...A project planning problem A major project-planning problem was encountered in this project: a very low-level involvement of the end-users during the capture of the project requirements. Initially, the project team assumed that a model and a list of product requirements for a successful competitive intelligence system were relatively well known across the tourism industry. Therefore (and probably also as a result of a pressing need of rushing into implementation) not much effort was allocated on planning which were to be the functional characteristics of the system to be created –instead, the plan was to get an external team of consultants to ‘borrow’ this information from others. So, various sectors of the organization were left uninvolved in the scope management process. However, as it was later determined, the project’s main objective was not to implement a new ‘technology’, but in fact to perform a revolutionary change in the organization’s philosophy. The various line managers in particular were to have a crucial role in the new modus operandi, as they would be responsible for the analysis of the information collected, so it was crucial to listen to their views. Another negative consequence of not involving the project’s end-users in the planning process is team members’ resistance. When the members of an organization perceive a project as a mandatory change on their performance, opposition and internal battles arise. In conclusion, a higher involvement of...

...The Problem-Based-Learning Project that I completed in this class was my favorite project that i’ve done in my school career thus far. This assignment had a perfect balance of professionalism, structure, and fun. I was allowed to choose a topic I was passionate about and apply everything that I have learned from all of my English and Science teachers. I believe kids, especially students, tend to do better on projects or even tests when they enjoy the topic. We are also able to stay on task and take initiative. Not only did I learn learn new things when researching my topic, I also got to share what I learned with my peers. Completing this project taught me about myself, what interests me, and what environment I enjoy working in. Overall, I enjoyed my PBL experience. As always, there were positive and negative moments. My favorite moments were ones where everything fell into place. Once we picked our topic, it was easy for us to work together. My work ethic and drive also made my experience better. If I would not have been on top of my work, this project would have been torture. On the other hand, the negative moments were pretty rough. While doing this project I often found myself frustrated, both with myself and my group. At certain times, continuing this project and working with my partners seemed pointless. Honestly, there were more challenges of learning in this...

...Problem Solving Theory Project GS1140 08-13-2014 Antonio Pierce & Dana Jackson Thinking about a recurring problem in my life was tough, being that I’ve just closed on a home, working 45-50 hours a week as a store manager, and going to school , are all their own problems in themselves. The common denominator in all three of these life altering events would be time allocation. Given 24 hours, I have to figure out the best way to divide every single step throughout the day, for the next couple of years to be beneficial to myself as well as my household. My morals or ethics come down to family being the most important in my life. I need correct time allocation to not only help handle the day to day responsibilities that come from caring for my first household. But also satisfying the time spent with my girlfriend in .the same process. This causes a severe split between job and school as well. I need to work in order to provide my half of the bills and relationship spending. But also need school to further advance in my career and make a better living. As the saying goes “Work smarter not harder”. With a better education I can advance to make money as well as work less to satisfy my home and relationship needs. At first I thought the problem was I was doing too much at one time. The real problem is “How to create more time to allocate to my responsibilities simultaneously”. Incorrect time management could possibly lead into failures in my relationship, foreclosure on my home...

But however there are people against the procedures or the methods we have to ensure national security. And through this project I would try to explain some of them and their advantages and disadvantages. There are many complaints about the screening procedures at airports; people understand that it’s important to make sure we enforce these procedures but at the same time they feel humiliated and traumatized by them, these procedures are not going to disappear just because people are complaining about them, but we sure can find a way to make them less difficult that way people won’t feel the way they feel now. ...Case Overview Barbara is assigned as the project manager for a competitive bidding job at her company. Typically RFP’s (requests for proposals) at her company are handled by a group of senior managers who will review the RFP and make a decision on whether to proceed. Once the senior managers approve, the proposal department will take over to begin estimating all work along with the help of functional managers, if there is no previous history regarding the deliverables. Generally the project manager will come into the picture after a contract is awarded and not during the bidding process, however Barbara was placed into the project during the bidding phase. Barbara was more skeptical about the estimates than a project manager normally is and decided to review the estimates prior to submitting. After Barbara’s review, it was determined that the estimators arrived at 12 weeks using one grade 7 employee full time on one of the most critical tasks for the project. Because Barbara had experience performing this task on previous projects, she was certain that the task would take one full time employee 14 weeks to complete unless the project was smaller and less complex, so she questioned the estimators. Barbara discovered that the estimators had used a three-point estimate that did not take into account the complexity of this project and perhaps a triangular estimate would have been a better method to use to arrive at 13 weeks. This estimate still left about a week difference...

