(MIP-3) Fisher also connects Nusrat’s connection with her family to the dream she had, after this dream Nusrat gained peace knowing that her loved ones were still somewhere in the universe.(SIP-A) Fisher uses Nusrat’s dream to draw us in as the readers and give us the message that you can connect with someone when they aren't really here. (STEWE-1) During her dream Nusrat finally was able to reconnect with her sister in a way even if it was in her head, “Nusrat’s heart is filled with happiness to see her again after so many years. Their fingertips touch lightly and Margaret smiles. Nusrat stretches out to hold on to her sister, but she floats away, out of sight”(231). Nusrat learned from Islam that her sister was somewhere in the universe. …show more content…
When finally seeing Margaret again even if it was in her dream, Nusrat gained peace because she realized Margaret would always be there with her at heart. Knowing this gave Nusrat faith and a better connection with her sister even if it was just through the universe. (STEWE-2) Nusrat finally had the chance to say her final goodbye to Faiz, being able to connect with him one last time really helped her move past the point she has been stuck on,“She knows she will have to let him go. [...] Nusrat cannot speak, but she smiles at Faiz and mouths the words ‘I love you’”(231). Though it was in her imagination, Nusrat was able to properly say goodbye now know that she realized he was never coming back. Connecting with Faiz one last time assured her that their relationship would be stronger than ever though he is not physically there with her. (SIP-B) The dream made Nusrat realize that her loved ones were really gone forever but they would always be with her at heart. (STEWE-1) Before Nusrat had the dream she had a feeling that Faiz was gone but she didn’t know for sure, “But this night the stars and planets send back to her nothing but cold, brilliant light and silence. …show more content…
Tonight, she thinks, they look like fire, rock and ice--elemental, impersonal. In that second she knows Faiz will not come back”(220-221). Every night Nusrat looks at the stars, thinking about Faiz. One day when the stars seemed more unwelcoming and silent she didn't feel how she usually did when she talked to Faiz through them. Nusrat realized that all of this distance that seemed to be coming from the stars were because Faiz was no longer alive. Until she could prove this she believed it which caused her to become more distant and lose connection with both the stars and Faiz. (STEWE-2) She learned to face this after she had her dream. “Their fingertips brush each other before Faiz follows Margaret to drift among the stars. When she awakens, Nusrat feels peace settling over the raw center of pain in her chest”(231). For years Nusrat never saw Margaret in her imagination and was only able to think of the memories they made together, she also never knew if Faiz was alive. This dream showed her that they were both gone. Though this is a sad moment, seeing them again helped her to realize that though they aren’t with her everyday they are still somewhere in the universe and will always be with her at heart.

Essay 1. Understanding the Management Role to Improve Management Performance

...of being achieved * Time-bound - Can get done within a time limit. (As cited in the ILM Booklet 1.) The two concepts of goals and objectives are separate but related. My interpretation of the relationship between goals and objectives is that goals without objectives can never be accomplished while objectives without goals will never get you to where you want to be. The Vision for the direction of the Comprehensive School is set out using a strategic approach in the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Although the terminology used within the plan does not use the terms ‘goals’ and ‘objectives’ the purpose is the same with strategic intentions ( or long term goals) broken down into themes. Each theme is divided into different action areas where very detailed specific short and longer term implementation strategies (SMART objectives) are designed to ensure the school achieves its strategic intentions. There are four strategic intentions within the 2013 - 2014 SIP designed to set out the main priorities for school improvement. These...

Hills Like White Elephants

...The Message behind “White Elephants” “Hills like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway represents a girl sacrificing the way she feels about white elephants, so she can have the guy “the American” can continue to love her as he did in the past. The girl “Jig” first introduces the white line of hills as white elephants. Throughout, the whole conversation the couple is drinking alcohol as they talk. The setting of the story and the couple’s conversation takes place at a train station in between Barcelona and Madrid overlooking the Ebro River. Consequently, the white elephant represents an idiom for something valuable of possession but it is not something one would desire. In this case, the white elephant denotes an abortion. The couple sat down and ordered drinks as the girl causally looked off in the sky, above the hills claiming that the hills looked like white elephants. “They were white in the sun and the country was brown and dry” (Hemingway 229), it means that the white hills were prominent against the brown contrast and the shape of elephants in the hills popped out in the sky. “But if I do it, then it will be nice again if I say things are like white elephants, and you’ll like it?” (Hemingway 231), by this comment, the girl hopes to save her relationship with him by following through with the abortion. She feels that, that is what the guy wants from her and by asking him if she follows through with the process, will everything will be back to normal. The girl questioning...

