1) What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of this research study was to interpret the perception and experience of the older adults which are insulin depended in the rural areas and their self-management. The aim was to gather the information and pursue a consideration of a new model for educating patients on diabetes.

2) What is the research question (or questions)? This may be implicit or explicit.
In the older adult population, should there be guidelines created for diabetic management?

3) Did the authors describe the research design of this study? If so, give a description.
It was a phenomenology study that was utilized to capture the perception and experience of the older adult, using unstructured interviews.

4) Describe …show more content…
Both Journal and iPad entrees were collected via email on a weekly basis.

17) How were the data analyzed?
The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, pre-intervention, mid-intervention and post intervention were all obtained. Also analyzed with repeated measure analysis and the mixed models analysis.
18) Discuss the limitations found in the study?
A limitation that was found during the study was reported by the patients as they stated that the portion where they need to enter their foods was tedious as well as other self-reporting measures. The small sample, had satisfying glycemic control and higher self-efficacy scores.

19) Discuss the authors' conclusions. Do you feel these conclusions are based on the data that they collected? In their conclusion it stated that "Research is needed to evaluate the most effective forms of technology for promoting diabetes self-management." (p. 236). Technology is on the rise which means that physicians as well as health care providers could find other ways to help patients with their diabetic self-management control. Also, my personal belief is that due to the limitations found in the study it stops the researchers from finding a pattern that would be

Asking the Right Questions in the Business Research Process

...Literature Review Asking the Right Questions in the Business Research Process Liberty University Abstract This paper seeks to briefly define the topic of business research, then explore the various steps within the associated process while revisiting the issue of what questions are appropriate to ask as the researcher during each of these steps. This will be accomplished by conducting a literary review of the subject in order to gain a general understanding of how the academic community views the business research process. The paper will be divided into two main sections. These main sections include the business research process, and ethical considerations thereof, and research design. By the end of the literary review, the reader should have a good understanding of not only the business research process as a whole, but how to ask the right questions during each step in order to maximize the impact of the study and ultimately lead to better decisions made with the findings. Literature Review Introduction The business research process is one riddled with decision points. Each step comes with many complexities and options that must be carefully considered in order for the researcher to get the best final product possible. From identifying the manager’s question to detailing the wording for a survey to choosing a report format, the researcher must be aware of not only what options are available to him, but also what questions should be asked along...

... we have to go through reasoning and research. Qualitative research in a complex analysis and is characterized by mathematical calculations but no experimentally. Quantitative research however is carried out experimentally and relies and builds on mathematical techniques such as quality, frequency and amount etc. Qualitative analysis provides more details and is more focused and deep process. Qualitative analysis put emphasis on how and what meaning is given to a certain situation.  Qualitative approach is subjective and has understanding nature. In this type of research, the researcher has to engage more with the subject under consideration. This type of research is also referred to as interpretative research, understanding and gathering information and interpreting it with respect to daily life. Quantitative research method involves the mathematical parameters such as height, weight and other parameters which have numerical value. The emphasis of this type of research is on the comparison between different variable of the system.   So it depends on mathematical techniques and procedures such as mean, median, frequency and other statistical procedures. According to Kotler et al “Marketing research is a process that identifies and defines marketing opportunities and problems, monitors and evaluates marketing actions and performance, and communicates the findings and implications to managements.”   This means that marketing research is the collection, evaluation and recording...

The first stage in the innovation process is to find the “new” ideas and insights to commercialize. 2-To enable successful innovation, CEOs need to create both an innovation agenda and a culture tolerant of risk. This includes setting expectations for innovation, and developing methods to measure the success of innovation activities. 3- Transforming ideas to novel products, processes and services Effectively transforming ideas to commercially useful applications is not easy, and many innovations fail in this stage of the process. 4- Scaling value creation CEOs can realize value from innovations when they scale to successfully help to create significant revenues or generate substantial savings. Process vs Product innovation Product innovations are embodied in the outputs of an organization—its goods or services. For example, Honda's development of a new hybrid electric vehicle is a product innovation. Process innovations are innovations in the way an organization conducts its business, such as in the techniques of producing or marketing goods or services. Process innovations are often oriented toward improving the effectiveness or efficiency of production by, for example, reducing defect rates or increasing the quantity that may be produced in a given time. For example, a process innovation at a biotechnology firm might entail developing a...

According to Barbie (2010) descriptive design focuses on describing situations. The descriptive designs in a social research are geared to answer the “what, where, when and how” questions normally asked in research. Furthermore, Bickman and Rog (1998) also suggest that descriptive studies can answer questions such as “what is” or “what was.” This research design was therefore chosen as most of the questions in this study are the “what” questions. For instance the study will...

Compare And Contrast Rottmann, Sacks, And Reeve

...Rottmann, Sacks, and Reeve (2015) uses comparative analysis of qualitative data, which they collected through nine focus groups and seven interviews. Beck (2014) utilize a mixed methods methodology to try and determine what predicts servant leadership behaviors. This research was conducted because one of the major problems with servant leadership is the lack of empirical research conducted in this area. The mixed method research model was used because the researcher did not believe that only a qualitative or quantitative research study would give a complete picture of the topic. The researcher selected the servant leadership questionnaire (SLQ), which was divided into two parts. I have been familiar with qualitative, quantitative and the mixed...

