In order to be a leader in the world, you must first learn how to lead by example and always remain humble. Being a leader is not about having followers, it’s about being able to motivate and inspire others to work together to accomplish a common goal. Playing volleyball and being the President of the Rotary Club has enhanced my leadership ability in numerous ways. Jones High School established its first volleyball team, August of 2014, my junior year of high school. Volleyball camp started two weeks before school started and the majority of the girls that we in attendance had never played volleyball before. With previous experience, I was able the help the new girls in acquiring the basic skills such as, bumping and setting the

... The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world. What is the mission of the Rotary Leadership Institute? To strengthen Rotary clubs through quality leadership education. It is not an official program of Rotary International and is not under its control. The Institute seeks to have Rotary Clubs in member districts identify those Rotarians who seem to have the potential for future club leadership (not necessarily as club presidents) and, provide those so identified with a quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills. In fact all active Rotarians are encouraged to participate in the training. It is agreed throughout the Rotary world that the success or failure of a Rotary Club primarily depends on the quality of the club’s leadership. The RLI offers Rotary knowledge courses in three sessions which are designed to provide leadership skills while advancing Rotary knowledge and understanding. There are three parts. Part I - “THE ROTARIAN” – focuses on your introduction to the RLI experience. The emphasis is placed on providing an overview of Rotary programs. Part II - THE ROTARY CLUB - builds on Part I, here an analysis is done on each participants Rotary Club and its effectiveness. Part III - THE ROTARY JOURNEY – here we learn about opportunities available to us and our clubs through Rotary International...

All of the money made through selling these wonderful and hard laboured jewellery at these events is then used to keep the workshop open and running. There are two workshops at the Jacaranda compound - the brass workshop and the ceramic workshop. Currently, there are 30 mentally handicapped adults working in the workshop. They work the usual working hours, where they begin to work at 8:00 AM and close up for the day at 4:00 PM. They work on weekdays (from Monday - Friday) but usually, the workshop is closed during the weekends so they do not work on Saturdays and Sundays. Distracted Driving

...Jacilyn Bruns Research & Reporting 3/26/15 Johnson J. Burdette, vice president in charge of statistical analysis for the Travelers Home Assurance co. of Chicago, was a featured speaker for a Freeport Rotary Club luncheon held at the Barton Hotel today. Johnson’s speech was entitled, “How to Cope with the Traffic Toll,” emphasizing the risks of drunk driving and what can be done to reduce the numbers. Johnson began by stating that highway fatalities are the leading cause of accidental death, with grinding traffic accidents killing about 40,000 men, women and children every year. “Not a pleasant subject, but a pressing one when you consider that more people have been killed on our highways–many more–than have been slain by the enemy in all our wars,” Johnson said. Johnson noted that the number has slightly declined from 50,000 deaths per year, but 40,000 deaths is still a problem. He went on to share the story of a friend that was killed, leaving his family in a tight situation. “There are human dimensions behind the cold statistics you see in the newspapers,” Johnson said. “There is no single solution. In fact, it is absurd to talk of trying to eliminate all traffic deaths. It cannot be done. There are certain factors we cannot control…but there are some we can.” Johnson said that he doesn’t believe billboards are effective enough to make someone “turn down that last cocktail,” and that driver’s license examinations are dangerously simple. “My point is:...

Role of Teacher in Language Classroom

...Qualitative Approaches A qualitative "approach" is a general way of thinking about conducting qualitative research. It describes, either explicitly or implicitly, the purpose of the qualitative research, the role of the researcher(s), the stages of research, and the method of data analysis. here, four of the major qualitative approaches are introduced. Ethnography The ethnographic approach to qualitative research comes largely from the field of anthropology. The emphasis in ethnography is on studying an entire culture. Originally, the idea of a culture was tied to the notion of ethnicity and geographic location (e.g., the culture of the Trobriand Islands), but it has been broadened to include virtually any group or organization. That is, we can study the "culture" of a business or defined group (e.g., a Rotary club). Ethnography is an extremely broad area with a great variety of practitioners and methods. However, the most common ethnographic approach is participant observation as a part of field research. The ethnographer becomes immersed in the culture as an active participant and records extensive field notes. As in grounded theory, there is no preset limiting of what will be observed and no real ending point in an ethnographic study. Phenomenology Phenomenology is sometimes considered a philosophical perspective as well as an approach to qualitative methodology. It has a long history in several social research disciplines including psychology, sociology and social work...

Tourism Theory

...The Ethics and Attitudes towards Ecotourism in the Philippines - Mary Ann Chen Ng, MSc. Eubios Ethics Institute, Philippines Email: maryannchenng@yahoo.com The Philippines, a developing country in South East Asia, is faced with the challenges of an increasing population, poverty, inequality, and corruption. With more than a quarter of the Filipino population falling below the poverty threshold, the pressure for productivity and growth has led to practices that have resulted in environmental stress and degradation. In response, the Philippine government has adopted the rhetoric of sustainable development as defined by the 1987 World Commission on Environment and Development. Government policies on economic development have reflected this vision of sustainability and poverty reduction. A major part of the government's economic development plan is ecotourism. In preparation for 2003: Visit the Philippines Year, the Department of Tourism has been actively marketing the country as a safe tropical holiday destination (DOTa, 2002). The aggressive sales missions and advertising campaigns, along with the various activities in 2002 commemorating the International Year of Ecotourism, aim to increase visitor arrivals, and consequently bring in more foreign currency to the country. How much is actually at stake? In 2000 alone, the total annual revenue directly attributed from tourism amounted to about US$ 2.5 billion. There were 1.8 million...

A Typical Financial Advisor Business Plan

...Typical Business Plan for a Financial Advisor A.) Executive Summary: The role of the wealth manager is not to simply sell a financial product to a prospect. Instead, a wealth manager’s first concern is developing a comprehensive understanding of the client, a client-centric approach to providing financial solutions. Next the wealth manager must match the right solutions to the client’s needs and desires and ensure he or she receives an exceptional service experience. After that, product and service sales opportunities will naturally follow. Making the transition is clearly a trade-off between short-term results and long-term success. Financial security through goals-based wealth management. As a wealth manager with Merrill Lynch, the emphasis would be on marketing and looking for ways to help clients with a broad array of financial capabilities. The objective is to help clients achieve their goals and dreams, whether it’s living in luxury, providing charitable contributions and/or leaving a legacy for family and friends; consult and advise clients how to best save and structure their investments to reach their goals. 1.