The "Blank"

...Analysis of Corey Campbell, “Pool”, a short story, 2009 The short story, Pool, is written in 2009 by the author, Corey Campbell. We follow our main character, Darla, who is in a relationship with a man by the name Jon. The story plays out at the house of Trevor and Mandy, who are married. Darla is a very humble woman. There are various scenarios to prove this. (Line 73) ”Sorry(...)I did not mean to disturb you”, (line 123) ”It’s OK, I can sit out”. There are many more. The night before, the condom split. The next morning they go out to get a morning-after pill (line 16, ”Their condom split the night before, so they'd spend the morning going to two different Rite Aids to get the morning-after pill”.) This shows that Darla does not wish to have a child. When Darla is offered a sip from Jon's beer, she refuses. The pill advices that she does not drink any alcohol. The package states the success rate is 99%, yet Darla does not take any risks. She tries to make fun of herself as a mother (line 80,”I'd be horrible at it. I would probably start drinking. I know I would (...) Just kidding”) because the idea of her becoming a mother is, maybe, not something she wants to consider. She seems to fear having a child. Having a child means that one must open up to the real world. One must develop as a human being. One must no longer be narrow-minded; in the sense that one cannot see beyond their own benefits in any given situation. (Line 158) ”It all changes with a kid”. Darla is...

The Master, Freuds Id, Ego and Superego

...Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film The Master, set in 1950, examines dueling forces of the human psyche. The three main characters can be viewed metaphorically in terms of Freud’s id, ego and super ego. Anderson’s new film is a beautiful character study examining the inner workings of human psychology. Freddy Quell is an immature, alcoholic, hypersexual, violent WWII veteran, possesses no self-control, impulsively chasing his cravings His behavior exactly fits of Freud’s id. His primitive qualities resound further in his hunched posture, which resembles an earlier stage of Human evolution. Lancaster Dodd, a writer, scientist and philosopher and founder and self appointed ‘Master’ of The Cause, a cult seeking to raise humans to a state of perfection. Lancaster facilitates this progression through a process of hypnosis which allows individuals to access distant memories of past lives stretching back trillions of years through time holes, providing a deeper, purer sense of self; Lancaster even claims these applications can cure certain types of leukemia. After losing a series of jobs and on the run from a group of farmers, Freddy, in a drunken stupor stumbles unnoticed aboard a docked ship, occupied by Lancaster Dodd and his entourage, just prior to casting off for sea. Freddy awakes unaware of his surroundings and unable to recall the events of the previous night. Hung over, he meets with Lancaster, who is more curious than upset about Freddy’s aggressive, disruptive, uninvited...

Good People David

...inner and outer conflicts may arise when a child in unexpectedly conceived. In Ernest Hemingway’s ambiguously ending short story, “Hills Like White Elephants”, a man, referred to as “the American”, and a girl, Jig, sip on drinks at a train station as they talk of whether or not to have an abortion. David Foster Wallace’s short story, “Good People”, portrays a story line similar to Hemingway’s and follows the tumultuous thoughts of nineteen-year-old Lane Dean Jr. as he sits on a bench in quiet with his, equally submersed in thought, pregnant girlfriend Sheri. Writer Nilofer Hashmi asserts in her analytical essay, “’Hills Like White Elephants’: The Jilting of Jig,” that in Ernest Hemingway’s story the girl will go through with the abortion, but the American leaving her. Evidence exists, however, to prove that Jig will in fact have the abortion and the American will stay. Similarly, but entirely contrasting to Hashmi’s assertion, “Good People” insinuates that Lane will ultimately stay with Sheri should she fulfill his predictions and tell him she will raise the baby. Aspects such as whether or not love exists between the couples, the difference between Foster Wallace’s and Hemingway’s depiction and portrayal of the males and females, and symbolism disprove Hashmi’s analysis in favor of the previously proposed scenarios.        Whether or not the relationship contains any sort of love separates Hemingway and Foster Wallace’s short stories. Love does not exist between the American and...

...PHILIPPINE THEATER Theater in the Philippines is as varied as the cultural traditions and the historical influences that shaped it through the centuries.
