...Statement of the Problem Teacher attrition has been a critical concern for the field of education for many years. An even more significant trend has been the teacher attrition rate of special educators. Over the years it has been a growing concern about the number of teachers who leave the classrooms in the high school that I work and in the school district in general. It is on this premise that I seek to find out the relationships of teacher retention and attrition in a collaborative classroom in five schools in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Good – but no mention of special education? Introduction According to Boe, Bobbit and Cook (1993), teacher attrition is another term used for teacher turnover, which are changes in teacher status from year to year. Teacher turnover may include teachers leaving the profession, or teachers who change schools. Over the years, there have been issues concerning attrition and retention of teachers in the Chatham County district. Students with disabilities are at a disadvantage with the type of education they receive from teachers who are not qualified special education teachers, as well as general education teachers who are not coached or prepared to meet the individual needs of special education students. In the Savannah Chatham County School District, thousands of teachers have left the teaching profession for varying reasons. Some teachers leave because they have done many years of teaching and have reached the age...

...DGL INTERNATIONAL I. Summary: DGL International brought in John Terrill to manage its Technical Services Division. This division, with 20 engineers, was the highest paid, best-educated, and least-productive division. His job is to turn this division into a productive one. He called a meeting and asked the engineers what was the problem. He found out that the employees were not satisfied with the jobs assigned to them. They spent almost half of their time writing asinine reports in triplicate for top managers and no one would read them. He promised the engineers that he will take the top managers off their backs. He ordered that all reports be turned to his office daily rather than mailed to the headquarters. By month’s end, the stack was nearly three feet high. Finally, a secretary from finance asked for the monthly travel and expense report. The next morning Terrill entered the president’s office and placed the stack of reports on his desk. The president and other senior executives looked bewildered. He told the top management that those reports were the reason why his department lacks productivity. He suggested that engineers’ time must be used in a more productive manner and one brief monthly report will satisfy the needs of other departments. II. Statement of the Problem The Technical Services Division of DGL International was the highest paid, best-educated, but it was the least-productive division...

...RESEARCH CRITIQUE Research Critique of Adherence to Walking or Stretching, and Risk of Preeclampsia in Sedentary Pregnant Women Ana H. Corona Western University of Health Sciences CGN 5306: Biostatistics and Epidemiology August 1, 2009 Research Critique of “Adherence to Walking or Stretching, and Risk of Preeclampsia in Sedentary Pregnant Women” Introduction This paper is to critique a study of adherence to walking or stretching during pregnancy in high risk women who were sedentary and had previously experienced preeclampsia. The introduction of this article does give a sense of the importance of the problem area. This four-year study investigates the effects of walking or stretching on the incidence of preeclampsia and reports on adherence to the intervention and on the secondary outcomes of changes in resting heart rate (HR), resting blood pressure and weight gain. Statement of the Problem The purpose of the study was to compare a walking exercise to a stretching exercise program during pregnancy in high-risk women who were sedentary and had previous history of preeclampsia. The problem was clearly stated and was a feasible researchable problem. The problem had significance for nursing and for the medical profession and might improve practice and education. While the researcher does a good job of stating why the problem is important, it could have been helpful for him to list numbers of people who are affected by preeclampsia and complications of the disease...

...ARTICLE IN PRESS Int. J. Human-Computer Studies 63 (2005) 436–451 www.elsevier.com/locate/ijhcs Developing creativity, motivation, and self-actualization with learning systems Winslow Burlesonà MIT Media Lab, 20 Ames St. Cambridge, MA 02139, USA Available online 10 May 2005 Abstract Developing learning experiences that facilitate self-actualization and creativity is among the most important goals of our society in preparation for the future. To facilitate deep understanding of a new concept, to facilitate learning, learners must have the opportunity to develop multiple and flexible perspectives. The process of becoming an expert involves failure, as well as the ability to understand failure and the motivation to move onward. Meta-cognitive awareness and personal strategies can play a role in developing an individual’s ability to persevere through failure, and combat other diluting influences. Awareness and reflective technologies can be instrumental in developing a meta-cognitive ability to make conscious and unconscious decisions about engagement that will ultimately enhance learning, expertise, creativity, and self-actualization. This paper will review diverse perspectives from psychology, engineering, education, and computer science to present opportunities to enhance creativity, motivation, and self-actualization in learning systems. r 2005 Published by Elsevier Ltd. ...XYZ Research Company XYZ Research Company XYZ Research Company was incorporated in 2010 and centers on developing new technology for interplanetary exploration. The company has many patents and has historically expensed all the costs associated with obtaining their patents. The owners of XYZ Research Company are unsure whether patent costs that have been expensed can be capitalized and whether or not periodic impairment testing is required. I have been hired as a consultant to research the proper accounting standards currently in place for the methods or recording patents, the useful life of patents amortization of patents, capitalization limits of patents and the impairment testing required. My immediate assumptions would be that no costs have been capitalized and no impairment testing has been done since I have been hired to research the proper accounting standards. A patent is the exclusive right granted by a government to the inventor to manufacture, use, or sell an invention for a certain number of years. A patent is considered an intangible asset, because a patent does not have physical substance and provides no long-term value to the owning entity. There are three different types of patents, a utility patent, a design patent and a plant patent. A U.S. patent lasts for 20 years. Patent expenses are any costs associated with obtaining the patent, which include application, registration, documentation and other legal fees as necessary. XYZ Research Company...

...Stages of the Research Process ES/351 July 21, 2015 Stages of the Research Process The first stage in the research process is critical in capturing information data and evidence that will solidify a business research. The two articles chosen for this paper from the University library are bullying and no child left behind act in regards to American schools. The paper will state the purpose of the research and determine the research questions and hypotheses for each article. Hypothesis occurs when a proposition is formulated for empirical testing, and a research question is the hypothesis that best states the objective of the research (Cooper & Schindler, 2014). “A declarative statement about the relationship between two or more variables, a hypothesis is of a tentative and conjectural nature” (Cooper & Schindler, 2014, pg58). In addition, the paper will identify the independent and dependent variables being manipulated or measured for each article. “The general research process contains three major stages, exploration of the situation, the collection of data, and analysis and interpretation of results” (Cooper & Schindler, 2014, pg139). The critical first stage is to clarify the research question. A better way to approach the research process is to state the basic dilemma, which will prompt the research to develop other questions by progressively breaking down the original question into more specific ones (Cooper &...

...Joshua McDonald Professor Lesnick English 101 7/28/14 Bye TV In society today, many people’s eyes are glued to the television. It is constantly within the reach of the general public. Throughout the world, television has not only become an important part of our everyday lives, but especially the media that is apart of it. Unfortunately, television isn’t always used in a way by which people receive the best possible benefits. Television does allow for cultural experiences amongst each other to be shared, and it features news and current events which allow for people to be more aware of other cultures. However, although there are benefits to watching television in moderation, people shouldn’t watch too much television because it destroys social interaction and negatively impacts mental development. Leiusure time is defined as time that is spent away from work, chores, business, or education. People over the age of two today often spend, “more than 34 hours a week watching live television plus another three to six hours watching taped programs” (Hinckley). With 168 hours being in a week, people are spending more than 20% of their time watching television. Rather then spending time watching a screen, that time should be spent socially interacting with people within our communities. Often times, we read about crimes happening in our neighborhoods and cities when we had no clue what was going on. A prime example of this is my fifteen year old brother who spends...
