The Paired Kidney Donation Pilot Program is a program that connects donors to candidates for a kidney transplant. The process makes this program unique. For example, Patient X has a family member who wants to donate their kidney to them, but they are not a match. Patient Y is in the same situation as patient X, where they have a significant other who I willing to donate a kidney, but is unable to. The candidates and donors are entered into a system where they are matched by a coordinator. If Patient X’s family member matches with Patient Y, along with Patient Y’s significant other matching with Patient X than the pairing has been successful. The Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program (KPDPP) allows more successful kidney transplants to occur because it is increases the match of rates, ultimately leading to more kidney transplants. …show more content…
I joined Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program (KPDPP) in is developmental stages because Banner Tucson is working with Banner Phoenix to begin the KPDPP in Arizona. There are many KPDP’s around the United States. Tucson’s partnership with Phoenix is to increase the probability of success for each patient because they population of Tucson is smaller in comparison to Phoenix. The KPDP is a great because it provides a great opportunity to those who have people willing to donate, but are unable to because of the genetic similarities. Dr. Jie provides insight on the details of starting the pilot program at a hospital and who is involved. I believe I provide a different perspective of looking at ways to improve and expand the program though the multiple questions I ask in attempt to get a better understanding of the subject matter. I often times challenge the physician I am working on because I want to ensure the patients are receiving the optimal service. For example, I asked the physician about the percentage of a patients matched in Arizona compared to other other states during their beginning stages and will the Kidney Paired Donation