...ORGANIZATIONAL PROBLEMS AS A RESULT OF POOR COMMUNICATION By Daniel Wachira Elias Ochieng Enock Onyango Odhiambo Flavia Nasambu Okanya James Etyang Janet Murugi Margaret Keyum Mohammed Godana Muchira Muchiri Nicholas Ruttoh Sharon Njoroge A Case Study ABSTRACT Communication is a two way process that involves sharing ideas, information, and messages amongst individuals using a specific media or channel. Communication is deemed incomplete without a feedback. Communication includes verbal and nonverbal communication (such as facial expressions, body language, or gestures, visual communication such as the use of images or pictures, such as painting, photography). Communication is a vital part of personal life and is also important in business, education, and any other situations where people encounter each other (Encarta, 1998). Organizational communication is largely focused upon building relationships, or repeated interpersonal interactions, with internal organizational members and interested external publics. For organizations to be successful they must have competent communicators. This case study is an attempt to bring forth, analyze and compare different aspects of workplace communication. It focuses in communication which is considered a significant factor for an organization‘s internal and external progress. It is a study on literature, which aims to link the literature findings with a real case of a company which lacks effective organizational/workplace communication...

...Analysis of Case Study Christopher Rubio Week 4 HCS/483 When ever an organization is thinking of implementing a New It Initiative they must ensure that they are well organized and fully understand the length and time a project may take. According to Cook “ Project failure occurs when a project is significantly over budget, takes must longer than estimated timeline, or has to be terminated because of so many problems have occurred that proceeding is no longer judged to be viable.” With Memorial Health System failed implementation of a CPOE system they had many problems including an over budgeted project, Lack of belief in project, Insufficient leadership support, Failure to respect uncertainty, Failure to anticipate short-term disruptions, and initiative undernourishment. In this paper we will discuss all six of these problems along with give possible solutions to each of them. Failure to respect uncertainty: When the system was finally implemented it was had a lot of bugs in the system. They implemented the system at all of facilities. Because of this as well as a few other issues such as lack of training the system was taken offline and they continued with the old system. The solution to this problem would have been to implement the system in one location instead of the entire hospital. This place can be used as the test facility in which you can do two things. One you can work all the bugs out and the other would be to use it as a training facility where you can send...

...Performing stage because the other team members were handling their part of the paper, the professor advised the team that they must deal with the problems within the group first. Christine skipped the Forming stage and based her opinion of her team mates on what she observed about them. Had she got to know them by meeting with them together or one on one, she could have gotten to see if her observation were accurate. It would have also given the team am insight on any outside issues that may affect the team. There was also no relationship with the entire team. Problem Identification The team was aware there was a problem with Mike’s participation (already identified as a clown based on Christine’s observation), but he was approached about his behavior and lack of contribution to the team. Christine may have been an organized hard working student, but she seems to lack skills in dealing with conflict. It became a big deal to Mike when he assumed that the team was meeting without him. Even after explaining the impromptu get together Mike still believed what his eyes saw and distanced himself again. Any of the team members could have reached out to Mike to get him to understand. There was clearly hostility within the team and it was coming from one source. This made it apparent that the problems were getting worse and the team’s project was at stake if nothing was to change about Mike’s behavior. Retrospective Evaluation The disconnection between the team and Mike could...

...İsmail Tugay Güzel 16.02.2016 21504022 MBA 542Spring 2016 Assignment I Vitreon Corporation: The Hyalite Project 9-607-031 This case brings forth issues about process yields and productivity. Productivity is simply a measure of how much output(s) one gets out of given input(s). You may find more information on how to measure and use productivity in your mandatory and recommended textbooks. To prepare for the case, consider the following assignments. Q1. What is the crisis at Vitreon? What are the root causes of this crisis? The main problem at Vitreon is the inefficiency of Hyalite manufacturing process. After 5 years they couldn’t be able to meet the demand because of their inefficient production at Fontana plant. One of the root causes is the Fontana plant organization. According to the team the organization of the plant has some problems. Moreover, the plant manager, MacIntosh, is stubborn about not cooperating with M&E Project. That also causes problems too. Secondly, the disagreement between Andrew and MacIntosh causes problem remain unsolved. Another cause is the misallocating of engineering resources among various Vitreon’s plants. There had been a change between plants and some experts moved from Fontana plant to Spoken plant. Hence, there is a lack of experience on people work in Fontana plant. Q2. As Michael Andrews, how would you resolve this crisis? First, I would start with changing the organization including the plant...

