Remeber the Titans

...‘Remember the Titans’ Leadership in Organizations 12th December of 2013 Miguel Nogueira Rodrigues 150110034 Remember the Titans is a film that tells the story about a period of history in the United States, when the differences between black and white people were much assumed. The black people wanted to feel respected and not discriminated by the whites, and because of that they wanted the same rights as the others. In this story, for the first time, all people could attend the same high school, and this change created many problems between students and their families. The Titans were a football team, but they were always losing the games, and win the championship was unreachable for them. So, the school board decide to get a new team coach, with the capabilities to turn the results around, and make them a team of winners. The problem was that when they discover that the new coach, Herman Boone, was black. From that day, he had to win the respect of the players that were both black and white, and get a new environment, to make them a united team, capable of overcome the differences and difficulties between the players. And to achieve that Coach Boone ask the previous coach, Coach Yoast, to help him doing that. In this film, is very well presented the example of a leader, and how the cultural differences shape the beliefs, attitudes, opinions, preferences and behaviours of those who lead and of the ones that made the choice to follow the coach. In this case despite...

What Makes a Team Click

...Makes a Team Click? SOC110 May 14, 2014 What Makes a Team Click? * Teams assemble with the interest of obtaining a particular goal. Whatever that goal may be, there are motives as to why we choose to join a team. To stay in a team and also choose to leave the team. As Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs suggest, there are motivating factors that move members to work together in groups, and they categorize into two groups. Satisfiers' and Motivators. The authors, Engelberg & Wynn, state that satisfiers' have the most basic needs like physiological and safety needs. Motivators are higher-level needs such as self- actualization, belongingness, and esteem needs (2011). For members with belongingness needs, a group provides a sense of belonging, by providing friendship opportunities and members find that they identify with others. Groups can also satisfy members with esteem needs, these needs are met through success and member satisfaction. Working in groups gives these members a sense of worthiness and that their contribution matters. Therefore, member motivation is necessary to fuel group performance and achieve successful collaboration. On the other hand, sometimes motives can also have a negative effect on collaboration. When individual motives such as esteem, belongingness, and self-actualization needs are not met they eventually create affective conflict. Within our group, it seems that these motives aren’t existent. Being that were so new to becoming a team together...

Crm Conceptual Framework

...“Listening to customers must become everyone’s business. With most competitors moving ever faster, the race will go to those who listen and respond more intently”. -Tom Peters, Thriving on Chaos Chapter 1: Conceptual Framework for CRM What is Customer Relationship management? Before we begin to examine the conceptual foundations of CRM, it will be useful to define what is CRM. A narrow perspective of customer relationship management is creating a team relationship among sales, marketing, and customer support activities within an organization. Another narrow, yet relevant, viewpoint is to consider CRM only as customer retention in which a variety of after marketing tactics is used for customer bonding or staying in touch after the sale is made. Shani and Chalasani define relationship marketing as “an integrated effort to identify, maintain, and build up a network with individual consumers and to continuously strengthen the network for mutual benefit of both sides, through interactive, individualized and value-added contacts over a period of time”. The core theme of all CRM and relationship marketing perspectives is its focus on co-operative and collaborative relationships between the firm and its customers, and/or other marketing actors. CRM is based on the premise that, by having a better understanding of the customers’ needs and desires we can keep them longer and sell more to them. Growth Strategies International...

Race and Ethnicity

...l Race and Juvenile Delinquency by Dubien Tshimanga SOCIOLOGY & ANTHROPOLOGY CAPSTONE PRINCIPIA COLLEGE APRIL 2015 ABSTRACT Throughout history, the struggle of minorities has been seen in many facets of life such as in history, literature, music and film: Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi fought for the right of unrepresented minorities. Books such as Too Kill a Mocking Bird spoke to the prejudices of a community. Movies such as Roots illustrated the hardship of the slaves. From the Roman’s persecution of Christians to today’s rap song lyrics about economic disparities the plight of the minority has been fought for millennium. This research examines the struggle of minorities within the juvenile justice system and the differential rates of adjudication and length of sentencing between the white majority and the black minority juvenile offenders. During the course of this research, additional insights were gained from an internship at a youth correctional center as well as drawing on my own personal experience as a refugee from Gabon. The findings of my research demonstrate that minority offenders do receive harsher sentences than the whites, and that there are several factors contributing to higher rates of juvenile delinquency among African Americans; primarily education and community. To consider the struggle of minorities is important because it creates awareness that the maltreatment of a minority group by the dominant majority often...

Kingdom Hearts Aside

...connections and revelations. It's confusing for long-time fans and near impenetrable for newcomers. In mere weeks, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will be releasing on the 3DS and promises, according to Nomura, to lead directly into Kingdom Hearts 3. It's with that in mind that I have decided to unravel the plot of the entire series for those who may have missed the opportunity to play some of the spin-offs and those who just want a refresher before diving into the new game. I have also attempted to make this as inviting as I can for newcomers to the series who decide that they want to start with Dream Drop Distance. Be warned though that this timeline will spoil everything in the series so if you want to go in fresh, then it's probably a good idea to refer to this timeline later. With that introduction out of the way, let's begin… ------------------------------------------------- KINGDOM HEARTS: BIRTH BY SLEEP The story begins with a young boy named Ventus and an old man named Xehanort arriving on the Destiny Islands one night. Ventus is seemingly unconscious, draped in a white cloth, and Xehanort plans to leave him near a tree on the beach. His plan to turn the boy to darkness has failed and left his heart fractured, which is the cause of his deep slumber. But, deep within the remains of his heart, Ventus hears the voice of another who was called to him by his light. The voice...

Her son was among the first students enrolled in what would later be called the Vanguard program, which stoked creativity and independence in its students and nurtured expansive, outside-the-box thinking. ...FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING BIOGRAPHIES OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND ALBERT EINSTEIN, THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVE BIOGRAPHY OF STEVE JOBS. Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing offlimits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and...
