...Imagery, PEETLEP Model and Technology Michael S. Harmon Capella University Abstract The use of imagery in the realm of sport psychology is widely accepted and used to enhance skill, reduce anxiety, increase decision making skills, etc. Although several models are available to construct imagery scripts, the PEETLEP model offers seven concepts that should improve the delivery system over more traditional oriented approaches. Integrate that model with advances in technology (video capture, podcasts, virtual reality), the sport psychologist has the opportunity to help an athlete enhance their performance like no other time in history. Imagery conducted for sport performance is referred to as sport imagery, but can be used interchangeably with the broader term mental imagery (Taylor and Wilson, 2005). Several other terms including mental practice, mental rehearsal, and visualization have also been used to refer to various components of mental imagery in sport (Morris, Spittle, & Watt, 2005; Taylor and Wilson, 2005; Weinburg & Gould, 2007). Specifically, sport imagery can be defined as using all senses to re-create or create a sport experience in the mind with the goal of enhancing sport performance during training and competition (Morris, Spittle, & Watt, 2005; Vealey & Greenleaf, 2001; Weinberg & Gould, 2007). Over 25 years ago Stogdill’s Handbook of Leadership [1] exposed a problem for understanding leadership that has, if anything, grown worse over the years: there are almost as many definitions of leadership as there are people attempting to define it. Over ten years ago Yukl’s [2] wide ranging review of the literature on leadership effectiveness came to an equally perplexing conclusion: ‘most of the theories are beset with conceptual weaknesses and lack strong empirical support. Several thousand empirical studies have been conducted but most of the results are contradictory and inconclusive.’ [3] Against this background of confusion and uncertainty within the literature on leadership, the following review establishes the two most common and traditional approaches (trait and contingency theories) before engaging in the more contemporary debates that support the general perspectives taken in the main report. ISABELLE VAN DEN TOL 2509606 Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Through interviews and literary findings, a qualitative case study has been done to enrich the theory about the factors enhancing and barriers intervening meaningful work. For this case study two interviews were conducted. Together with the literary findings several findings became apparent. There were three sources found that enhance the meaning of work, being: the self, the others and the work context. There were also several constraints found that are intervening the meaning of work. These constraints were the individualism within the jobs, the communication within the management team and the organizational pressure of being as efficient and effective as possible. These constraints together formed the barriers, which has a negative effect on the meaning of work. These findings were then discussed and concluded.
