a 10-year-old girl went missing in Des Moines, Iowa. That same day, a man named Robert Williams was seen carrying a burlap bag with what looked like human legs hanging from the bag. A warrant was issued in Des Moines for Williams’s arrest and two days later, 160 miles away from Des Moines, he turned himself in for questioning. Williams was properly Mirandized and an attorney in Des Moines told him to not say anything until he could talk to his lawyer back in Des Moines. Two detectives who were in the car with Williams engaged in a casual conversation with him. Knowing about Williams’s religious background, the detectives explained to Williams how the little girl’s family at least deserved to give the little girl a proper burial. Williams then lead the detectives to the body. I believe that Williams is guilty in this crime and that the detectives did not break any of Williams’s rights. Some may say that the detectives violated Williams’s right to counsel, others may say that the detectives even took advantage because of Williams having severe psychological problems, but I disagree. Williams was properly read his rights and was told not to speak until he was able to talk to his lawyer, so it’s not like he was unaware. The detectives technically did not question Williams. Instead, they recited the “Christian Burial Speech”, talked about how hard it would be to find the girl’s body due to all the snow from the bad weather, and that if Williams knew where...

Pathology: A Profession Analysis

...OU questions One personal characteristic that I believe makes me suitable for the profession of Speech-Language Pathology is my patience. People have always told me that they admired how patient I am with young children. I have exhibited this patience throughout the past 12 years as a dance coach, a nanny and a waitress. Similarly, my flexible and easygoing demeanor will be very useful during therapy sessions and work as a clinician. My personal experience taught me that things do not always go as planned. As a professional, this flexibility will allow me to make changes and adapt a therapy plan when necessary. I saw the importance of adaptability during direct clinical experience with a child on the autism spectrum. Thanks to my early experience with dance, I was given the opportunity to work with children at a young age. My love for helping kids began when I became a dance teacher at my local dance studio. Ever since, I have aspired to work with children in some capacity. After shadowing a Speech-Language Pathologist for the first time, I quickly realized how my dream of helping children was going to be fulfilled. I knew that I had found my perfect career path. Throughout the past four years, my experiences have prepared me...

Of Mice And Men Lennie's Death

...Without question, Of Mice and Men by George Steinbeck is a gritty, dark, novella filled with despondency and hopelessness. The despondency and hopelessness is brought on by the deaths of innocent characters, and reinforced by the lack of care for life that seems to hold itself in the minds of most of the ranchers in the story. Their carelessness for the death of others reveals to us the lifestyle on the ranch, as well as the lifestyle of the bitter, rough Great Depression of the 1930s in America. While these deaths are insignificant to the men on the ranch, they hold major significance to the plot. Our introduction to these ideas on death amongst the ranchers starts with the death of Candy’s dog. This sheepdog was old and feeble, but was...

Figure of Speech

...Figures of Speech (Stylistic Devices) What are stylistic devices? In literature and writing, a figure of speech (also called stylistic device or rhetorical device) is the use of any of a variety of techniques to give an auxiliary meaning, idea, or feeling. Sometimes a word diverges from its normal meaning, or a phrase has a specialized meaning not based on the literal meaning of the words in it. Examples are metaphor, simile, or personification. Stylistic devices often provide emphasis, freshness of expression, or clarity. A simile is a figure of speech comparing two unlike things, often introduced with the word "like" or "as". It takes the form of: * X is (not) like Y * X is (not) as Y * X is (not) similar to Y Examples of simile: * He fights like a lion. * He swims as fast as a fish. * He slithers like a snake. * "My dad was a mechanic by trade when he was in the Army, When he got the tools out, he was like a surgeon." What is a metaphor? Unlike simile, metaphor (from the Greek language: meaning "transfer") is language that directly compares seemingly unrelated subjects. It is a figure of speech that compares two or more things not using like or as. In the simplest case, this takes the form: X - is - Y Examples of metaphor: All the world's a stage,  And all the men and women merely players;  They have their exits and their entrances; (William Shakespeare, As You Like It, 2/7) Example:  “Henry was a lion on the battlefield”. This...

Why..?

...gratification for all actions makes it very easy for someone to just take the easy way out, because many don’t realize that work, over a long period time produces RESULTS.     No one ever got anywhere by sitting in their parents basement, playing video games, and burying themselves under bags of chips and mountain dew cans.   The most successful people in the world didn’t get that way over night.   They got there by putting their nose to the grindstone for years, until the effort paid off.    The phrase, “money doesn’t buy happiness” isn’t quite as accurate as it might have been, even 10 years ago.   It may be insensitive, but it’s true, happiness, to at least some degree, requires a little bit of cash... and the most surefire way to make sure you have that cash is good, old fashioned, hard work... Sure there are a few people in the world who have achieved success, seemingly out of nowhere, but I guarantee that in 15 years, if you ask a 16 about “Snooki,” they will reply, “What the hell is a Snooki?” Those are not the people we should be modeling ourselves after.   I encourage you to channel Bill Gates, not Pauli D.   Eleanor Roosevelt, not Paris Hilton.    I hope with this speech, I have motivated you to think about how you want to spend the rest of your...

Advice to Youth by Mark Twain

...“Advice to Youth” By Mark Twain Being told I would be expected to talk here, I inquired what sort of talk I ought to make. They said it should be something suitable to youth--something didactic, instructive, or something in the nature of good advice. Very well. I have a few things in my mind which I have often longed to say for the instruction of the young; for it is in one’s tender early years that such things will best take root and be most enduring and most valuable. First, then. I will say to you my young friends--and I say it beseechingly, urgingly-- Always obey your parents, when they are present. This is the best policy in the long run, because if you don’t, they will make you. Most parents think they know better than you do, and you can generally make more by humoring that superstition than you can by acting on your own better judgment. Be respectful to your superiors, if you have any, also to strangers, and sometimes to others. If a person offend you, and you are in doubt as to whether it was intentional or not, do not resort to extreme measures; simply watch your chance and hit him with a brick. That will be sufficient. If you shall find that he had not intended any offense, come out frankly and confess yourself in the wrong when you struck him; acknowledge it like a man and say you didn’t mean to. Yes, always avoid violence; in this age of charity and kindliness, the time has gone by for such things. Leave dynamite to the low and unrefined. Go to bed early, get...

That man’s speech was brusque, lengthy, and annoying; I plugged my ears to hopefully ignore his dull voice. I could cajole my mom and dad to give me rides after school by simply buying them a bag of chips. . We need to castigate that man, he pulled out a gun in front of an officer.
