...Write a short essay on Druids and similar priests in Europe B.C. In this essay I will compare the druids, so the Celtic religion to the Greek ancient religion. There are similarities but most of the items are differences. Druids were the priests of the Celtic tribe. They had great power because of their spread of belief and for the role they had in the society. First of all, they could go over a ruler. So the druids were acting like judges, advisers, doctors but also as magicians or poets. Druids had ceremonies of mistletoe that involved animal sacrifice it was also a tradition for the Greek tribes. They both thought that their gods need them to pay in some form of a sacrilege. But the druids were also known for the human sacrifice. They strongly believe in the soul that is not dying but it takes another body. This sacrifice it was an act of bravery, of approaching god. Also the druids had this Underworld, were to be found fairies as the guardians. Greek priests were not forming a college of priests like the druids, they were separated. Each priest had his deity to worship and they remain devoted to that only god. “The priest’s role was not that of a rabbi or pastor – he tended not the worshipers but the deity. He would serve only the cult of one deity, and his authority as priest was limited to the cult of that deity. “ As for the rituals, priests would deliver prayers; they had libations all in a religious ceremony. The animal sacrifice was often closed with the analysis...

...one faithful day, I suddenly want to confess my sins because it doesn’t only burdens me but it’s a thing, I can’t overlook into anymore. A lot has happened and I have not only hurt others but also, my own family. I have sum up, all of my courage to confess it all to the Lord. As I got my turn to confess, I suddenly got scared and wanted to run away. I wanted to forget it all but I can’t so I decided to confess. As I sit there and talk for ten minutes or so. I feel really happy that there is someone I could talk to and was listening to me that time. I couldn’t talk it out with my friends and even my family. Maybe I just wanted someone with a kind heart that would listen to me through the end of the story. As I got the absolution from the priest and it all ended well. It feels like I am flying through the clouds and that thing that was holding onto me was suddenly gone. I was happy to hear what he said to me that time. He said that “You could always come here and I would welcome you, anytime”. I was so moved that my tears started falling and couldn’t hold it off, anymore. I was really happy and blessed that day. Confession is a very intimate experience because individual confessions are made private. There's an old saying, "God hates the sin, not the sinner." Just as a loving mother disapproves of those destructive behaviours which harm her child, so God condemns our sins. So while it's true that when you sin you turn away from God, it does not follow that God...

...Heather Langness English 121 12:00pm Gregg Aamot Father Gregory Schaffer This real life experience is about a priest who had the courage to stand up for the rights and privileges of the oppressed natives of Guatemala. When he was thirty-eight years old, Father Gregory Schaffer, whom I traveled with on a mission trip to San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala— in July of 2011— who, had helped Father Gregory with the missions, made the self-sacrificing journey of walking from St. Paul, MN to Guatemala, which is approximately 3,000 miles. He made this difficult trip for the sole purpose of raising money to aid his project of helping the poor of Guatemala. The natives, or Mayans, lived in inhumane conditions such as dirt-floored huts made of tin with no electricity or clean water. Father Schaffer wanted to help these people so greatly, that he was willing to sacrifice the comforts of living in the United States to live with and like the people he was determined to help. The Mayans had been oppressed by a dictatorial government for years, which had badly harmed their environment and kept them in a constant state of fear. In the midst of these problems, Father Schaffer came to offer help to the poverty-afflicted peoples. Father Schaffer's true courage to stand up for the poor of Guatemala was put to the test, when, in the 1980's, there were armed campaigns pointed at the natives of Guatemala. Even though he knew that he could be killed at any time for helping the people of Guatemala,...

...surrounding Christ vary from Saints to musicians, angles, multitudes of followers, and the Virgin Mary. The figures all seem to be swirling among silky clouds around Christ which gives each figure a distinct position and proportion in the painting, some closer up and distinctive, other more further away and faded. The burial scene directly below the heavens has the Count Orgaz as the focal point and he is positioned near the lowest part of the painting and perpendicular to Christ. The mourners around the Count Orgaz are dressed in formal coats of black and all are similarly positioned in the background. The Count Orgaz himself is richly dressed in the foreground, in plates of black armor with gold ornations, and he is being lowered by two priests who are dressed in bright golden garbs with slight patterns of red. When...

