Personal Narrative: Coming Into High School

Two years ago I entered my final four years of schooling, also referred to as high school. Coming into high school was very nerve wracking. I only had an idea of what it was like from my older siblings and what is portrayed in movies as well as tv shows. In other words I was blindsided by the whole concept of high school. When you enter high school as a freshman you are automatically labeled as annoying and immature. At the time I was very upset with a label that I didn't feel that suited me. Looking back I see why freshman get that label and how you begin to change over time. I have faced many obstacles in the duration of my high school experience, and will continue facing them everyday but the obstacles have shaped me into the more mature …show more content…
But it wasn’t the tiny school of 50 kids in my grade anymore. I had 300 new opportunities to expand my friend group. As the months went on and my middle school friend group began to dwindle due to the fact that we are all trying to figure out who we are and what we like.We were able to branch out and do just that in the environment put around us. We went our separate ways and found other friends that better suited our new found Identities. That wasn't the only way I lost and gained friends through the last two years. Some of my friends got in relationships and slowly migrated towards their significant other. One other way was I In mainly advanced classes and a few classes were with upper classmen. I Began to take on the personality and the point of view of them. I was able to start to bond and later lose my title of immature and annoying. Lsstly I am a survivor of what we call drama. Drama is a he said she said said situation. In my case it ended up being a bunch of rumors that tore my friends and I

...PERSONAL NARRATIVE 1 When taking a look at how my life has changed over the past five years I can truly and honestly say that I would never have expected the things that have happened. Back in June 2007 I was separated from my husband and moved into my own apartment. I was in the United States Navy for six and a half years at that time. My divorce was finalized in January 2008 and I deployed to Afghanistan in March 2008, for eight months. After coming home from a long deployment, I had orders to move to Lemoore, California. This area is nothing but farm lands and I did not like that at all. I was born and raised in Southern California and enjoyed the fast-paced life that I was living. It is amazing how things have changed. In July 2011 I was honorably discharged from the United States Navy and I moved back in with my mother and two younger sister. Growing up we lived in a condo in Diamond Bar, California, but that all changed over time. The same time that I got out of the military, myself, my sisters and my mother had to move out of our condo and into a two bedroom apartment. Talk about a huge change in life. This move has not been easy for any of us. There is no privacy and we all have to share the living space. I share a bed with my middle sister and my mother shares a bed with my youngest sister. I never thought that I would be unemployed for this long, but it has been over a year since I got discharged. It seems like nobody is hiring right now...

Barack Obama held a Speech “Back to school event” for the first day at school on national television. In this Speech he stressed the importance of education. He would spread a message across the country: do not give up, do not quit because: “you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country” (l.63-64). The rhetoric in this speech that Barack Obama held to all American pupils is a classic way of build-ing it up: The opening is first. Here Obama says hello and talks about the first day in the semester. Then the narrative, which is some background information. Here Barack Obama talks about his own experience as a pupil. After the narrative comes the argumentation. In the argumentation is all the main weight of the speech. He talks about obligation, the future for the students and so on. Then the ending is coming. ...night, in order to try to keep them from choosing activities that would be poor choices and possibly getting in trouble. Although this activity is open to any junior high and high school student in the area, I realized very quickly that most of the teens that attended could easily be labeled as “high risk” teens. Many of them have very stressful/negative settings at home. For some of the teens this was easily identifiable quickly. Others were very good at hiding their troubles. I enjoyed serving my service learning hours at Fort Boise, but, in a way, I wish I would have chosen an organization where I would have been able to get a little closer to the people, on a personal level. Teen Night was just more of group interaction (playing basketball, dodge ball, video games, etc.). There was one teen (Will) I was able to form a bond with that was, originally, very closed off. I later found out, from one of the other volunteers, there were concerns of suicide with Will. I will discuss this bond further into the paper, but I will say that connecting with Will was the highlight of my service learning. YouTube is a new context in which subjects tell stories to an audience through self-made videos and re-edited TV programs. After defining the pros and cons of different approaches to the study of YouTube, narrative analysis is presented as a possible means of understanding YouTube.
