...Playing as a pixelated, attempted Daniel Radcliffe lookalike opened my eyes as a book love to whole new realm of media that I never truly opened up to. EA Games’ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone for Game Boy Color utilizes techniques to remain true to the story that fans have grown to love, while offering a whole new point of view, from both the book and the movie, in which to immerse oneself in the Wizarding World. Linda Hutcheon cites The Godfather video game in A Theory of Adaptation in order to provide example of the use of voices and images when moving from one work to its adaptation. EA Games follows this structure by including dialog featured in Rowling’s book to better ease the transition between mediums. But unlike The Godfather,...

...Evaluation This is an evaluation on the past three activities I have done for my controlled assessment. Over all, I must say there were parts I struggled in and other parts I did well in. I will talk about the audience purpose and how I made everything suit my target audience. My Logo: The first activity I completed was essential, it was my Logo. The reason why I found it important is because it is mainly what attracts people to getting to know what your project/event/product is all about – without a good logo, I personally think it is very hard to attract people. I started off by sketching out the logo I wanted and what I had in mind. I then was lucky enough an image I loved on google, it is a cartoon of a group of colourful children holding hands in a circle. I thought that really fit in with the theme of my event but my main concern was asking the artist for permission if whether I can use it or not. I then sent an email to him and was lucky enough to get a reply from him saying that I did not need permission to use it since he does it for a hobby, and even if I needed permission he said he would be happy enough to let me use it since it is for a good cause. I then inserted the template/image and added a colourful title and slogan. My title is “Community Spirit” – the reason why I did not choose anything else is because I really did not want to complicate it as if it was named anything else, people would be confused and not really get the aim of the event. I would...

...Don’t let the pixelated and dated graphics fool you: The Sandbox is a great and has been judged as one of the best world-creating games. So yes, it sits in the pedestal, along with more popular games such as Minecraft and Terraria. Speaking of which, it’s highly similar to both games, although the crafting part is replaced by you acting as the creator. Basically, The Sandbox lets you build an on-screen world, something no game has done before. In Minecraft and Terraria, you’re launched into the world. In The Sandbox, YOU MAKE the world. You can choose from over 280 elements to put into your world, and they can interact with each other physically and chemically to give you unpredictable results. For example, you can merge water and soil to...

...Social media continues to permeate all aspects of contemporary life and accountants have embraced it. One thing that continues to challenge accountants, however, is developing accounting logos that are social media-friendly. It makes sense. Social media sites are inconsistent with their profile image rules. That inconsistency makes it difficult to create a logo for all occasions. Keep reading for some tips on how to create social-media friendly accounting logos. Scalable Image Format The JPG image format has one thing going for it. JPG files are smaller than other image types, which means images load faster. JPG is not, however, a scalable image format. Try to make a JPG or other bitmap bigger and it gets that pixelated appearance. Reducing size means...

... Let's face it, despite a lot of effort on their part, GameStop haven't been able to deliver a punch with their Batman Arkham Knight. The game, which was much anticipated right around the hype of the next Batman and Superman movie, could have been a show stopper, but it wasn't. Now, GameStop is doing all it takes to revive flagging interest in the franchise, by introducing interesting downloadable content. Starting with Red Hood, another notorious vigilante, the upcoming lineup of DLC for the game should definitely create some ripples. The Importance of DLC GameStop, after a lot of speculation, has finally confirmed the availability of Batman Arkham Knight's Red Hood DLC. The announcement was made on 22 July, along with a highly pixelated graphic on their Twitter feed. From the graphic, one can make out the red capped vigilante hero springing into action. This new development is not only interesting because of the addition of a new superhero to the game, but also because of the intrigue it adds to the story. With Red Hood joining in the action, GameStop may be dropping in a hint at the real identity of the Arkham Knight, who has so far remained shrouded in mystery. Red Hood Though a vigilante, Red Hood is the antithesis of all that Batman signifies. He is murderous hero, who is ruthless in his quest for justice. Unlike Batman, who goes after the bad guys and leaves the innocent alone, Red Hood does not care about the methods he uses or who stands in his way. Unlike...