...drilling operation seriously and plan for potential problems. There should have been backup protections to prevent accidents like the one that occurred. At the very least they should have practiced concurrent control. At the first signs of a problem they should have taken whatever actions were necessary to prevent the type of disaster that occurred. 2. Using Exhibit 18-2, explain what BP could have done better. First the company needed to measure their actual performance. They needed to look at their practices and analyze the data that they were receiving from engineers on the site to determine whether or not the work was being completed in the proper manner. Once this data was collected it needed to be analyzed in an objective way and compared to both the internal standards and the external regulations set by governing bodies for oil drilling operations. When issues were discovered they needed to be taken seriously by people at all levels of the company and appropriate action needed to be taken to prevent the explosion which endangered both BP employees and residents in the area. Management needed to act quickly and in whatever manner was necessary to prevent the identified problems from escalating. 3. Why do you think company employees ignored the red flags? How could such behavior be changed in the future? There are likely multiple reasons. It sounds as if the company was putting pressure on those involved in the project to...

...to have all new hires working by July. A month prior the orientation date, Monica contacts Carl to ask him how the training schedule is going, Carl assures Monica that everything would be arranged on time to start the hire. After memorial day Carl is ready to revise the paperwork needed on the new hires, he encounters with some problems such as paperwork not being completed and drug test not done on the new hires. Carl also has a problem with the orientation room being reserved the whole month by Joe from technology to perform computer-training seminars on new database software implementation. Background This case identifies the problems involved in the recruitment of 15 new hires. This case analysis will talk about some issues that could influence the success or failure of Carl’s effort to accomplish the hiring. The task assigned would not be a problem or a concern if other options had been offered to Carl before he started the hiring. This process shapes into something different due to curls lack of experience. New procedures should be taken before the day of the orientation of new hires to accomplish the task. Key Problems The key problems on Carl situation start on his lack of inexperience with hiring new employees. When Carl was hired he should have been instructed on how to conduct new hire orientations. Carl also had no time to review applications or checking on time for health and drug screening being done on the new trainees. Carl also never checked if the orientation...

...excellent example of how teams fail and fall apart related to a breakdown or lack of effective communication between all parties involved. Thus, it is important to acknowledge that a leader has responsibility to lead the team, but the members also must be involved in order to complete the project effectively and in a timely manner. Part I. Group Development After review of the case and data from the textbook, the group begins the storming stage. “The storming stage of team development is a period of high emotionality and tension among the group members. During this stage, hostility and infighting may occur, and the team typically experiences many changes” (Schermerhorn, 2010). Noticeably, hostility and fighting came from Mike and his perceptions about how the group was excluding him from meetings, which wasn’t an accurate perception. One could determine that if Mike would participate in the workload he could become a viable player in the team. Mike hasn’t performed to the degree as other group members have because of personal problems. Part II: Problem Identification There are many problems associated with the details provided in this case. However, the primary problem is a lack of effective communication between the team leader, Christine and a team member, Mike. Mike feels he is being left out when it comes to important decisions being made by the group. It seems that...

...Christine Crocker GS1140 Problem Solving Theory Dr. Tiera Coston 4/7/2012 In the greater Baton Rouge area, there are 270 automotive and collision repair businesses. Within three miles from Fisher’s Automotive, where my husband Paul works, there are 40 shops that are providing some of the same services as Fisher’s. Of those 40, 26 perform collision repair. Before I started school, I worked at Fisher’s with Paul. I was a body technician and helped with some of the office duties. Paul is still currently the head painter. The owner, Vic Fisher, has recently seen a decline in business on the collision side. If the business is to remain open, which will allow Paul to keep his job and provide for his family, the staff at Fishers needs to figure out what they can do to bring in more business. The questions that need to be answered are: How is Fisher’s Automotive going to get a competitive edge on its competition in the greater Baton Rouge area? Is there an untapped source of revenue that can single it out from the other shops? Is there a service currently not being provided in Baton Rouge? Answering these questions may very well be the solution that they are looking for. The building that Fisher’s Automotive is in was designed to be a warehouse and is not suitable for what they are using it for. It is really run down, old looking, and in need of remodeling. One of the first places that they need to remodel is the office area. By doing that, Fisher’s will be able to showcase...
