The results of this Quantitative study “Timing of Adiposity Rebound: A Step Toward Preventing Obesity” and through the use of statistics and comparison this correlational study has helped the health care profession with ways to identify the children who are at high risk for developing a high AR which in contrast will develop into obesity in later years. A correlational study is used to look for relationships between different variables. There are three possible results in a correlational study: a positive correlation, a negative correlation, and no correlation at all. The correlation coefficient is a measure of correlation strength and can range from -1.00 to +1.00. This study has a positive correlation. In summary to avoid a high BMI as well as a high AR teaching and practicing good eating habits and regular exercise can help prevent childhood obesity because the obese child will most likely become an overweight adult (Bloonpleng et al, 20120.
One of the quantitative articles of this team is “Patient Education on Heart Attack Response: Is Rehearsal the Critical Factor in Knowledge Retention?” This article discussed that one of the most important patient education is explaining the early recognition and prompt response to the signs and symptoms of an acute myocardial infarction. The method used was a community- based quasi experimental study with assignment (cluster randomized trial) comparing basic heart attack education (control group) to basic heart attack education with rehearsal (treatment group) The quasi-experimental research study involve implementing a treatment and examining the effects of this treatment using selected method of measurement (Burns et al, 2011). Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (Version 16.0 for windows). Equivalence of the two groups’ baseline characteristics was analyzed using the t-test for interval data and chi square tests for categorical data. Scores for knowledge were compared using separate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Comparisons of the knowledge scores of the two groups at 6 months were analyzed using independent samples t-test and cross-tabulation. This study supports the use of one-to-one teaching with rehearsal for knowledge acquisition needed by patients and families to improve the ability to recognize and respond to symptoms of a heart attack (Crumlish & Magel, 2011).
For the quantitative article Sleepiness, physical activity, and functional outcomes in veterans with type 2 diabetes, the research method used was non- experimental or descriptive, cross-sectional design. Cross-sectional studies are observational in nature and are known as descriptive research, not causal or relational. Researchers record the information that is present in a population, but they do not manipulate variables. This type of research can be used to describe characteristics that exist in a population, but not to determine cause-and-effect relationships between different variables. These methods are often used to make inferences about possible relationships or to gather preliminary data to support further research and experimentation. ("Science Daily", 2011).