Cold fingers make contact with warm glass, leaving smudges in its wake. The world beyond the window begins to define, my eyes’ autofocus kicking in. Outside, Alamogordo’s monsoon season toys with the desert willows as if it was a baby with its playthings. Little toy cars submerged in pixelated stormwater. Wilted purple flowers being dragged in the undertow, dissipating. Jagged clouds rolling over the horizon like the high tide. Pattering static against the window. I can only hope he gets back sooner. ...state’s own public relations campaign which as we know, was faced with the complex task of preparing the global public for a decision which entailed refusing to publish a shocker in age of the dead terrorist” (Schaden 1). To release a picture of a corpse to the public would be horrifying to some people. For the President to announce that Bin Laden was killed wouldn’t be enough, there needed to be proof. A picture in “The Situation Room” showing the emotions who helped lead the mission is proof that he was killed. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the only person seen in the photograph with a binder and a journal. It is unclear what is in her binder and journal. In addition to this, there is a printed picture on her laptop that is pixelated to prevent viewers from knowing what it is. From inference and being able to see a general outline of what is pictured, it could be a safe house for Osama Bin Laden. Hillary Clinton is also the only person pictured covering her mouth gasping. She is wearing her emotions and feelings on her sleeve unlike others pictured. Her feelings are contradicting; her emotions are very visible yet she later runs for President and her emotions being so visible isn’t good if her feelings affect important decision making. Out of 13 people in the photograph taken by Pete Souza, there are only are two women. There are much more men than women in this picture. Society lacks equality when it comes to men and women in the work force, especially in politics...

...Question 1 Part A The German people are extremely private by nature. They do not like publicizing their lives, which is why social networking facilities like blogs, etc. have not caught as much attention in Germany as they have in other countries. Thus, they considered Google Street View as an intrusion into their personal lives, since it could record anything that was happening on a particular road. It caused quite a fuss in Germany and people took up the issue with the court. In a monumental decision in 2010, the Berlin Supreme Court ruled that Street View was legal. People also came up with a term “Verpixelungsrecht”, which means the right to be pixelated. The people asked Google to blur out their faces from the pictures and also blur out the license plates of vehicles and other information like that. Thus, we can see that, overall the German people did not provide a positive response to Google Street View; since they believed it would invade their private lives inside their homes by roaming the streets and taking pictures. Part B Jeff Jarvis tried to convince the German people that Google Street View was not actually invading their privacy, but it was taking pictures of historical sites and national monuments, which were publicly owned. Occasionally, it would include people in its pictures. But these would still be legal as the Google cameras were not focusing on specific individuals. Jeff Jarvis also compared the Google Street View with the European tabloid “Bild”, which...

...consoles, such as Atari and Sega Genesis, to more sophisticated consoles, such as Xbox and PlayStation. Former game generations provided the use of basic colors, shapes and complexity. Present-day game generations provides sprites or characters that display crisp scenes and facial expressions, which lead the gamer to experience an exceptionally realistic gaming atmosphere. Past To understand gaming graphics one must be aware of few terms involving the process. Two dimensional or 2D is a plane of existence moving either vertical or horizontal. Given the limitations on the computer’s processing power, the main character had to be represented as a colored square. Objects and monsters, swords and dragons were all represented by crude pixelated graphics. (McCall, 2012)” For an example, Mario Bros. used two dimensional spirits or characters that were often blocky and exhibited limited movement. (Hampson) The storyline and gaming complexity was very straightforward. The gamer was to read the mission on every screen and actively carry it out. Avoiding the fire breathing dragon was also an obstacle encountered throughout the game. The two dimensional...

...Website requirements for Krystal Tours (Based on 7 C’s): http://krystaltours.com/ Context: This is a website’s layout and overall visual design choices such as colours, graphics, photographs and fonts. The designers of Krystal Tours website used a consistent palette of vibrant tropical Caribbean inspiring colours throughout the site to put users in a relaxing mood. This colour scheme was appropriate for the company’s brand and appealing to its target audience. The photographs were also consistent with a beach and vacation theme creating a story of visiting a fantasy destination. The text was fairly easy to read however, the layout appeared to be cluttered as there was a lot of space that could be utilized, whilst also leaving enough white space for easier reading. The banner at the top could be longer as well, this would allow for clearer wording on the images used and also even higher quality images could be implemented. The “Specials” section and the “Destinations” section are too close, it might be confusing for some users to look at. They have also left enough white space on the sides which as mentioned before helps in reading the content, however the said content could be spaced out a little more to be easier on the eye. Commerce: This is the website’s ability to perform financial transactions. Krystal Tours’ website is not made to have commercial transactions so its need for “https” or the “lock” symbol is non-existent. The company works though emails for further...