...Legal Issues in Ministry Pierce Grayson Monday, June 21, 2010 Yorba Linda Calvary Baptist Church Scandal Accountability is something that we all need to experience in our lives. It’s great for people struggling with addictions and in need of prayer and support. It's also a safeguard against other kinds of temptations that the Yorba Linda Calvary Baptist Church in Yorba Linda, California experienced the late 1990s. The senior pastor Richard Cunningham and his son, who later became the senior pastor, Philip Cunningham, were charged with theft, fraud and forgery when they took over 3.1 million dollars from the church's, and the church's private school's, bank accounts for their own personal expenses including luxury homes and cars. The church secretary Mandy DiAddezio testified that, "Philip Cunningham at times paid his personal credit card using school funds, booking them as travel expenses, and would book payments for his dry-cleaning bill as janitorial expenses. But he also put his own money into the school account when it was low, she said". Philip also paid his children's college tuition with the funds from the church's school's bank account while saying that the church board had approved it. The problem with this is that, according to a former board member at the church, the board only met 2-3 times a year and they were never given proper financial statements or documents to look over. It was always hand-written on a piece of paper...

...the Holy Spirit, Baptism is the very first sacrament. It is an official declaration of becoming a Christian and having the Holy Spirit enter you. During baptism the person that is getting baptised gets emerged in the water three times then the priest anoints them 36 times with the holy chrism which is also known as the mayroun. The person that is getting baptised makes a public confession of their faith. First they turn to the west which is a symbol of darkness and death. Then they turn east which represents life and light. At the end of Baptism the sin of Adam is washed away and a new soul is declared. Overall, after a child is baptised, it is then the responsibility for the parents to keep them on the right track and fallow Christ. Confirmation John 3:3-5 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. After a childhood or anyone else has been baptised and anointed with the Holy Chrism, the priest usually places a crown upon their head and a scarlet ribbon around their chest. The crown that is put on the head is a symbol of the Crown of Heaven. A sign that new baptised human is now a child of God; the child of King of Kings and Lord of Lords...

At Fifteen years of age Vincent was sent as a boarder to the Franciscan College at Dax and was ordained to the priesthood in 1600. It is said Saint Vincent was seized by pirates while going from Marseille to Narbonne in 1606; sold into slavery in Tunisa and escaped and returned to France some months later. Like many of his contemporaneous, Vincent saw the priesthood as a means of advancement, and in 1613 he was presented with a golden opportunity when he was appointed to service with the Gondis, one of the most influential families in France. He spent some 20 years as a parish priest and chaplain to this aristocratic family. He was also chaplain general of the galleys of France and as such tried to aid the sea slaves. In 1617 he founded the first Confraternity of Charity, made up of wealthy women working among the sick and poor in Châtillon-les-Dombes, near Lyon. In 1622 he was appointed Superior of the Parisian Convents of the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary by the French prelate St Francis of Sales. ...Douglas Owens Julie Ostrowski ENG 112 16 April 2015 First Confession I was once a Catholic, then I was for it, but now I am against it. Frank O’Connor’s short story, “The First Confession’, was an interesting read. The story is brief, told by a seven year old boy named Jackie, about to make his first confession, in order to make the sacrament of Holy Communion. The story is set in Ireland, around the first quarter of the 20th Century. Priests, at this time, “became their communities moral policemen, and they played a major role throughout society.” For most people, family is a sense of great joy. Jackie is a dynamic character, and is the protagonist of the story. We learn that he hates his grandmother and sister, and is afraid of his first confession. Jackie is out of sorts because his grandmother has moved from the country to live with his family. He is quite disgusted with her love of porter beer, bare footed, and eating potatoes with her hands at dinner. Jackie considers his grandmother a lousy cook, who does not wash her hand before she prepares supper. Nora is Jackie’s older sister, and cajoles her grandmother into giving her a penny every Friday from her pension; something Jackie could not do. Nora- the antagonist. The family relationships in this story are interesting. The relationships in Jackie’s family, at first seem unusual, as every family has its special dynamics. Jackie sees his grandmother as a woman that has invaded his home, and strained the...

