When assessing paradigms, models, and frames of reference in the OT profession it can become cumbersome due to overlap and exchangeability of these terms. However, by taking a closer look it becomes clear each has a specific place in the OT profession. Paradigms form the philosophical base of the OT profession, while models focus on the relationship between occupation, person and environment within the OT profession (Cole, 2008). Frames of reference in a sense take into account the paradigms and models in OT, however are focus on specific assessments and interventions (Cole, 2008).
Paradigm, as described by Kielhofner (as cited in Cole, 2008) is an idea surrounding the most essential assumptions and beliefs, which aids in the development of a profession. Paradigm is viewed as a broad overview which, “contains the guiding premises and theories behind our profession as a whole” (Mason, 2015). 61). Models include all aspects of OT and try to explain the relationship between occupation, person, and environment (Cole, 2008). Models much like paradigms are broad concepts that do not have a specific focus. The concentration behind models is broad, therefore it is not focused on any disability, age group, or practice area (Cole, 2008).
Frame of reference according to Mason (2015), “has been described as the belief or value system upon which the model is based” (p. 2). The frame of reference is the most specific of the terms and builds its concepts from the paradigms and models. The frame of reference applies concepts outlined by models and applies it to specific disabilities, age groups, or practice areas (Cole, 2008). This term also encompasses evaluation and intervention approaches within a specific OT domain (Mason,

E-Learning Revolution

...E-Learning: Emergence of the Profession Jason Drysdale, Jackie Flynt, and Shauna Hannon-Johnson 24 July 2011 The e-learning profession has grown leaps and bounds over the past two decades. Despite being slow to take hold, e-learning is now rapidly increasing in universities: “Today, almost all institutions of higher education offer some form of distance teaching and learning in the U.S.” (Saba, 2008). The historical timelines of instructional design and technology (ID&T) and distance education inform practices in place today. In this paper we track the development of these two traditions, each of which has contributed to current e-learning practice. Instructional Design and Technology: Parent Field Instructional design and technology (ID&T) is the term Robert Reiser (2001) uses for the field also known as instructional design, instructional technology, and educational technology. The core of ID&T revolves around two related practices: use of media for instruction and use of systematic design processes—known as instructional design or instructional systems design (ISD) (Reiser, 2001). We briefly trace below the development of these two strands of the field. Instructional media has been used since the early 1900s in school museums with movable exhibits. These museums appeared first in St. Louis in 1905, primarily using visual media such as photos and slides. This was known as the visual education movement. Movies were used, as per Thomas Edison’s expectation, beginning in 1910...

New Product Development and Ethics

...iour” (2008) Melissa S. Baucus et al explains how “Employees are told to relax standards as they seek to innovate and, to enhance creativity”. The authors described the four prescriptions that are stimulated among in-dividuals in order to make them more crea-tive which are: New Product Development and Ethics From New Product Development (NDP) to Sustain-able New Product development (SNPD) The present review aims at being a summary of the main academic articles about project in-novation and the ethical considerations behind them. In 2007 Melissa S Baucus expressed her concern for the fact that creativity researchers rarely discuss ethics. Although the num-ber of companies with ethical considerations is increasing and many are considering words such as sustainability and respect to human rights to their values and mission statements, still they are rarely consider in day to day of business planning and Innovation, Creativity, Stage Gate Controls are words which remain with a weak connection to ethics. Engineering Mining techniques are achieving the immediate goal, extract the material but they are doing it ignoring the more basic ethical considerations and to the cost of destroying both communities and environment. It is also no surprise that the larger consuming population in these markets lies not at the top end, but towards the middle and lower ends of the income pyramid. This is also where marketers struggle the most – how should the offer be constructed to ensure it is affordable yet desirable? The proposed Theory of Multiple Aspiration & Poverty Lines (MAPL) represented a new and stratified approach to understanding affluence, poverty and aspiration. This has many implications on brand positioning and portfolio strategies for creation of winning brands or “suns”. Objective The objective of this paper was to take this thinking forward through an exploration as follows:    Broadly, what are the implications of the Multiple Aspiration & Poverty Lines (MAPL) theory for brand positioning, communication and portfolio management? What drives brand success in the Indian context? What strategies have these brands used to achieve success- to what degree are these brands wedded to symbols of aspiration /belongingness in each social class? How did the brands that were not so successful in the Indian market falter on making the right connections on these dimensions? Approach We identified product categories through which...

Why There Still so Many Jobs

...Journal of Economic Perspectives—Volume 29, Number 3—Summer 2015—Pages 3–30 Why Are There Still So Many Jobs? The History and Future of Workplace Automation† David H. Autor T here have been periodic warnings in the last two centuries that automation and new technology were going to wipe out large numbers of middle class jobs. The best-known early example is the Luddite movement of the early 19th century, in which a group of English textile artisans protested the automation of textile production by seeking to destroy some of the machines. A lesser-known but more recent example is the concern over “The Automation Jobless,” as they were called in the title of a TIME magazine story of February 24, 1961: The number of jobs lost to more efficient machines is only part of the problem. What worries many job experts more is that automation may prevent the economy from creating enough new jobs. . . . Throughout industry, the trend has been to bigger production with a smaller work force. . . . Many of the losses in factory jobs have been countered by an increase in the service industries or in office jobs. But automation is beginning to move in and eliminate office jobs too. . . . In the past, new industries hired far more people than those they put out of business. But this is not true of many of today’s new industries. . . . Today’s new industries have comparatively few jobs for the unskilled or semiskilled, just the class of workers whose jobs are being eliminated...