...Water-Young-Il Ahn On the day of Friday April 10, 2015, I Angie Ramirez visited the Long Beach Museum of Art and came across a painting that I found breathtaking. The painting happened to be by 80-year-old painter, Young-Il Ahn. Water ALB14, is a painting inspired by the ocean. It is a large piece of art; one that is even taller than me; keeping in mind I am five feet two inches and this painting measures at exactly 72 x 60 inches. It is oil on a canvas and is part of Ahn’s A Memoir of Water Works. This painting is a startling piece of work. In this painting, Ahn uses bold colors and texture to mimic the immensity of the ocean and the constant movement of the waves. He uses mostly different shades of blue, red, green, and yellow. The bright colors he uses are more of a representation of his own creative style. Ahn captures a more private moment using bold colors creating an emotional impact. He used bright colors and elaborately used more of a royal blue than red, yellow, and green. . He also used graceful and sensuous lines that seem to appear as small brushstrokes. The surfaces on this painting are textured beautifully and do happen to show a bit of small harsh lines, almost like dabs giving the artwork a dramatic feel. This work of art is represented as non-representational art because it takes nothing from reality. It is created purely for aesthetic reasons. The intent was to use the elements and principles of art in a way that results in a visually stimulating work. Ahn...

...Jessica Bellows ENGL 1111 January 28, 2014 I probably lock eyes with a few hundred people every day. Some familiar, some new, some forgotten five seconds afterward. It seems, and for the most part it is, subconscious. I recognize someone and their being and their existence, and then I move on. Maybe smile a bit if the contact is held for a second too long, just to keep things from getting awkward. It happens every day. And I think nothing of it. His eyes, however, are different. Thinking nothing of them couldn’t be further from the truth. Every time I’m around him he gives me the same look – whether it’s given with the intention to remind me that he loves me or to playfully tell me I’m an idiot, it doesn’t matter. Any mood he’s in or thought he’s having is written clearly all over them. I proudly admit to being one of the few couples who didn’t let a few states (ten, to be exact) put an end to an otherwise perfect relationship. I was lucky enough to have had the honor and the privilege of knowing him throughout high school, purely through friendship until senior year. We said our goodbyes, moved into our respective schools, made our own friends and smoothly transitioned into a new, exciting part of our lives - one without having each other just down the road. We had made it through one year together, and I guess you could say we decided to switch it up a bit for year number two. I hadn’t locked eyes with him in exactly fifty-one days. And quite frankly, I had never...

...the ease of access to mature games. The addictive nature of the video games children play is quite revolting. Most children, that actively play videos games, often have a rather glazed over look in their eyes. Like the junkies shown on television, the only time they lose this glaze is if someone starts talking about a video game. According to an article written by Kara Shemin, “a recent study published in the journal Pediatrics indicates that heavy video gaming can become habit-forming for children, pre-teens, and teens and lead to depression, social phobias, and even poor academic performance.” (Shemin) Amazingly, it does not matter what game, or gaming system children are playing, the results are the same. For instance, Minecraft, a pixelated game about placing and breaking blocks, appears to be a very basic and boring game. However, most kids that actively play video games know or play this game extensively. Regardless, the difference in today’s games and yesterday’s games is that yesterday’s games were for rainy days, or during the...

Lossy compression is the type of compression method that when compressed and decompressed the file will lose the quality of the picture or video. Lossless compression is the type of compression that when compressed it can be decompressed without losing any of the quality. Before compression After compression How compression effects the quality of output: When a file is compressed it will sized down, and information will be sized down to make the file size a lot smaller, doing this using Lossy compression, will result in information being lost, which will then result in the document being resized to the original size, but becoming pixelated and unclear.
