...Why the words 'under God' should be in the Pledge of Allegiance The words 'under God' were in the Pledge of Allegiance since 1954. They added those words to show the contrast between the United States of America and the communist regime. They also show how we are a true nation under God. Having a nation under God is very important because we get are freedom from God, not the government or anyone else. Everything we got from this country came from God. We ask him for help when in need or if we need guidance. He will protect this country and the words 'under God' need to be kept in America’s Pledge of Allegiance. Christian people have a huge say in if 'under God' should be kept in the pledge. The United States was brought by the Christian background. Our nation was developed and established that way. Christians made up most of are country and fought for it under Gods name. Every constitution of the fifty states that make up are union, contain a reference to God. Oaths sworn in court use the phrase “so help me God.” The Supreme Court summons with a prayer, “God save this honorable court.” We use these phrases because we put are faith and trust into God. The people that want 'under God' to be removed from the pledge say that...

...history that should be left alone the way they are; as should the Pledge of Allegiance. Two little words, “Under God,” have created a controversy among Americans today. Some people feel that these words go against the First Amendment rights. Some people feel that these words are pushing religion onto people with Atheist or Agnostic beliefs. Some people feel these words are affirming their allegiance to God. In 1892, a socialist minister, Francis Bellamy, wrote the original Pledge of Allegiance with the hopes of it being used by citizens in any country. This is what he wrote: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” (“Historic Documents”, 1995-2012) The words, “the Flag of the United States of America” were added in 1923. The words, “Under God” were not added until 1954, when President Eisenhower proposed to Congress that the words be added due to the hard times that the United States was enduring. Since 1954 The Pledge of Allegiance has read: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” (“Historic Documents”, 1995-2012) The real question is, should the words, “under God” stay in The Pledge of Allegiance?” Some people feel that the words “under God” staying in The Pledge of Allegiance go against their first amendment rights. According to “Congressional...

...1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy, the pledge was then edited in 1923, but it was only thirty-one years later in 1954 that the words “under God” where added by Congress. Ever since this day there has been many controversial issues dealing with the addition on the words “under God” to the pledge of the United States of America because many believe it limits us to only one religion, and its against the whole ordeal of the Constitution. So the question still remains should the claim “under God” be eliminated from the pledge of Allegiance? My answer to that is yes, because why would I let my self or anyone for that matter be limited to only one religion in a Nation that practices...

...Constitutional Right or Religious Freedom How the Representation of God in the Pledge of Allegiance Affects the American People I. The phrase, “Under God” in the United States Pledge of Allegiance perpetuates the most significant form of discrimination in modern time. II. “Samantha you stand for the pledge right now!” Exclaimed Mrs. Cline. Samantha knew she was doing what was right in her eyes, and it didn’t matter what the consequence was going to be. “That’s it! I have had it with your disruptive behavior little girl! Yes, this is Mrs. Cline from room 319, yes, I have a little girl hear refusing to say the pledge, and I need her removed from my classroom immediately!” As the Sherriff snapped the handcuffs on tight, a trickle of tears began to stream down her face. The rude laughter and picking of the other children was nothing but a loud roar in the air. It was like a wait before a trial hearing, where you really didn’t know what to expect until the evidence was all laid out. When her mother appeared in Mr. Jones’s office, the air stood still and no one could seem to look away. The snickering and mutters of the adults in the office buzzed about as Mrs. Smith and Mr. Jones were at war with words. “Don’t you ever think you can just arrest my daughter for not standing and saying something she has no knowledge or belief in!! I swear you better have a damn good apology for my daughter!,” Yelled Mrs. Smith as she rushed her daughter from the building. 1.) The United...

...Professor Gregory Smith March15, 2015 Each day elementary school teachers in the Elk Grove Unified School District lead their classes in a group recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Respondent, Michael Newdow, is an atheist whose daughter participates in that daily exercise. Because the Pledge contains the words "under God," he views the School District's policy as a religious indoctrination of his child that violates the First Amendment. A divided panel of the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit agreed with Newdow. In light of the obvious importance of that decision, we granted certiorari to review the First Amendment issue and, preliminarily, the question whether Newdow has standing to invoke the jurisdiction of the federal courts. We conclude that Newdow lacks standing and therefore reverse the Court of Appeals' decision (Findlaw, n.d.). Summary of Court Case Petitioner school district requires each elementary school class to recite daily the Pledge of Allegiance. Respondent Newdow's daughter participates in this exercise. Newdow, an atheist, filed suit alleging that, because the Pledge contains the words "under God," it constitutes religious indoctrination of his child in violation of the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses. He also alleged that he had standing to sue on his own behalf and on behalf of his daughter as "next friend." The Magistrate Judge concluded that the Pledge is constitutional, and the District Court agreed...