Why Do People Do Volunteer Work-Research Proposal

...657101 COVER LETTER Mr James Guilder Kenneth Copeland Ministries Milton Office Park Avocet Close Bromhoff 2196 Dear Sir In our most recent meeting you expressed some frustration at the ministries inability to retain volunteers for its various projects. I believe I may be able to assist in this regard. As you know, I am currently an honours student in Psychology at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and as such I have a special interest in the factors which motivate the behaviour of different individuals. As part of my honours course work I am required to complete a research project, which is to be submitted to my peers for review. My research topic for my course work is “Why do people do volunteer work?” Since this research topic could potentially aid the ministry in better understanding how to attract and retain volunteers it seems appropriate to propose and request permission to complete this research project on behalf of the ministry. I therefore herewith include my research proposal. I hope to hear from you soon. Kind regards, Candice Keen 5 Disa Street Morningside Ext 2 2196 Page 2 Sandton Why volunteer? Hard Body Research Plan

...Eshon Howard Bus 339 Marketing Research Hard Body Research Plan Victor Olufeso Introduction The Hard Body Haulers is a local moving company that is not experiencing consistent growth in revenue. The company was founded in 2008 and is located in Cleveland, Ohio; one of the fastest shrinking cities in terms of population in the United States (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/3916000.html, 2006). This along with the high number of home foreclosures in the area indicates that people in the area are relocating to other dwellings. In contrast, the level of people unemployed in the area indicate that people do not have the discretionary resources available to them to hire a mover and are instead utilizing do it yourself alternatives (http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf, 2011). Moving costs are expensive to consumers in a recessive economy. Much of the cost of that the moving companies incur are fixed costs in the form of equipment such as vehicle maintenance, packaging supplies, and lifting equipment. Secondly, there is a high cost insurance and licensing requirements that every moving company must have in order to be in compliance with the State of Ohio (http://www.puco.ohio.gov/puco/, 2011). The availability of the moving company can also increase the costs considering that most moving companies are busiest on the last ten days of the month (Cohn, 2010). Finally, moving can be a very time consuming process. So moving companies generally charge on an hourly...

Social Work

...Since time immemorial, research has been part of human life. There have been several research methods that have been used in conducting different research projects. Due, to different aims and objectives various researchers pick on different research methods in doing research. This essay seeks to look at two major research methods namely quantitative research and qualitative research method. The purpose of this essay is to analyze four main differences between quantitative and qualitative research. Amongst the key points to be examined in this essay include the difference in the data format, difference in their analytical objectives and flexibility in their study design. To fully understand, the foregoing essay there is need to define the term Research. Leedy and Ormrod (2001), define research as the process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting data in order to understand a phenomenon. Allaga and Gunderson (2000), defines Quantitative Research as explaining phenomena by collecting numerical data that are analyzed using mathematically based (in particular statistics). Creswell (2002), posits that Quantitative research uses mathematical models as methodology of data analysis, he further asserts that if there are no numbers involved, then it’s not quantitative. Qualitative research is an unfolding model that occurs in the natural setting that enables the researcher to a level of detail from high involvement in the actual experiences, Creswell (2003). Bryman (2008) asserts...

Research Methods Assignment

...International Security and Conflict Research Methods Assignment In the field of political and international relations studies, there are two broad types of research methods, which include and combine various research methods, based on its designs and core principles, and they are quantitative and qualitative research methods. Also, there is the third one, called experimental research method, which does not fit into qualitative and quantitative methods, but rather constitutes separate research design, although it might be based on qualitative and quantitative methods’ tools and theories. Quantitative research methods include many particular techniques and in general could be described as methods, which works with numbers and applies statistical analysis by using various mathematical operations with formulas and computer software. The usage of surveys and various types of databases are examples of quantitative methods. Scientists conduct surveys either in person, or through telephones, mail or internet to collect data concerning people’s opinion and attitudes about particular events in politics and international relations (Box-Steffensmeier, 2008, p. 9-10). Then, gathered information could be analyzed through the coding of data into numbers and application of tools of statistical analysis on them. Surveys allowed scientists to form databases from the collected data that made it possible to share databases with other scientists, especially with the emergence of internet, test...

Biomedical Scientists

...Biomedical scientists’ perception of the social sciences in health research* Mathieu Albert a,*, Suzanne Laberge b, Brian D. Hodges a, Glenn Regehr a, Lorelei Lingard a a b University of Toronto Toronto, Ontario, Canada Universite de Montreal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada ´ ´ ´ Available online 11 March 2008 Abstract The growing interest in interdisciplinary research within the Canadian health sciences sector has been manifested by initiatives aimed at increasing the involvement of the social sciences in this sector. Drawing on Bourdieu’s concept of field and Knorr-Cetina’s concept of epistemic culture, this study explores the extent to which it is possible for the social sciences to integrate into, and thrive in, a field in which the experimental paradigm occupies a hegemonic position. Thirty-one semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore biomedical scientists’ receptiveness toward the social sciences in general and to qualitative research in particular. We found that these respondents exhibited a predominantly negative posture toward the social sciences; however, we also found considerable variation in their judgments and explanations. Eight biomedical scientists tended to be receptive to the social sciences, 7 ambivalent, and 16 unreceptive. The main rationale expressed by receptive respondents is that the legitimacy of a method depends on its capacity to adequately respond to a research question and not on its conformity to the experimental canon....

Exploring Different Data Collection Methods

...people to understand the processes with which they work. Data can also be collected for the purpose of process control. Numerous manufacturing processes use feedback data to adjust an input, such as temperature, in order to keep the output at the desired level. Feedback data from quality control activities can be used to make adjustments that result in more products meeting their requirements (Burrill, Ledolter, p.381). Data can also be used to improve processes with the intent of increasing productivity. ‘Data is nothing, unless interpreted and turned into useful information.’ Data are usually collected through qualitative and quantitative methods (Hawe, Degeling, Hall, 1990). The purpose of this paper is to explore the variety of methods of data collection used in both qualitative and quantitative research. More specifically, to discuss the process of identifying research questions and selecting appropriate methodologies, understanding the difference between...
