One of the best decisions I have made in my life was to move to Florida. Never thought moving to Florida was going to make me feel so great. When my wife and I decided to move to Florida to see if we can have better opportunities, we were both absolutely afraid of this new journey.

Although, we both transferred from our Jobs, we were both hoping we can make this dream comes true. Since I came to the United States of America, back in 2010. I have tried to join school and become a professional. That has been always my dream. After I was transferred from the New York facility to the Boca Raton, Florida facility realized that I was wasting all my time being out from school.

I decided to join Lynn University because my employer see I am a potential

Until the day I perceived it as my philosophy of survival. This story is of my purest memories following my relentless battles. Simplistic flashbacks of virtuous kids. Full of laughter and play with nothing to be feared except for the day’s end. All before the moment where the innocence was dissolved away by the acidic misfortunes of life. [a series of sentence fragments] To illustrate, the first setting in this world was in the town called “Ocala”. It was in South-central Florida, a place where nature thrived and creatures of all walks of life roamed. The most business we had there was a prison thirty miles away, and a Wal-Mart 30 miles further down the same road. So one would say it was pretty rural. Just a quaint ole town, where the trees outnumbered the people. My best friend Samantha and I loved the fact that we had mother-nature as our playground. Spending most of our waking moments playing in the open forests, we’d sneak around concocting strategic methods on how to collect lizards and insects, then place them in small decorated cages. The New Jersey Guidelines, signed by Governor Whitman and Attorney General Farmer, states that if an offender was released from custody or on parole or probation since the effective date of this law, or have been found to be compulsive and receptive regardless of the date of the conviction, he or she is required to register with their local police department as a registered sex offender. Depending on the crime, an offender is forced to register with the police department anywhere from every ninety days to once a year. If the offender moves, he or she must notify both the currently-registered law enforcement agency, as well as the new law enforcement agency no less than ten days before moving. If an offender fails to do any of the above, he or she will be charged with a third degree offense of failure to register, which is punishable with between three to five years in state prison (2000). After the convicted sex offender registers with their local police department, “prosecutors review the original offense and prison record, and determine whether the offender has a job or other community ties to evaluate potential risk. The requirement of community notification is based upon the risk of re-offense, which, in turn, defines the “tier” or category in which the offender is placed” (Megan’s Law, 1996, p. 1). In adopting an autoethnographic and life-history approach, Mike Hayler develops a theoretically informed discussion of how the professional identity of teacher educators is both formed and represented by narratives of experience. ...1 Transcending the limitations of diaspora as a category of cultural identity in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s The Thing Around Your Neck Dr Elizabeth Jackson University of the West Indies St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago Having begun my academic career, not so long ago, as a postcolonial scholar, I have become increasingly critical of postcolonial theory on the grounds that for an increasing number of literary texts by so-called postcolonial writers, postcolonial theoretical approaches may have outlived their usefulness. One example is the Nigerian-born writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s collection of short stories The Thing Around Your Neck, published in 2009. My paper will examine the ways in which these stories explore the limits of diaspora as a category of cultural identity and move toward a more flexible conceptualization of the impact of globalization on people’s sense of themselves and their place in the world. Although the main characters in these stories are of Nigerian origin, few of them fit easily into the limiting categories of ‘Nigerian’ or ‘Nigerian diaspora’. This is not only because their geographical placement is often in flux, but also because their sense of identity is not based on nationality, national origin, or even a sense of belonging to a Nigerian diaspora.