...I was call from God to be more than average on a new program, policy and procedures for day cares in Georgia. This program will be required for all new and old day cares in the next two years to start and complete before they receive their new or yearly license. The entire process was to adapt to recent changes for a new program called Georgia’s Quality Rated. Georgia Governor asked Bright From the Start to find volunteer day cares, that never received any compliance, to commit to the program. As a day care owner, being in business for more than 21 years, it was hard for me to accept the changes. I kept putting the process off until one day a Quality Rated Trainer asked me what was wrong and I explained why I was running from the process....

...Research Question: What is it that allows Walt to finally confess his true burdens in the scenes where he receives a reading from the shaman, he finally goes to confession with the priest, and he gives his final real confession to Thao? Brian Neuman Dr. Paul McCormick English 110.01 29 February 2012 Clever Title War is hell they say, and so far that statement has held up to itself. After a man has experienced war it changes him for better or worse. The main character in Gran Torino, Walt, is one such example of a man touched by war. The things that Walt has seen and done have affected him, and hardened him, both inside and out. However even the hardest shell can be cracked. In the film it is Walt’s interactions with caring individuals allow him to finally relieve the burden that he is carrying. Walt is quickly portrayed as a skeptic, but nevertheless when he visits Sue’s family he allows the family shaman to do a reading of him. With us having seen Walt’s tendencies, it is quite surprising that he agrees to such a strange ritual. He seemingly agrees just to humor Sue, but is surprised with what he is told. The shaman hits the issues that are bothering Walt more than anyone else, “he says you have no happiness in your life. It’s like you’re not at peace.” You can see just from Walt’s reaction how true that these words are. By analyzing this scene you can learn a few things about Walt. The most important is the fact that he is not only unhappy with the death of his wife...

...Table of Contents Introduction………………………………………………………………………...1 Keeping Priorities In Check………………………………………………………..1 Prioritizing Time……………………………………………………………………3 The Hand Shake…………………………………………………………………….4 Setting Boundaries……………………………………………………………….. 4 Conclusion………………………………………………………………………….5 Bibliography…………………………………………………………………..6 & 7 i Introductio My dad always told me when it came to priorities, that it was always supposed to be God, family, then everything else. Now that I do have girlfriend, whom I am happily in a very serious relationship with, my dad says my priorities should be: 1st God, 2nd my girlfriend and family, 3rd should be whatever else I value. This reflects the balance that pastors must deal with on a daily basis, how to deal with a ministry while maintaining a healthy family life. My dad taught me exactly what pastors must do when they prioritize, to put God as number one, then focus on your family, and finally the church ministry. Keeping Priorities In Check There have been many cases where the pastor puts the ministry as number one on their list, then God, and then their families. An instance would be that they feel that God gave them their calling, they follow it, but they forget to keep a daily devotional life with the One who gave them the calling. But this isn’t the correct way to set one’s priorities. Although a pastor may justify himself in that the ministry was his calling, I don’t believe that is...

Then, of course, it all came out; Father gave me a flaking; Mother interfered, and for days after that he didn't speak to me and Mother barely spoke to Nora.” Even thou Jackie is really nervous and afraid for his first confession, because he doesn’t want to tell the priest he...

...to revolt against Spanish regime in the Philippines. Basilio refused because he wanted to finish his studies. While the Kapitan Heneral was having a good time in Los Banos, Filipino students laid a plea to his majesty (Kap. Heneral) for him to establish an academy of Spanish language. This appeal was not approved, as what the students wished, because they learned that the priests are going to manage the the academy, and the students will be just the followers of the priests. When that happens, they will have no rights to whatever they want for the academy. While this was happening, Simon met up with Basilio at persuaded him again to join his cause to revolt and head a group that break into the convent of Santa Clara to get Maria Clara. But the plan was not acted out because Maria Clara died that afternoon. On the other hand, the students held a feast in Panciteria Macanista de Buen Gusto as a consolation to themselves for the disapproval of their proposal to establish the academy. In their speeches while eating, they relentlessly criticized the priests. This event came to the knowledge of the priests, so this was what happened:...
