James Poulos Summary James Poulos believed President Trump’s inaugural address was excellent. Donald Trump modified previous president’s speeches for his address. A main theme of Trump’s speech was the “America First” policy. The President explained the policy is a necessity not an idea of greed or pride. Poulos believed that Trump addressed the nation without mentioning bargainers and “the art of the deal”. The author mentioned how America turned against commerce as a source of unity. The article mentions Tocqueville’s analysis of Americans. Tocqueville observed that American’s were prideful when executing commerce. Trump focused on the people fixing the problems not just him. Trump discussed the power shifting from Washington D.C. to the American People. The idea is a bold statement, because for years the government has let the citizens have little say in what the government decides. According to Cooper the Trump administration is appalling, but the Obama administration was not excellent. Obama lead America into a financial crisis in 2009, and withdrew troops from Iraq prematurely, causing terrorist groups room to grow. Obama created Obamacare, which caused more taxes instead of decreasing the money put into Obamacare. Cooper boldly stated the cuts on Medicare and Medicaid will kill tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands of people, because they will not be have access to medicare. The people who needed Obamacare were lazy and did not get a substantial occupation. People who are physically incapable of finding a job need government paid healthcare, but not the lazy citizens. Cooper and other critics think Trump is stockpiling his cabinet with people who are rich donors for the Republican party. Obama did the exact same thing when he was elected. Critics believe the President copied his plans from the Heritage Foundation. The foundation does research on political topics, making it a valid source of information Trump can

... and they’re bringing those problems to us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime”(Donald Trump, “Donald Trump’s Presidential Announcement Speech”). According to the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, in this quote Trump was able to falsely single out Mexican immigrants as the cause of socio-economic problems plaguing white working class voters(Blakey). Trump was then able to swoop in and provide the seemingly simple solution of building a wall. This gave voters the ‘flattering’ impression that he understands their problems and has a surefire solution. President Trump also flattered voters by promising to redistribute power to the people. For instance, in his inauguration speech he...
