It has been over a decade since I have completed high school, I have noticed the delay in my education throughout this class. When I began school in January I was apprehensive with the course material, as well as the work that was required. The fact that I had to get my point across in writing seemed inconceivable, how could I “show rather than tell”? Be that as it may, I began my writing journey. There were times I would just sit and cry because I had no clue what I was doing, however, I still put one word in front of the other. In module two I found my saving grace, it was a handout by Anne Lamott called “Shitty First Drafts”. From that point, I would search each idea I had in tell my finished notes morphed into an abundance of data. Knowing that I had one idea out of many gave me a security net. Even having a plethora of topics did not ease the struggle of producing an essay. Similar to what Lamott described, writing even one sentence, feels like a North Korean torture tactic. My process of writing will never be the same as someone else, understanding this fact allows me to create individual pieces of writing. Knowing my faults, allows for future improvement. I am aware that I will make grammatical errors, on the other hand I am aware of the impact writing has had on myself. Personally, writing is like therapy, a piece of yourself is in everything you write. Writing allows me to put careful consideration in what I am saying, it also allows me to be self-aware with what I am communicating. When I place my pen down, or shut off my computer, I feel at ease with what I have accomplished, that is