... These natural boundaries create some nations which leads humans to wonder about the origins of a nation. For example, as seen in the time of Mazzini, the earth and all the geographical features accompanying it were created by God so if a country ends because of a natural barrier is this not a sign of a predestined nation through God. Mazzini creates his concept of a nation as a natural entity through the use of God’s role in the creation of the land, however, Mazzini adds an addition necessity within his...

...BIBL 105 Short Essay 2 As we follow the events of the nation Israel, we see the hand of God in every turning point of their history. How He brought them out of Egyptian bondage under the leadership of Moses, to the possession of the land of promise under the leadership of the great commander Joshua. History then points us, to the book of 1 Samuel showing how God transitioned His covenanted nation away from the failing theocratic administration under the tribal judges toward the theocratic administration of the united monarchy; thus the era of the reign of kings were born (Hinson and Yates 2012:162). Samuel the righteous judge of Israel is raised up to serve during a time when the nation was declining both morally and politically. The priesthood was corrupt and the hearts of the people were far from God. The Philistine oppression was great and had wrought a great slaughter among them. It was Samuel whom God used to ultimately usher the nation back to Him. “So the Israelites put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only. Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah and I will pray to the Lord for you. So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there, we have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.” (1 Sam 7:4-6 AMP). Now as Samuel began to age, he appointed his two sons as judges over Israel, but they did not possess the righteousness of Samuel. They were...

...scripture is basically fellowship of God's creatures with the creator. Keeping in mind that sin is a reality in the created order, a better way to put it would be this: Salvation is restoration of fellowship of God's creatures with the creator. Before unpacking that statement, I will state my own theological suppositions. My first introduction to God was in the stories of his dealings with his people in scripture, especially the Hebrew scriptures. Rather than straight propositional truths about God, my view of God resulted from the stories of how God dealt with his people. Having gone through theological training with a Barton-Stone movement background, I did not develop a rigid, propositional faith in God or in his dealings with humankind. I find God's character in his actions more than in propositional statements. As a result, my view of God's sovereignty and the nature of his rule over creation is not a tidy mechanistic system, but has a certain level of give and take. God is free to make exceptions when he desires, usually in the interest of grace. My reading of Job demonstrates the tendencies even for sages to attempt to place God in a box. As a result, I do not class myself as Reformed nor as Arminian, though my views probably have more in common with Arminianism. As to salvation experience, I believe that repentance, confession, and baptism are all part of the expression of faith in Christ and are all an integral part of the salvation experience. Having stated my suppositions...

...A Great Nation with Many Questions The American citizens of this great nation, as a whole, are ready to concede that the United States of America was not founded with Christian principles or with any basis of religion. In ten years, no one will question whether we were founded as a Christian nation or not. Is this something that American citizens are willing to concede? Our founding fathers never directly made reference to Christianity or religion, but it certainly was referenced. Think of how the United States of America would be if its foundation was not one with Christian principles, not a united country, a country without good moral values. Historically, whether many believe it or not, the United States of America is a Christian nation. American was founded by the Pilgrims and Puritans in the early 1600’s. They came to America to be able to practice religious freedom and for other reasons. England decided that they wanted to break away from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1500’s, thus the creation of the Church of England, otherwise known as the Anglican Church. The pilgrims not wanting to belong to the Church of England decided that they wanted to establish a colony in the state of Virginia. They wanted to practice religious freedom and have the Gospel as part of their lives. According to you tube video, “Pilgrims and their journey” by Amwess1 the pilgrims left for America in 1620 on the Mayflower. After more than sixty days they made land at Plymouth, Massachusetts...

...THE PURPOSE OF THE EKKLĒSÍA:UNITY & RECONCILIATION 4 CONCLUSION 8 BIBLIOGRAPHY 10 INTRODUCTION We begin with the fact that God: . . .[R]aised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come, and God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. In Ephesians 1:20-23, we see the exalted Christ, reigning in heaven, having put all things under His feet. Jesus Christ is the head of the church, which is His body. In the eyes of God, the church (ekklēsía) is so much more than traditionally thought. The church is destined for so much more than just to be saved from the wrath of God. God has purposed that the ekklēsía, his called-out body of believers, be His agents or representatives on the earth during this present age to reconcile all things to Himself. He therefore has filled his people with Himself, through the Holy Spirit. The purpose of this paper is to discuss God’s mystery revealed, unity and reconciliation. THE SUPREMACY OF THE HEAD: JESUS CHRIST The purpose of God is to reconcile all things to Himself. By “all things” God means the whole universe, heavenly as well as earthly things. This Jesus did by shedding his blood on the cross. Through His death and resurrection...

...I think about the phrase, “under God”, and what I think about people who choose not to say the Pledge of Allegiance. I think it is good that we say the Pledge of Allegiance everyday. One reason is it helps remind us of our country, our freedom, and our rights. In the Pledge of Allegiance it says, “…one Nation.” When we say the pledge it reminds us that we are one nation and we should think of everyone as a whole. It also says, “…indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” it is saying...
